The Dark Knight Rises Call backs.

"If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart."

- Ra's in BB.

Talia doesn't stab Bruce in the heart, but she definitely walks up behind him and stabs him.

She does stab Bruce in the heart, just metaphorically.

She does stab Bruce in the heart, just metaphorically.

That is true. In any event, I felt this scene was a very clear callback to that line from Ra's in BB. I didn't notice it the first time I watched TDKR, but then I watched BB the next day and it immediately hit me.

Just loved how Bane said something to the effect of, [BLACKOUT]"You merely adopted the night. I was born in it! I didn't see light well until I was a grown man!"[/BLACKOUT]

Just makes me think of BTAS where in the title sequence where Bats says, "I am the night!"

"That's brick underneath. Gonna take ballistics off a shattered bullet?"
"No. Fingerprints."

In TDKR Selina dusts off a set of fingerprints belonging to Bruce from his safe.

I don't know where I would put this, so I'm using this thread.

At the beginning of the film we see ice and it starts to crack, showing the bat logo.

At the end of the film, before the screen fully becomes black, all we see is water.

Alfred walking into Bruce's bedroom with the breakfast tray, and having that look on his face when he find's Bruce is not there, followed by the shot of the empty bed.

The bats bursting out of the wall when Bruce is climbing out recalls the bats bursting out of the chest during his final training in Batman Begins when the League "purged" his fear. It's basically symbolizing the fear of death returning to a newly realized Bruce. :)

Love this thread. Some others I spotted:

-Bruce and Talia's romantic scene by the fire where she talks about her past calls back to the scene in Begins with Bruce and Ra's sitting by a fire, where Ra's discusses his past.

-While in prison, Bruce has a nightmare about the day he fell into the well as a boy that jolts him awake.

-Bruce is released from prison, dropped off in the middle of nowhere, and then begins his journey towards the League of Shadows. In the the TDKR flashback sequence, we learn that Young Ra's was sentenced to the pit, but then released and dropped off in the middle of nowhere, embarking upon a journey that eventually leads him to the League of Shadows. The shots are framed very similar, only Bruce is in the snowy Himalayas, Ra's is in the middle of the desert.

-Talia's line about "the slow knife" is a bit reminiscent of Joker's line about preferring knives to savor the kill.

One of the best ones [imo] has already been mentioned.
the one where Kid Bruce's riding the monorail with his parents on the way to the Opera,

Kid Bruce says "Is that where you work?"
His Pops says "No, I work at the Hospital, I leave the running of the company to much... Better Men"
Kid Bruce smirks, surprised and says "Better? men"
His Pops says: [obviously being modest], "more interested men.."
looks at his wife...

The Dialog between Bruce & Alfred about fixing the autopilot was definitely a callback or homage to that scene in BB,

but the subtle one no one's mentioned yet, during Bane's speech on the tumbler, when he frees the prisoners at Blackgate, ...after reading Gordon's "The Truth about Harvey Dent" speech..

he goes on to say "blood will be spilled, etc etc.."

he also says [while they cut to a shot to them underground]

"The Police will survive, as they learn to serve true justice"

isn't the "Serve true Justice" part a nod to Ras Al Ghul in Batman Begins?"

where he says ... "If someone stands in the way of true justice, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart"?

Im not sure if its intentional but I think Blake says something about not saying thank you to Batman (like Gordon at the end of Begins) and Bruce says again tells him not to thank him.

Yeah some of these "callbacks" really are just coincidences.

This is not a callback to any of the Batman films but the way JGL is describing the situation to the US Forces who snuck in the city in the kitchen reminded of the way he was describing the plane situation to Cobb & the others in Inception. :hehe:

Yeah some of these "callbacks" really are just coincidences.

Well that may be, although some of these coincidences are definitely pretty specific without being direct call backs. One I just thought of which I don't thinks been mantioned is Blake when talking to Bruce in the manor mentions something about his father being a gambling addict; when I saw it immediately brought to mind the jokers story about his mother getting in "deep with the sharks". Also the way talia talks about the knife was very reminiscent of joker explaining why he used a knife to savor the little emotions slowly.

A writer isn't allowed to believe in coincidence :cwink:

If you re-watch the movie knowing that Marinda is actually Talia - she says "restore balance to the world" when talking to Bruce about the Fusion project.

and also when bruce comes back to Gotham and meets up with fox he says to marinda that he cant take her now and she says "its ok do whats necessary"

Both are references to the LOS and Ra's in begins. AWESOME!!
