BvS BvS Rottentomatoes score - how important will it be, and what do you hope for? - Part 6

People are movie reviewers

People can change their opinions

Therefore, movie reviewers can change their opinions

Also, very few people in this industry watch the same movie twice in one week before it comes out. They don't have the time to. Watch the movie, review it, move along. I felt this one deserved the chance to redeem itself (just like MOS) so I went for a second viewing.

i see. why would you think any movie deserves a chance to redeem itself? then again, that's getting too off topic.

Most of the reviewers that talk about this movie say it's a clear prequel for Justice League and while they may not have appreciated BvS, they can't wait to see what's next for these characters in JL and beyond.

This movie seems like it's a 2 and a half hour trailer for the rest of DC Films slate. Sucks that this movie isn't being better received but if the object was to peak interest into what's next, apparently it's doing the job well.

Eh i never got that impression. Its a Batman v Superman movie with about 5 minutes of Dawn of Justice.

Well, there are a lot of DC products made for (and/or appealing to) children:

Superhero Girls (I do recommend this; it seems awesome. I haven't watched many though). http://origin.dcsuperherogirls.com/en-us. They are making more animated stuff in this universe (lot of toys too - some of them actually look better than collectibles).

DC Kids/Superfriends/Batman Unlimited - For younger children, although Batman Unlimited is fun to watch for all ages.

DC TV Shows - More popular than any of the others; you probably know about this anyways.

Lego Animated Line - Lego Games, Lego Animated Movies (They are making 2 animated DVD movies every year - JL: Cosmic Clash came out earlier this year). Of course, there are the movies too - like Lego Batman, coming out soon. There are also games following this universe, like Lego Batman 1 and 2.

It's unfortunate that many of them are not widely known (perhaps WB should promote them more?).

It's unfortunate that BvS isn't appealing to children, hopefully the other movies are (although, I wouldn't recommend SS - since that's straight out villains, not superheroes).

Thank you for this post. It's nice to see someone approach the whole kids and superheros dilemma with a level head.

How's the WOM amoung the GA?

The audience was silent during my screening and many people complained loudly about it afterwards.

It made me uncomfortable.

Yep it's spoiler free. Link in my sig.

I can't believe so many DC fans are selfish enough to WANT a series of movies featuring the most hopeful, heroic hero that are this nihilistic. He kills. He frowns. He saves people sometimes maybe when he's not being a dick. Nice way to garner a new generation of fans.

The movie changed my opinion of the movie. The audience reaction post screening just put the final nails in the coffin.

I just read your review. It seems level headed. I think I will in fact enjoy it, I am more of a visual person. Plus I like Frank Miller's dark nihilistic take on Batman. Overall sounds like a slightly above average movie or a C+. I understand you giving the movie a second chance. The fact that you did that only makes your review more authentic to me, because to me, you wanted to give it an honest, thorough look. Thanks for the review.

Dude seriously? Are you this desperate to defend a movie you haven't seen to come after me and how I work?

Peer pressure is a *****.

Nope. But seeing it again was.

Or seeing it a second time did.

But his opinion never changed he said it was a disappointment after his first view, he was very clear about that. His second vieweing just reaffirmed it even more. But nah can't be that let's focus on his comment about the two kids and hammer him about it... DC FANBOYS UNITE

Seriously. It baffles me. Nonstop insults since last night.

I sincerely doubt that.

the fanboy or review part ;)

but you can doubt all you want, i've never seen a professional review change his mind in under 24 hours before. tho i think i'm doing a disservice to him by saying he liked the movie yesterday, i guess he was just being misrepresented.

For all those all stayed strong behind BvS for years. I haven't seen the movie yet and i don't know how audience will be about this movie and upcoming DC films but these boards have been nothing but stellar.

I love how people are all over Poni for changing his opinion after a second viewing. That's an extremely common thing that I'm willing to say everyone here has done.

Thanks. I stand by my opinion that if you're an adult fan of these characters there's a lot to like here. It was clearly made with the comic book reading crowd in mind.

you sound like you can't take criticism too well. good place for the misuse of ironic, eh? and i'm not desperate to defend this movie. i am still looking forward to seeing it, but at this point i'd say people whose reviews i respect have tempered my enthusiasm, i hate to say the name, but i tend to agree with devin faraci on most films.

but i do think its an interesting question, should a critic give any piece of art a second chance? but as i also said, it's pretty off topic.

The amount of denial fandoms go through when something isn't well received is always baffling.

Yep.

Second time I saw Age of Ultron I went from loving it to feeling pretty meh about it. Second time I saw Ant-Man made me like it even more. Changing opinions is common because you can pick up on things that you didn't in your first viewing, and look at the movie knowing what's coming and how it's going to play out.

Well yeah. It's bad enough being content with "subpar" critical reception, but it's even worse that they're ok with what can only be described as "character assassination"

I feel that Snyder not only doesn't understand these characters but truly feels they are little more than their aesthetic. And if he nails that he's done them justice.

He said GA, not people at fan screenings.

I saw it with what I would consider a GA audience [Repost] I saw it with a much of IMAX execs, IMAX employees and PR people (some of which brought their families). It was a morose atmosphere after it ended. Felt like a funeral procession. That's usually the vibe with stuff like 12 Years a Slave.

I think you SHOULD BE BOTH. If you love something, be critical about it. Don't give it a pass on mistakes (as long as you are constructive about it). I'm often in that position regarding sports, I get a lot of bad looks when I criticize my team, but being blindly supportive just leads to more flaws. If you love it, demand it to be good.

Funny you mentioned sports...I am the same way. I get a lot of hate from my fellow fans lol because I say what I see instead of saying what I am supposed to say. Just blindly supporting things is really very dangerous especially towards the very thing you support because they'll just think ''ahh they'll support it either way so why make a good attempt ?''.

I feel like if you, as a fan, are objective then it means you care more about it imo and if every fan out there could be objective then people who are responsible for their products will HAVE to do a better job at raising the quality of their products. You want a good movie ? Be honest when it's bad, be critical when it's bad. Only then will you see change in a good way.

EXACTLY! Man of Steel was setting up Superman, the way he talks with Swanwick at the end is TOTAL Superman to me, that's what I wanted to see more of.

You know something, Cavill is an intelligent guy, and I've noticed in all his press interviews he's saying "We're still building towards the Superman everyone knows and loves". I think that's damage control from him, he knows fine well a lot of fans are going to be disappointed that we're still stuck with brooding Superman and we're still not getting hopeful Superman.

At this point, I am worried that Cavill will not be given the chance to be a charismatic and upbeat Superman at any point. His time window to play the character may expire and miss that chance.

I LOVED MOS, but I saw it as a first act for Superman. I wanted Cavill to give us more sides to Superman in the next movies, but if it is not coming through, it is a waste indeed, of a potentially great portrayal of the character. The start was there but it needs to be let grow.
