Just checking, but are spoilers allowed in here? I haven't seen the movie yet but ppl already spoiling stuff in here with character kill counts and what not.

I would say don't open the spoiler tags that are obviously marked SPOILER

Superman goes to Africa to save Lois. It was a trap set my Luthor. Jimmy Olsen (who is actually a CIA guy undercover as a cameraman) gets executed. Lois is taken prisoner. When the mercenaries hear Superman incoming they bug out. Lois gets used as a human shield by the warlord. Superman lands in the building with them. Lois drops her hands from the warlord's arm that's around her and nods to Supes. He smirks in an "I understand" way. Then spears the warloard at superspeed, busting through the stone wall of the building and through the next building.

Jesus...all of that is just awful. The most unsettling part is [blackout]Jimmy's execution. Somehow I could see Snyder thinking he is so damn clever to make Jimmy a CIA agent, like he is making a very profound comment on journalists being taken hostage in third world countries on trumped up espionage charges. I don't know what he is trying to say, it certainly isn't clever (as I am sure he thinks it is).[/blackout]

I updated the rating. I stand by my review. When I review something I try to remain as objective as possible. I don't fill in what I "like" or "dislike." I leave that for personal recommendations to people who ask directly.

Understood.

Do you think WB made a mistake in releasing the review embargo at all before release?

Certainly the bad buzz created from having no reviews on RT would not have compared to what is happening right now.

Like I said, nihilistic. Snyder doesn't understand these characters. He's playing with action figures in a sandbox.

Literally a character assassination.

I simply cannot believe how bad this was.

The reviews did not prepare me for it.

Yes. They should have kept it till day of release. They were banking on ticket presales. Treat it like MOS. Frontload the hell out of it and hope for the best later on.

so, I just read Poni and Scarecrow's spoilers about Superman from the last thread.

wow!! just.........wow!! :(

and to hear that about [BLACKOUT]Jimmy Olsen[/BLACKOUT] is equally depressing and infuriating.

I'm still seeing the film this Saturday, and I'm still willing to give it a chance.

but the more I hear and read about it..............it's not good.

this thing about Superman especially just makes me sad, angry, and just disappointed overall.

Zack? I mean:
Chris Terrio ... (written by)
David S. Goyer ... (written by)

There are some great sequences in this film.

But there is nothing clever about it.

It is fundamentally a stupid film trying to sound smart.

Snyder: Wait! I am confused. Why is that woman not posed in a sexually provocative position? What else could her purpose in the movie be if not objectification and 13 year old male wish fulfillment!?

Regarding the characterization of Superman, Snyder went dark in MoS. Zod was rightfully dark. But it seems like Snyder went even darker for BvS. I mean with a Superman like this, is there really a need for DARKseid? That's going to have people jumping off bridges.

I have no empathy for Snyder's Superman. He doesn't come off as relatable in the slightest. This whole critical fallout is like a nightmare. Going to go dark until I watch the movie lol

Oh lord, are we playing that card now? We all know a director had nothing to do with the story or script.

The best character moment in this film is when Wonder Woman gives a big toothy grin when

Doomsday knocks her down

It was like the whole audience reinvigorated for a second.

Won't be surprised if we see other studios start holding the embargo as long as possible if they have any fear at all of bad buzz.

They cracked the code with the flash tv show. If I were the dc execs I would not hesitate handing some movie duties off to the tv show creator. The flash has a great balance of drama/ fun/ pure comicbook feeling. The show nails the story but just needs a bigger budget behind it.

My screening last night had a bunch of kids in it. One group in particular of around 10 year olds was very upset after it was over. They looked and acted like they just got out of a hostage situation. One of their mom's was trying really hard to make them happy saying "let's get some ice cream who wants ice cream" over and over. Why a superman movie would want to affect kids in this way is beyond me.

I genuinely fear for the future of these characters. And I'm not even a big fan of Superman or the other DC characters.

These people asking for dark, mature themes are forgetting that that's not why these characters became popular. Sure, that's fine for a what if tale or else worlds graphic novel, but for DC's flagship movie that's catered towards millions of people?

Movies are far, far bigger than comics now. Kids watch the movies then go read the comics. It's why you can literally see changes made to the comics to be more like the movies.

The idea that Iron Man and Captain America will be to future generation what Batman and Superman are to us is very, very real. WB/DC has already ruined Superman the past few decades, and they're trying their best to ruin Batman as well.

Guess what superheroes all of my little siblings and cousins know and love and buy toys of? Hint: None of them are in BVS.
