It does help to explain some of the more fantastical elements of the costume, like the boots and eagle wings on his head :D

My idea is that Captain America is ALREADY a fictional character (like Uncle Sam) that the US uses to promote War Bonds and boost moral with comic books etc... Steve just gets dumped into the costume and he makes the character... A LEGEND.

Sounds pretty good  then, it'll be epic at the climax when he (more then likely) sacrifices himself to stop something or save someone or something :woot: then is frozen - at that point, The US Is stunned that their #1 hero is killed in action, but after a while is somewhat forgotten, Up until The Avengers where he is thawed out.

I have a rising suspicion that the Captain America films will all take place in WW2 with the third one having him frozen in ice

That wouldn't suck. But I prefer them having a story arc that carries through the past and the present... that way they could use flashbacks to show the past while we still get to see Cap in the present...because half the fun of Cap is the "man out of time" aspect.

same here. i think one WW2 film is enough. anything else they wanna get across from the war can be in flashback form. modern day cap is too awesome to not do anything with besides avengers movies.

IMO its why they signed the Bucky actor to three films. It wouldnt make sense to now have two people in present day from WW2...it takes away from the uniqueness of Cap

I Doubt they will, They need to have Cap ready for modern day by 2012 in The Avengers, which means, he'll most likely be frozen by the end, or maybe frozen at the beginning and the film will film will be sort of like looking at what happened just before, Just about everyone knows Cap ends up in a deep freeze anyways, So that sounds pretty good to me.

They also signed the actors who played Uncle Ben and Norman Osborn to a three picture deal too, maybe even the guy who shot uncle ben.
They just want to be sure the actor will return when Steve has nightmares about Bucky's death in all the other films.
Imagine Steve has a bad dream about seeing Bucky blow up in the Avengers movie. So they need the same actor to play him.
Plus, what if they want him to play the Winter Soldier some time later.

I wouldn't mind seeing that either (Cap movies based in WWII). The comic tried to do that a long time ago, when Cap was brought back in Avegners and then got his own comic alongside Iron Man in Tales of Suspence. They tried to bring back the old WWII Cap stories, but fans hated them or at least didn't buy them as much, so they scrapped it, and brought him back to the modern times in his stories.

yea i still cant wait to later this year once filming does get under way to see how all the costume and designs turn out for the film. we should get some interesting stuff. Though in other stuff. its more then likely will be just this one film with ww2 stuff. Since we already know the film will be set in the 40s minus the likely climax scenes and being thawed into the present. Then the whole man out of time deal will be worked on during avengers and captain america 2. As for bucky, sure they could probably do some flashbacks for him of the 40s/50s and all that with going through the WS storyline if thats the case for bucky. And then like i and others have pointed out. if they are going with the WS storyline. We can see bucky and cap "Die" in the 40s and all that. Then in avengers learn of or see a mysterios hitman codenamed winter solider. Who we learn via shield been taking out political targets for decades and no one knows who he is or if its been multiple folks under that name. Then in cap 2 we learn its bucky and he is evil. Then by cap 3 bucky could turn good, and we go from there.

yup, the fact that JJ said he was inspired bt Brubakers run really makes me think we,ll get WS. plus hes awesome. also the fact that the dude tried out for Cap makes me think thats why they may have picked him for Buck. maybe they wanted someone whod make a good WS later on. wont know for sure for frigging years tho. aargh! haha

I pray the movie version is nothing like this mini-series version that Marvel is coming out with if it is I will certainly pass I want to see a superhero movie not a high tech James Bond rip off or a GI Joe the movie wanna be I want 616 if they wont give it I won't be paying to watch it.

the description JJ gave of the suit is closer to the 616 suit

that suit has nothing to do with the movies. its basically secret agent steve rogers. and considering that espionage has been an element of the Cap comics for a while now i have no problems with it for the time being.

yea there is no way that new suit is going to be what we are getting in cap 1 or avengers we are bound to have the classic look with some changes and all that and from what we know it is. Plus for all we know that new comics suit could be temporary and only be around for a short timeframe.

i think it looks like the standard issue SHIELD uniform with a Cap motif.

well it will be great once we are closer to filming or once we are filming and any of the costumes get spotted.

cant wait for filming to start so we could get more details on costumes and then hopefully some photos poping up.

Some manips of that new costume for Rogers as Cap I posted in the manip thread and thought I'd post here for discussion.
