Lost and BSG both changed the way most people feel about serialized television. Before them most of the GA didn't like such character driven shows. Heroes could have been in the running as well if it had followed up that first season with something worthwhile. And what I'm saying here is basically FACT. It's a fact that Lost made a meteor size impact in the pop-culture consciousness, that's just how it is

Except most of the concepts/techniques that you're talking about Lost "influencing" (heavy serialization and character-driven stories) were done by other popular shows right before it (hello, The Sopranos, Buffy/Angel, Alias, 24). So while Lost had the most viewers and certainly made those things more mainstream, it's hardly "the most influential show of the last 15 years," considering some of the shows that paved the way for Lost, did those things first, and got a lot of audiences hooked on that type of storytelling were ALSO in the last 15 years.

I wouldn't include Buffy or Angel in that list, or Alias. I'm a massive Buffy/Angel fanboy but I couldn't even make it through season 2 of Alias. All I'm saying is that I can't think of any of those shows merriting a talk show to dedicate an entire episode once their finale aired like Lost. You can't deny the impact Lost had, it's just not possible for me and I can't understand how anybody else who probably didn't even like the show and is biased as **** when it comes to it can say that it didn't have a massive impact on popular culture. I mean sure! Platinum selling bands have named entire albums after Jack Bauer or Angelus. GTFOH!

The Sopranos would be the most influential show of the past 15 years. It was the first to strike rich in the cable drama gold rush. HBO, FX, TNT, USA, A&E, Showtime, AMC, Starz, etc. have all aimed for the success and/or quality with all of their shows that The Sopranos had. Even broadcast dramas have been influenced by it. If it didn't succeed would FX have gone for The Shield or the other pilot it was competing against? Would Breaking Bad or Mad Men be on the air? That changed the TV landscape more than any other show perhaps outside Survivor.

Well it did unusually well for premium cable, not even basic cable has done that well. Only now with The Walking Dead does a cable drama have a chance to get over 10 million viewers an episode. The Sopranos could attract 12-13 million.
