Box Office predictions thread-2007 Edition

Transformers will do good... but no way better than Spidey, POTC, Harry or Shrek - those movies have solid fanbases, the actors are very popular and their previous movies have made loads of money consistently.

I still think people are underestimating the power of Transformers, big robot movies are in short supply, show a bunch of them beating the crap out of each other, plus the name Spielberg, and it's rather large fan-base young and old, you have a box office Juggernaunt. It'so ne of those movies a 6 year old can go see or a 30 year old...

while this is true, there are 3 movie that are proven money makers that can do that in Harry Potter, Pirates, and Spiderman

I don't think many adults will go see that movie. While watching the trailer in theater I heard a few chuckles when the Transformerstitle appeared, and a few more when Michael Bay's name popped up.

I think Spider-Man 3 and Harry Potter will be rivals close followed by POTC 3 and Shrek 3.

it won't break Spiderman, POTC, Harry Potter, it could however top Sherk due to the fact that Sherk has the worst release date of any of monster blockbusters (1 1/2 weeks after Spiderman, 1 week before Pirates)

The kids will flock to see "The new Spider-Man movie". And don't forget the huge marketing tie-ins and campaigns. It's like the Batman series of the 80's/90's but in the 00's.

Since when did the hype represent the entire general audience? No, some chuckles don't automatically mean that the movie will tank, but it just gives me an indication that the movie won't be as big as most people here think it will. Also the movie being based on Hasbro toys could very well be enough of a reason for some of the adults not to watch the movie. I think it will make 350mil tops.

Your right, The 4th spot is really up in the air between Transformers, Shrek 3 and Fantastic Four 2.

Domestically, Pirates or Spidey 3, but WW, it's really though between Order of the Phoenix, Pirates 3, and Spidey 3 with OFTP with the slight edge.

Either way, some movies (albeit smaller films) will be f***ed sideways next summer.
