The only way we are going to get back to some sort of sane spidey-storytelling is by making a bold statement that we're not gonna buy and accept ANYTHING written by slott.

With extremely low sales numbers, we can get back to some sort of logical progression and maybe a new editor (JQ's not bad, just bad for Spidey it seems) that will get spidey back on the path to goodness.

Boycotting is the wrong word. I'm just fed up and a lame re-set didn't help matters at all. This is simply giving up, trying to erase crap and admitting that you painted yourself in to a corner. That's as weak as it gets and I really don't want to pay to see the consequences of this turn of events. I'm just dropping the Spider-Titles for a while. I'm sure I won't be missing much. If I do, I'm sure they'll just have Clarence the Angel wipe it out and they'll start over again in a few years anyway.

I've given up buying new ones at least. I work at a used book store, and we get the TPB's in all the time. I've resisted the urge to buy them, wanting to support the writers and artists by buying them new, but until I see a little integrity return to the books, no more!

I'll buy all my books used so I can still keep tabs on my favorite web-slinger without giving Marvel a penny.

I stopped a lot of Marvel reading after Civil War. However, Dan Slott is one of my favorite comic book writers and I was seriously considering picking Brand New Day up...
which , after this 'deal with the devil' bit by Peter and MJ, I won't be doing. I won't spend money buy comics about characters I can no longer respect. :(

To the guys sitting on the fence concerning cancelling, wanting to see what happens...

Look at it this way. If Brand New Day turns out good, get the TPBs. For now, I'd advice you that they have no intention of changing things unless they see a drop in sales. So cancel.

I thought alot about this last night. Long and hard. I had a massive argument against the whole destruction of the marriage the way its been done. I can't remember half of what I thought.

But basically, the way this story has been done, it's an insult. Plain and simple, it's an insult to the fans. It's insulting to our intelligence, and it's insulting to our loyalty. And not just our loyalty, but think about the sheer amount of time and money alot of us have infested into this character. Think about that.

Imagine that in the 3rd part of the LOTR trilogy, some evil wizard came along and said "see that guy that died in part one? not dead anymore. In fact, he never died in the first place. as far as the characters memories are concerned, he's always been around". It would feel like a giant cop out, right? The reader would think "what on earth was the point in reading everything that came before, if as far as the characters are concerned thats not the way it happened?". You'd feel... ripped off.

And now we're being told MJ and Pete were never married, when our books over the last 20 years tell us differently.

Let's go back to the Baby May situation. Some people don't really care that much, but at that period of time, I was just getting into comics. The clone saga was the first thing I read, and when the kidnapped baby twist came along, I awaited with full attention to see how that would end. Unaware of agendas at the time. And eventually, more and more, I was like "so when the hell are they bringing Baby May back?". Years pass. And eventually I'm reading interviews and such that the guys in charge don't want the baby. More years pass, and in MK Spidey its simply explained that the baby was stillborn, and this seems to be the accepted explanation...

But if you read the books at the time it happened... thats not what happened at all. The baby was switched. Baby May was kidnapped. So, rather than actually give guys like me a satisfying conclusion to that story, they wipe it over like it never happened. That was annoying enough to me as a reader.

This thing with the marriage... thats the Baby May situation times a million. It's a MASSIVE slap in the face.

And so, you have us the readers, many of us have infested years into this character. Some of us decades. All of us, massive amounts of money. The story that we're currently reading is broken. It wasn't broken when the characters were married... it became broken when the guys in charge decided to tell us that they were never married in the first place.

To further drive that point in, think of it from the point of view of a brand new reader. In fact, you could take me at 15 reading the clone saga for the first time, but instead its the recent stuff I'm reading. Unaware of any agendas on the company's part. I see that Mephisto is "wiping" the marriage away from memory. As far as I'd be concerned, I'd see it as a story. Something that will eventually have a conclusion. Sooner or later, Peter would see through the charade and fix it. FIX IT. Because from a story perspective, the history has been broken and needs FIXED.

But that isn't Joe Q's intention. OMD is the final say on the matter. Now and forever, the history is BROKEN.

wow, we actually agree Kainedamo, on all points.

Again, I want to hit home, even if you are a completist, wait at least 2 months to buy any "current issue" of S-M (I will continue to buy zero) and it will hopefully drive future sales numbers down.

Don't worry, the cover price should still be the price 2 months later and Mile high comics or ebay will have it, even if your local place doesn't :woot:

Buying the TPB (at any time) is exactly what Quesada wants you to do. So keep that in mind if you don't want to support him.

The owner of my comic shop was telling me that a lot of people are dropping Amazing Spider-Man, not because of the marriage ending or the deal with the devil, but because of the huge continuity rewipe that seems to be happening.

But my shop owner stated this is along the lines of the Clone Saga days when people dropped the book when it was announced that Ben Reilly was the one true Spider-Man.

So, who knows what is going to happen. I'm upset about the continuity rewipe much like anybody else because I love comic book continuity, especially Spider-Man's, and it does suck to the fullest degree. But Dan Slott, a continuity heavy writer, is taking the book over. I'm definitely interested to see where it goes.

If I'm not getting the Slott goodness I fully expect I'll throw my hat into the Spider-Man hater club. Until then I'm going to be a normal human being and complain about real life things that matter to the world. :woot:

Aye. If you're boycotting the monthlies then boycott the TPB's as well until Marvel gets the message.

