Based on their previous performances, I´d say domestically Shrek 3, then POTC3, than SM3, than HP5. Worldwide, SM3 comes fourth after HP5. But who knows, there´s always a level of umpredictability at the BO. SM3 so far looks to me like the strongest of the bunch, but then again I found the second much stronger than Shrek2, so what do I know...

Right now i'd say it's hard to call which looks the strongest of the bunch as SM3 has had way more footage shown, nothing has been seen of POTC3 and Potter has only had one very short teaser just like Shrek,SM3 has had a teaser and a full trailer as well as that special behind the scenes thing and the comic con footage

Hmm, I say a toss up between SP3 and POTC3, but I would hope for SP3. :cwink:

When you consider WW though, yeah probably HP or POTC3.

I mean, I have NEVER seen a line-up like that in all my life, in a single year.

Shrek's earning potential is really overlooked around here, as it throttled Spider-Man 2 back in 2004, and even beat POTC2 almost 20 million, 44 million if you could inflation!

I'd say POTC. If Potter wins anything I'll kill myself, because Harry Potter sucks.

I dont care which makes more money, I just want them all to be good.

These CGI animations are always a bit underestimated on the boards cuz the audience here is mostly teen and adult males, and they forgot how frikking huge these movies are with kids. Granted, back in 2004 nobody thought Shrek 2 was going to make the mountain of dough it did - neither did it deserve it, if you ask me - and well, in 2002 nobody thought the first Spider-Man was going to be as huge as it was...

I don't think SM3 has a chance at all worldwide. 3/4 of the Potter movies out-performed the original SM, which was already more successful than the sequel. Even Prison of Azkaban did better than SM2 and it made the least of the Potter films (likely due to it's summer release).

Spidey and Pirates will be the main films competing to gross the most money imo.

Looks its pretty clear... SPIDEY 3 or PIRATES 3 will fight for the top place and its unsure who will take the top place... my guess is SPIDEY 3... 'cause more people are hyped about SPIDEY 3 than PIRATES 3... Pirates is turning out to be like the Matrix Trilogy... while Spidey is acting LOTR... [not epicness or grandness but movie qualitywise and audience grabbingwise]
HARRY POTTER will definitely be 3rd place.

NOW SHREK 3... that is something people are not expecting to be a great hit but remember... SHREK's strikes are deadly... he beat Spidey 2.
So never underestimate the Jolly green Giant.
For all we know... he could beat POTC and Spidey 3 both.
BUT SPIDEY has just too strong of a fan and audience base to be taken down too low.
SPIDEY 2... against all heavy competetion and odds earned only 3 mil less than SPIDEY which was an epic hit... so do the math how popular it is.
SPIDEY 1... beat Star Wars Episode 2.
Sooo let's just wait and see... next year will be fun. :)

Sm2 made 30 million less than Sm1, not 3, which could be a sure sign of waning popularity. Shrek 2 on the other hand beat Sm1 by almost 40 million, and sm2 by almost 70 million, and beat it's predecessor by 175 million!

You are right, most of us here are hoping that Shrek 2 was an anomaly and 3 will be a lot less popular given that a lot of us don't care much for it but come the end of May it will probably have crushed all fanboys hopes from both the Spidey and POTC camps, just as well i'm a TF/Die Hard 4 guy:woot:

At least you admit it! :D

That could have double meaning,am i admitting the power of Shrek or that i am looking forward to the TF movie, both are cardinal sins here:wow::woot:

Your sin is letting logic rule your decisions . . about the Shrek thing . . about the Transformers thing . . FECK YEAH, can't wait for it either :D

Guys, don't underestimate the Steve Carrell movie, Evan Almighty. Steve can carry a movie. Low Budget comedy + Steve Carrell (the next Jim Carrey) = High Profit. Although it is another ****ty sequel, however it is a different sequel. Different character arc, different MAIN actor. I predict good things.

Look for the Hannibal movie to fail in box office. Hannibal has a big name, but without Anthony Hopkins, not even a cameo, and made by foreign film makers, will I think lose in the box office. American general public won't go for it.

