I mean, I know we can't make an "official declaration" of this, but isn't it 99.9999% likely that it won't make as much as 2?
unfortunately it is true... it's Shrek... and that's the damn power of the little kids... each little kid wants to go brings his entire family and more

It's true that it'll make more? With Pirates coming out the following week?

all I know is that it's going to be one hell of a month...!! Spidey-3, Shrek 3, and Pirates 3 coming out... man, people better save their pennies because you'll be shelling out hundreds of dollars at the movies during May! :P

I think some of you are discounting children. With Spiderman, Shrek and Pirates being so close with each other, there may not be as much repeat business to go around. Sure, Shrek will have the younger audience but adolescents will be drawn to Spiderman and Pirates.

Lastly, kids aren't stupid either, if there's a different feel between Shrek 2 and 3, kids will notice it.

I can't wait!

Which is, again, why I think Spidey will win. I feel like a broken record repeating this whole "two week cushion" thing. :D

What comes out the next week after Pirates?

I honestly believe that sm3 is going to take the crown next summer for various reasons.
1. Its spider-man
2. Their marketing campaigns are no joke, they go all out
3. The villains (venom in particular)
4. The overall premise of the story seems exciting
spidey's going to hog the summer glory.

Shrek 3, you all are denying the obvious. Kids or anybody else won't give a damn about the director or screenwriter change they just want the characters and the situations, which will all be there.

Of course if the movie sucks it will lose it's audience soon after it's release, but then again, this too can happen to Spidey and POTC, but of course to you guys this possibility will only happen to the movie you want to fail, right?

people here also think BB2 will be the biggeast film of 08 ... dont waste your time HR.

Heh forgot where i was:O

Very true, but of course Shrek has the POTC Factor in its way this time around. Spidey finds himself in a similar position as his first film.

The 2 week breathing room may tip the scales in SM3's favour

Well, Spidey 3 has 2 weekends and more huge promotion as I see.

We are almost a year out from these movies, don't you think Shrek will have huge promotion too?

lol this will be a never ending battle where you'll all bicker back and forth until it is May 2007 and the movie actually gets released...! :p

Well, yes. Shrek 2 was ridiculously visable and I expect that to be the same for this one, as well.

However, the first half of his post was more valid.

If it has huge promotion, where is teaser-trailer?

they don't need one yet... everyone knows Shrek really really well... when the time is right (Christmas?) they'll throw one out and get everybody thinking about it so when in MAY it comes out, they'll go see it.

Actually, if this plot synopsis is an indicator, Shrek is going to give Pirates a flippin' handful:
When King Harold falls ill, it is up to Shrek to find a suitable heir or he will be forced to give up his beloved swamp for the throne. Recruiting Donkey and Puss, Shrek sets out to bring back the rightful heir to the throne, Fiona's rebellious cousin Artie. In Far, Far Away Fiona's jilted Prince Charming storms the city with an army of fairy tale villains to seize the throne. But they have a surprise because Fiona, together with her mother, Queen Lillian, has drafted her fellow fairy tale heroines to defend themselves. As Shrek, Donkey and Puss work on changing Artie from a royal pain into a future king, Fiona and her band of princesses must stop Prince Charming to ensure that there will be a kingdom left to insure.

Like I said earlier. 3 movies squashed together, not as much repeat business for all 3.

And like I said, kids aren't stupid. If Shrek 3 feels different than the Shrek 2 (for a variety of reasons, such as different director, different writers), kids will sense it and probably not enjoy it as much. To believe that kids will swallow anything you give them is silly.

Ugh. Justin Timberlake as King Arthur. That's going to be fiya yo.

It's a year before release . . stop and think about this for a second.

Where have I said that kids are stupid and will swallow anything that they throw at them? Granted if the movie sucks it will lose it's following weeks business, but this can happen to Sm3 and POTC3, my point is you cannot rest your opinion on this due to a change in director and screenwriter because it just doesn't matter to the marketing to a movie like Shrek.
