Breaking Bad - Part 7

Even after he explicitly stated that he's doing it to build an empire because he's insanely bitter about what went down with Grey Matter?

You're acting like those motivations are mutually exclusive, especially in Walter's mind, I mean look at Sawyer's avatar. Look at it.

It started out as being about family, but the deeper motivation was always Walt's need to prove himself, to be in control, to crush other people, etc.

He crossed the line a long, long time ago.

Then why did he offer to surrender to the police? He seemed to consider all of them together a threat serious enough that he could not reasonably elude capture.

I don't know that he did offer that. At least not genuinely. It might have been like one of those fishing for a compliment things where someone will say something negative about themself like, "Gosh, I wish I wasn't so ugly." specifically so someone will chime in with a compliment.

"Well, I don't know Skyler. Maybe I'll just go to prison and ruin our whole family forever."

"No Walt, don't do that! Please!"

I'm not saying that's 100% the case, I'm just saying that there are other explanations besides taking whatever he says at face value.

Plus, I really don't think Walt would ever turn himself in unless he had exhausted all other possibilities, and even then I'm not so sure. Live free or die.

You're really reading the episode the way you want to at that point, more power to you, but you're creating thought processes that aren't being shown or even hinted at.

When Jesse burst into Saul's office I thought he was going to kill Saul or Huell, talk about tension. Can't wait for the next episode!

I literally had to stop watching because I thought he was going to shoot Saul in the face.

I truly thought Saul was a goner right then and there. I honestly don't think he'll make it.

I think if he was going to die it would have been right there, he just went into my ALIVE category come series finale.

Yeah, he's a broken down shell of a man. But that's where his head's at in the future. I'm talking at present. Of course he would regret whatever bad **** caused him to get that point.

Do you really think it's a stretch that Walt, a character who has been shown time and time again to be a master liar and manipulator, is perhaps lying to and/or manipulating Skyler?

Walt was barely conscious during that scene.

I can see why. It's just that these episodes have been so unpredictable I almost don't wanna speculate anymore haha.

sh** for a second I thought Huell was a gonner.

Walt was barely conscious during that scene.

And? He was in a total panic when he spoonfed all that BS to Jesse about Gus poisoning Brock. Didn't seem to stop him then. As for being barely conscious, was he? I thought he was just groggy from sleeping on the bathroom floor all night.

Except the Brock lie was clearly preplanned, he came up with that ahead of time and enacted it. He was never panicked, Jesse did exactly what he expected him to do.

Walt fainted after digging a huge hole in the desert in his weakened condition and slammed his head against the floor. Heck, when he came to he already thought Skyler had spilled the beans, there was nothing to damage control.

If he really didn't care about his family, why come home that night? He had the money, he knows Saul's guy, why not go disappear? Why come home when he thought that all that awaited him was jail time.

:hehe:

That Hello Kitty phone will be the key to the entire series, just you wait.

Any theories on what Todd and his family are up to? Do you think they're going to try to get Walt back?

I think Todd's going to be unable to perform and they are going to want Walt back.

Then I think [blackout] Lydia will find out about Hank and order a hit [/blackout].

Possibly. Doubtful they'll settle for 74% purity.

She does seem the type, doesn't she?

Walter beat Hank, but he just made enemies in Jesse and even Todd. But I also think Todd would want Walt back and Lydia is gonna have some sort of plan to go against Walter.

I'm not saying he doesn't care. I'm just saying he cares less about them than he shows others and tells himself that he does. If he really cared so deeply about them, if he was really this caring, loving father and husband... like 90% of the series never would have happened. He clearly has other, more important motives in his mind than just family.

If you're this deep into the series and you still honestly think that he's on some virtuous "just doin' it for muh family" quest or whatever, I don't know what to say. I really don't.

 I never said that.

I said:

Now Walter's a terrible person and ultimately anything that happens to him he deserves but the guy obviously cares about his family even if it gets muddled with his huge personal defects.

That's a huge difference.