Yeah, Marvel is really going to miss dan1, huh? :whatever:

Oh no, what will Marvel comics do if dan1 doesn't buy their books? Oh yeah, that's right...replace him with ten to twenty kids who are sheep and will buy anything with Spider-Man on it. Marvel wins. You guys sit on a message board *****ing the rest of your lives. Way to fight!

^LOL.

Well....that DID make me laugh out loud SIAT..! :woot:

On the other hand, people do have a right to express their frustrations (intelligently) and talk with their wallets...even dan1....:cwink:

The thing is, all of US, loving or hating OMD/BND...WE ARE the CUSTOMERS of Marvel, spidey or whatever. And Marvel does need to keep the CUSTOMERS happy. So, Joe, MArvel, execs, whomever...do need to keep the fans in mind, as does any business..and consider who is buying or not buying and why.

I was actually thinking about going back into Spider-Man,but i'm not now.I heard from readers at the time that the Clone Saga shook everyone's confidence in ASM.People read comics, they did not stop reading them.At a time when more people read comics than they do now, this was saying something.I wonder if it will happen again..the mass drop of sales with ASM or anything related.

If you feel the need to boycott then boycott.
The only way Marvel is going to get the point across is by watching their sales drop.

I'm going a step further in my boycott, I'm dropping all of 616 Marvel, with the one exception of Runaways, everything else, gone, cancelled, taken off my pull list as of now until Spidey is happily married again and who knows, by then I might not even care anymore to get back into them. Thanks Joe, you just saved me about $50-60/month!

Well...i'll be buying spidey stuff....just the stuff that makes some sort of sense.....which obviously isn't any of the new OMD/BND stuff.

There is lots of vontage stuff, tpb's mainly, i don't own yet.

It'll be fun to read, yet annoying, because i know i'll be thinking as i read...."yeppers...this didn't happen, or this doesn't happen this way now...or.....nope, no one remembers this anymore..."

I hope this mess gets fixed soon...i want spidey back. I don't want to have to read a "bible" to figure out how anything now works or can make sense or be justified in the marvel universe. And the excuse in such a major change that "it's magic, it doesn't need to be explained" ...doesn't cut it when the scope is so giant.

:csad:

I think I'll buy another copy of the wedding issue the day BND arrives. How much are those going for these days?

and the uber awesome "NEW"ability to stick to surfaces with his entire body... which he already had...

You know, that was the one part of that story that really bugged me. He has ALWAYS had that ability. They downplay it, but I have a few comics from just about every era where he can be seen sticking on his back, knees, or forearms.

The whole "only his fingers and toes stick" thing was a retcon in favor of the movie, as was the organic web shooter thing.

But hey, maybe as a result of this Joephisto retcon, we'll get the luck of having them retcon Spider-Man III, and making it so that the meteor-Venom never showed up, Peter never became an emo, was played by Topher Grace, and Mary Jane was always Bryce Howard instead of Kirsten Dunst.

...And Bruce Campbell's obnoxious doorman/announcer became Mysterio instead of a Frenchman.

...And Sandman was never involved in Ben's death in any way, shape, or form.

...And Green Goblin didn't die during his third battle with Spider-Man.

...And Green Goblin II didn't look like Rocket Racer/Night Thrasher.

Oh, forget it. The movies are so far off continuity that they'd have to get Mephisto to come in and wipe out the whole series for it to make sense again.

The comics, however, can be fixed. I'm hoping they WILL be fixed, because this Joe Queseda Mary Sue crap is annoying.

This new retcon will be retconned at some point for sure.

Thing is, they've been working far ahead supposedly, so we're gonna have to endure this mess for awhile until Joe maybe allows Slott to write an in-continuity spider-man so ALL the fans can rejoice and be united again.

I mean, Joe IS smart in some points, because if he didn't have Slott and some other "names" doing this mess, not only would practically everyone be ticked off with OMD/BND....they'd not be buying it either if it had no name recognition. He (joe) threw everything at this mess, gimmick wise....hot creative teams...and calling it all Amazing.

Joe is smart, he might be a caring human being, a loving son, he might be a saint, but for me he's only the guy who gave Eliza Dushku (sp?) some pizzas on Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and last but not least, the man who destroyed Spidey.

Hm..Not sure if this belongs here or if I should make a new thread..But if you want to save the Pete & MJ marriage, you can sign a petition here:

My god... the maturity levels on some of those signatures is pathetic...

How are you going to change somebody's mind about something while telling that person to eat a c^&$&ck is beyond me...

:whatever:

If you feel the need to boycott then boycott.
The only way Marvel is going to get the point across is by watching their sales drop.

Again, I don't consider this a boycott but I simply dropped Amazing Spider-Man from my "pull list" and won't be paying for any copies, period.

I made my usual trip to my local shop, took the BND Spider-Man off the top of my stack and informed my dealer to drop me from the title. (I probably should have dropped it sooner but I was in denial.) He said, "Oh, you too?" Apparently, many fans have done the same in my area. This guy owns two shops in southeast Michigan and has a pretty good gage on fan reaction. Long time readers are voting with their wallets and that usually always registers. Anyone else notice this trend? Any other stories of the message sinking in?

Good for you...

Is that really what they wrote back? Not surprised.

I'm investing in stamps. They can't have a computer open a letter...