I think Transformers will be HUGE. It's like Idepedence Day minus Will Smith. It is up against Die Hard 4. I think Die Hard 4 will look just like Rocky 6. People are tired of it and not thrilled with Die Hard 4. Rocky 6 had a little success because it was so easy to top Rocky 5. Die Hard 4 is going to have to pull out MAJOR stops to beat out Die Hard 3, which by some is considered better than the original. I don't think people are that hyped up about Die Hard 4. Bruce Willis is in another action movie with big explosions, just except his name is John McClaine. I see this one doing OK business, it will def make it's money back, but just like Rocky 6 it won't beat a Spider-Man 3 or a Harry Potter 5.

Harry Potter 5 and Spider-Man 3 to me are the obvious winners of the year. I think Shrek 3 might be predicted by some to take the number one movie of the year, but I think this Shrek won't do as hot as the first two. The CGI kids movies that connects with adults are GREAT business, but I think Shrek 3 won't have the same impact as the first two. To get a sequel to be a big hit is hard these days due to lack of imagination on the film makers part, but getting a third is really really difficult. Only Spider-Man, Star Wars, LOTR, and Harry Potter can have that kind of third sequel success.

Fantastic Four should do as well as the first one. I think it now has a rep of being a kids movie, so a lot of adults will probably remember the first one and pass. Surfer is a great add to film and comic geeks, but that can only go so far in terms of profit.

I think Ocean's Thirteen will not be that big. The second one was such a horrible film, people will not even give this film a chance. I think the movie itself will get good reviews because they will learn from their mistakes on the second film, but Andy Garcia teaming up with Daniel Ocean??? Eeeek. No thanks.

Ghost Rider will do as well as Dare Devil. Not a lot of mainstream casual movie goer knows who the **** Ghost Rider even is. He is not the biggest comic book character.

Zodiac will do eeeeh, probably not that great. The movie looks too dark for most, the plot looks confusing. Not a whole lot of BIG star power to carry the movie by their names. Jake is big, but lets face it, they advertised Jarhead on Jake AND Jaime Foxx.

300 will fail. No star power. It looks cool to film geeks like us, but even Sin City was beat in the box office by Monster in Law, Cheaper by Dozen 2, and Four Brothers. Us film geeks will love it, as we loved Sin City, but lets face it, there is not a whole lot of film geeks like us out there to carry a movie to top 10 of the year.

TNMT will do pretty decent. Voices are b-list celebs, CGI is cheaper than live action, appeals to kids and adults because adults remember them from the 80's. I think it will be pretty big this year.

Simpsons Movie, i'm a little stumped on. It is really hard to turn something from TV into a really really great film. I think Simpsons has a huge following, and will get a great opening weekend, but overall, SImpsons ran its course. Those who followed Simpsons from early years know that the show is getting stale these days. only around because Fox won't let it go. It's a huge money maker, but thats television cable. So in the movie theater? Eeeh. I predict decent opening, but a huge drop off.

Bourne Ultimatum will break 100 million. Good following, based off a book, Damon returns, easy prediciton that it will break 100 million.

Thats all I have and Im tired of typing, so its your turn. In a nut shell:

1. Harry Potter 5

2. Spider-Man 3

3. Shrek the Third

4. Transformers

5. Evan Almighty

who gives a **** if 300 does well with the BO, the cult following will be tremendous.

out of all of these transformers intrigues me the most. I ****ing hate shrek. I can't wait for the bourne ultimatum and spidey should be pretty good. I was never a fan of the fifth book but Potter is definitely fun so I will be watching.

also evan almighty doesn't need that much money to be a BO success. always look out for those comedies sometimes they explode when you don't think they will.

I'd also like to state that BO never makes a mvie good or bad, we should all know that by now.

300 will be very successful.

I think you completly forgot about POTC3... atleast I hope you did.

Zodiac will do well enough taken in context of how much it cost and the audience it is aimed at,it's not a summer blockbuster

Did you forget about POTC 3 ? and will you be updating with your predictions for the winter movies as well ?

I think Die Hard 4 is gonna be a really interesting one to watch at the BO this year and to see how the old timer does compared with Bourne

yeah, i forgot about POTC......I forgot about that one...I will rank it above Shrek 3.
