Breaking Bad - Part 3

I said it after the first episode alone Boardwalk Empire > The Sopranos could have ever dreamed of being. I love Sopranos man but that show was so convoluted and had such an insane habit of starting then dropping storylines with no explanation whatsoever. The Wire I watched for the first time less than a year ago and I gotta say while it was amazing I don't see why people act like it's the end all be all of great television. Most realistic for sure though. I watch A LOT of shows and the ones I've listed are IMHO the greatest shows on right now. Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad are just absolutely brilliant television. They all have this very tight storytelling that is unmatched in recent memory in my eyes

Justified is good but IMO doesn't match any shows I've listed. Homeland on Showtime is amazing.

I've tried to get into The Sopranos a number of times, but it never hooks me. It just seems kind of dull to me.

The great thing about the Sopranos is that it gives you a whole new impression of the mafia/mob.

The great thing about the Wire is that it so ****in realistic that it's almost sad to watch. I mean you get to see the "real" downfall of a society and just look at the world right now.

For me, Breaking Bad is the no. 1. I enjoyed The Wire and The Sopranos a lot and never thought that another TV show could amaze me like The Wire and The Sopranos did, but god i was wrong and I'm happy about it.

There are also new good shows like Justified, Boardwalk Empire or Boss, but these TV shows need to prove to us that they are worth it.

Jimmy's two season arc alone is proof enough for Boardwalk. Justified's second season was just beautiful. Game of Thrones???? Seriously, it's first season was proof enough that it's great too but good lord that second season! For me The Wire almost got hard to watch in some places because of how slow it was. The second season for me was hard to pay attention to just because of all the workers down at the docks, the change of pace messed me up at first. The 5th season to me though? ****ing horrible, I couldn't stand it. It just didn't interest me at all like the utter ****ing magnificence that was seasons 3 and 4. Sons of Anarchy has proven to me that it is one of the best shows on now as well. Seasons 2-4 have just been insanely good. It is basically a modern telling of Hamlet and it plays out just as epically as something like Game of Thrones just, instead of horses and swords it's Harleys and ak-47s

Not one single season of Justified, Sons of Anarchy or Boardwalk Empire can match Breaking Bad's four seasons...the closest tv show that could come close is Justified., some day. but i doubt.

I'm not saying Justified, Boardwalk Empire or SoA are bad, great shows, I watch all of them, but still they cant compete with Breaking Bad..

Right??? I gotta say it though, Breaking Bad surpasses Lost. That's something very hard for me to admit but I have to because it's true. Breaking Bad, Lost, BSG, Sons of Anarchy, Game of Thrones, Dexter etc those are my favorite hour long drama series so far. I've watched tons of shows and some more are on now just waiting to hit their stride like Boardwalk Empire and Homeland. I really wanna check out The Borgias, it looks ****ing amazing

I have to say it, I'm really disappointed in you, Eklypze. Mentioning Breaking Bad in a sentence with Lost, it is an insult to Vince G.

Oh whatever man! Lost was the single most influential tv show in the last 15 years! If you can't see Lost for the insane achievement it is I'm sorry but I will defend that show to the death. It may be my inner nerd but whatever, I love the sense of spirituality in it mainly. And the WTF factor. That's the main thing I look for in a show is those WTF moments and that's almost all Lost was at times lol

You don't think SOA, GoT or BE can compare to BB but Justified can!?!?!? Come on now bro!

I have never said that those shows are as good as BB I just said that along with BB they are what are in my opinion the best tv shows. Or at least y favorites. I watch a ****load of tv though man so my perspective is probably somewhat different than most people's. I seriously have a tv problem for real lol

No they cant, because they have not reached Breaking Bad atmosphere..and probably never will. The writing in Breaking Bad is amazing, there is no show that can come close to the writing of Breaking Bad. I have never watched a show with such amazing writers.

That doesnt mean that the above mentioned shows are not good, that's not the case, i watch most of them, but still can not beat Breaking Bad.

and in regards to Lost.
I really enjoyed the show in the beginning, but then the writers just lost it. Lost is the perfect example how writers can screw up a show with great potential.

I completely agree man, except the bit about Lost. It was worst in the beginning than the end. It got better as it went on, the tighter the story got and the smaller the cast became made it all the better in my eyes

Come on now, as fantastic as Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and even Breaking Bad are, the yardstick of their quality is how close they come to even slightly challenging the excellence of The Wire. Yeah, it's slow-boil, but you got so immersed in that world and cared so much about those characters. I'd actually lie awake at night, unable to sleep, FURIOUS at the cruel fate to befall a character through the unfairness of the system. For a TV show to have that kind of impact is rare. Season 3 of The Wire was the single greatest season of any TV show I had ever seen. Then Season 4 topped it. To this day, I don't think I'll ever watch anything on television that surpasses the poetry of The Wire season 4. Breaking Bad season 4 probably came closest.

Season 3 and 4 were ****ing amazing man. I didn't watch it week to week though. I watched the whole series within 2 weeks

Too bad all of us are wrong since we haven't mentioned the greatness that was Carnivale, if that show had gone on to it's 6th season and ended properly I think it would have went down in history as one of the best works of fiction ever

@ Keyser Soze

Season 3 and 4 were amazing, the best seasons of The Wire. The other season were good too, but not exactly what i expected from the show after all the good critics.

That's different with Breaking Bad..

Exactly. The Wire's problem was it's realism in my opinion. There is a fine balancing act going on when a show commits to such an astute sense of realism and Breaking Bad has pulled it off magnificently

Always nice when Saturday rolls around cuz its only one more day till a new episode

This.

Big fan of both Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire, but neither of them match up to The Wire. There's a Wire-shaped hole in my soul since I finished it.

The reason why I brought up Justified vs. Breaking Bad was because someone on another site said he thought Justified was in a league of its own. So I asked him why he thinks that and this is what he said.

Its hard to describe why i think its better. I have had a lot of trouble watching Breaking Bad. I kinda made myself watch it because i need to have at least 1 series that i watch daily. I dont like how Walt turned from that nerdy teacher to this stone-cold creepy killer. I never liked Walts character that much. I love Pinkman and Hank, who are tremendous. Justified has guys like Boyd, Quarles, Duffy, Dickie Bennett and that creepy killer who stole the watches was so freaking amazing. Justified just hit exactly my nerve, and thats why i cant wait for next season to start.
