Supergirl Casting CWverse Superman for Supergirl

True...I thought Kara had much better chemistry with Cat's son and with Barry Allen (Flash).

I've seen chemistry between James and Kara, BUT....that isn't my problem.

He has been written as a "Mansel In Distress".....a "Wishy-Washy just need a woman" kind of character. Pretty much what I've hated for decades in how so many superhero shows have written the girlfriend in these series....it's now simply a guy. IMO, Kara would never go for a "mansel in distress" type of guy....AT ALL. They really need to give James something solid to do in the 2nd season rather than pine over Kara and then every time she tries and tells him her feelings he either looks at her and says "what do you mean?", "what are you trying to say?" OR THE OTHER ONE THAT I HATED.... "I just need some time, to think....." that drove me nuts.

I like James, but I agree the writing for his character and their romance has been a weak spot. I really want them to bring in Brainiac 5. I think he and Kara could have a really fun dynamic that starts off somewhat antagonistic (him being the arrogant, detached, socially inept, pragmatic genius; her being the warm, cheerful, optimistic "people person") and eventually evolves into something else. It would be a nice change from what we've seen in her romances thus far, imo.

because it's easier to find a good actor and make him look like Superman
then finding someone who looks like Superman who is a good actor

It's not a requirement that an actor 'look like' a certain version of a character, nor should it be.

David Rappaport hasn't failed yet when it comes to casting, so whomever gets picked will be the right person for the job based on how the producers have chosen to depict the character.

I don't know who to cast as Superman, but then again... I'm Not Rappaport.

In keeping with my suggestion of actors who've been connected to the role in one way or another...

section 13 was passed on so Tom Welling is free. Seems like a no brainer, my guess is the part is his if he wants it.

Again, the support for Welling is truly surprising.

Would Tom Welling even want to do it? He was against wearing the suit even on Smallville.

I hope they bring in Brainiac 5 because he and Supergirl are the real couple.

Read some quotes for a supposed recent interview of him saying something on the lines of "I have not been approached about this yet but if they do I would consider it, besides they need to give me notice so I can hit the gym" or something of that nature. Perhaps if someone else here read or knows of this they can post the link with that interview.

Personally, Tom Welling has my 100% support and I'd love to seem him return as Superman/Clark. It seems very fitting and I think it would even draw more interest. Seems to be more positive support for having Tom reprise his role as Supes than negativity

This is the most recent quote...

"There's people who would like it... there's people who don't like it, but I will tell you that no one has ever actually asked me to do it. So, I don't know. It would be kind of odd. I don't know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman..."

Agreed. I don't know why so many people want him back for the role when he never actually wore the suit in his own show. It's been well documented on how Welling has no desire to ever don the full Superman costume, yet we find so many online wanting him to portray Superman in this show.

Though if by some miracle Welling did have a change of heart in how he felt about the suit and was actually offered the role, the bright side to this is that they would be able to easily convince Erica Durance to portray Lois on this show since Erica Durance has stated in the past that she would only portray Lois in other medium if Tom was her superman.

I take it you weren't around these forums during the infamous Superman Casting Wars of yesteryear? :funny:

Welling had some of the most hardcore and fanatical fans, that pushed HEAVILY for him in the role. I'd never seen such a vocal and devoted fanbase attributed to an actor playing a superhero.

For what it's worth I'd be perfectly fine bringing him back (and Erica Durance as Lois, too). It just seems like a longshot.

So, when do we hear something official? It is June. I am assuming they will start filming season 2 soon, within the next month or so? Don't they like to have a few episodes in the can before the start of the season? At this point, I am not too concerned over who they cast in the role. Just announce something.

Alot of fans have wanted him going back to the Superman Returns days . Then his name came up again during the casting for Man of Steel.

I liked Welling on Smallville, but I personally feel that time has past, and its time to give the mantle to new actor who can make the role his own as opposed to going back to Welling, Cavill, or Routh.

Now , Welling as another character on Supergirl ala Dean Cain , Helen Slater, and Lara Vandervoot, i'd be fine with.

Tom Welling is the appropriate age for the role and he has played the role for 10 seasons. He'd also probably be happy to guest-star.

Actually it makes sense if they hire Welling for the role. In the multiverse they have created...I wouldn't be surprised if Smallville is in it. And if so...their Clark Kent will look like Supergirl Earths Clark.

But why doesn't their Kara look like the Smallville Kara? Or Cat Grant? Or (Henry) James Olsen? Or Maxwell Lord? Barry Allen?

Nah, better to not even mention Smallville. I'd be fine with Welling, but don't connect it to SV.

I doubt Welling wants to play same character again and whether he is ready to wear suit this time.

Supergirl already has a different Lucy Lane to Smallville who works at the DEO. Smallville's Lucy Lane is now Lisa Snart in the CW-verse.

Here is the thing...sometimes people are like that. They will deny, deny, deny......giving obscure answers, like he has done a couple of times. "I don't know who he is now?" What the heck? He's Superman....lol just weird answers and then BOOOOOOOM there they are in the part.

I don't think that is going to happen in this instance. I think having a casting call and some time to get all of that in place is what is happening.

I'm doubtful we will even have a name by SDCC 2016, but you never know. They could surprise the hell out of us and bring Welling out.... lol

I agree. I actually prefer him to just be Clark Kent/Supes of the Supergirl-Earth. No multiverse connection to Smallville. Like I said in a previous post. Most casual viewers won't be confused if he plays Supes. Only the fans would care.

And fans are smart enough to know the difference.
