BvS BvS Rottentomatoes score - how important will it be, and what do you hope for? - Part 8

You know what is interesting to me when it comes to the Hypocritics and how they contradict themselves?

The HypoCritics lost their right to b***h when they gave JJ Abrams a pass for Episode 7’s copy and paste job plot with quotes like, “who cares if it’s derivative, it’s the greatest Star Wars sequel ever, it outdoes the original in every way, blah blah blah.” Their reviews became driven more by agendas and politics than anything else…not by the quality of the movie. And at this point, when I see Fast and Furious sequels getting 70% and 80% favorable ratings on rotten tomatoes, you know you’re dealing with “professional critics” who’ve mentally lost it.

Plus Superman Returns gets a higher than rating than both MOS and BvS?? I mean man, at least if you have a personal agenda against BvS as a critic, at least TRY to make it less obvious.

Unreal Bizarro world we live in.

Bingo. I love it when filmmakers make movies for fans. Even if a movie is crapped on and fails to spark public interest (I.e. DREDD) at least it was made for fans. But if this movie even seems to have failed in that regard. Divided the fanbase even more.

Well, let's be real for a second, this movie wasn't made for fans. MOS under performed in the eyes of WB and they decided to build off of that foundation to establish JL.

I love hearing ZS now talk about this "push-back" from the studio on including Batman, the killing of Superman, etc. The fact is, the studio has been trying to make a BVS and a Death of Superman movie for years. These were market-tested concepts for them. Audiences were going to flock to this movie based on the premise alone.

And they have. It's so dispiriting. The sad thing is, because JL is still a new thing that hasn't been depicted on screen yet, fans are going to flock to that movie too. For 3 films in a row now, ZS is selling his awful take on these characters based solely on the fact that he's the first director to bring a single concept to life. For MOS, it was a Superman movie set free of the Donner verse and taking full advantage of modern effects to show what Superman could do. For BVS, it was the idea of Batman and Superman on screen together and...FIGHTING. For JL, it's the JL. Characters we've never seen sharing the screen...and probably Justice Lord Superman as their enemy.

According to the cast it was. That was their response to the critics bashing it. That this movie was made for fans.

Well that's laughable. Is that what Cavill was saying in the original interview that gave us SadAffleck?

I 100% believe this movie was made for fans. 100%. But intent and action are two different things. They lost focus along the way. A lot.

That argument is incredibly idiotic. Made for the fans? The fans represent about 1% of the people going to see this movie which is already a given. If that were true, then they failed doing that I guess. :funny:

That audience score keeps going down to Chinatown.

Pretty much every CBM these days is "made for the fans". It's just that in this case the fans are largely the only ones to really appreciate it.

The fact that we have 8 separate threads where we are debating the morality of the characters in this film is proof enough that the filmmakers did not succeed at presenting the best possible story, or movie.

The critics consensus is that BvS is not a quality film. The consensus here is that there is no consensus.

The fact that we, the comic book movie fans strain at finding a consensus amongst each other, is another sign that the quality of the film was questionable. I honestly believe and perceive the majority of us are disappointed in different aspects of the movie.

There are varying degrees of disappointment and degrees of delusion being expressed here. At the end of the day, I understand it is subjective. Even still, there remains a standard of quality and I am confident that a movie such as Marvel's The Avengers exceeds the quality of The Avengers (Uma Thurman). Batman vs Supes was supposed to be a movie that should rival the quality of the Jurassic Worlds, The Force Awakens, it didn't. This has been reflected in the great divide of opinion here, and will be further reflected in the subsequent weeks' box office results.

Definitely a terrible business plan when you're in the blockbuster film business.

BvS made $420 mil in opening weekend, that shows no one cares about the critics.

I think it's important for a reality check here.

Latino Review has expanded on the film's cinemascore, indicating that it's target demographic (men, 18+) gave the film a B-. This means that the people it's made for consider it to be a worse film than Catwoman and Green Lantern.

Every time I see this response, I chuckle. It's represented so dishonestly it reminds me how quickly the average person runs with headlines.

It opened in 66 territories, which is unheard of. It blew it's wad in the first week. That's why those numbers turned out the way they did. Yet, it still didn't surpass how it tracked.

The critics have a hand in the big drops between Fri/Sat and more specifically Sat/Sun. You'll find just how much more after the 2nd weekend (along with the poor WOM).

Oh hi, you're back. Could you do me a favor and explain why your studio put out a press release with misleading information about records breaking: http://www.warnerbros.com/studio/ne...pening-weekend-global-box-office-4241-million

When today we learned that only record it broke was biggest Fri - Sunday drop?

It's not that I'm against studio folks doing their spin thing, but at least you can be helpful while you're at it.

He's not at fault.

The point is that he was there when it happened. Not that he made it happen.

Luthor is just stirring up fervor.

It's essentially anti Superman propaganda.

How is that an effective way to stir up Anti-Superman propaganda...? He was involved in an incident where he saved an American citizen from a group of terrorists. I don't see how that's what triggered the hearing as opposed to the ransacking he and Zod laid out to Metropolis.
But whatever, I still want to know because I didn't get an answer: who died in this incident? Innocent villagers, or the terrorists? I assume it's because innocent bystanders were killed since it doesn't make any sense for a senate hearing to take place over some dead terrorist's who kidnapped and killed American citizens. Is this correct? I'm asking you but if anyone else can pipe in and clarify, please do.

Critics are so depressed to find out they have no value they might as well quit their jobs and go home.

This isn't a critic forum it's a fan forum. So please explain to fans why your studio bs-ed a press release to get headlines that has now caused a full day of useless debating. I'm asking as a fan. PS I'm SUPER excited for Suicide Squad

Well not necessarily, clearly their websites are getting hits so they have no reason to quit.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen.

He's right, guys. I heard RT was shutting down and closing shop after this weekend. Clearly they just don't matter anymore!

*sees the Friday-Sunday drop*

Oh, wait...

Anyone who likes the film and are getting personal with critics and other posters, promulgating conspiracy theories of payola or the like... Please stop. STOP.

You aren't doing yourself or the "side" you claim to be on any favors. That's immature silliness.

That said... The opposite side seems to be also taking things into a strange personal side as well as though a terrible personal wrong was done to them too.

I am too busy to really be in the mix as much as I would like but in some ways I am happy. For even as a big fan since I was a child, for thirty plus years, there is an over the topness to the fan community these days which is exhausting to take part in.

I would recommend to all Glen Weldon's forthcoming book THE CAPED CRUSADE: Batman And The Rise Of Nerd Culture to get a better view on the online fan culture surrounding super hero properties.

Because people will associate him with it, period.

The terrorists were villagers, weren't they? The real terrorists were Luthors mercenaries.
