Chapter 36- “ The Butterfly Effect” – Discussion Thread 9/22/08

I agree with Niki/Jessica/Tracy having multiple personalities. That the Tracy personality appeared at the end of last season and her Cryokinesis saving her from a firey death.

It wasn't a big jump in the beginning to suppose Sylar might possibly eat the brains of his victims as it was mentioned in one early episodes that they were missing (I could be mistaken) However, as the season revealed itself that theory became less likely. It is a myth that was believed by certain "primitive" cultures that eating a person would give you their strength etc. Of course that's been proven wrong but I like how they actually added it in the context of the story.

Not sure about the powers though because the way Mohinder described everybody would gain different abilities depending on their genetic code. Thus Mohinder gained super strength, reflexes, sense etc instead of gaining Maya's plague ability.

Don't know I'm still waiting on more info on how people get their abilities and use them.

I hope to God Sylar isn't a petrelli because this is seriously getting a bit lame. The first heroes season was about random people around the world,(some who just happen to have powers) getting connected through events, kind of like Crash. Thats what made it so great, the writers have been slowly turning the main charecters into one big family...and that is not cool. Its like everyone in this show is related and when Angela said Sylar was her son I wasn't even much surprised...Thats how much they overdo it. :whatever:

And Sylar DOES just see "how things work" and I just don't understand this. Mohinder hinted that all the mutant's power originate in the same fashion so what the hell is there to "see"? Secondly does Sylar have microscopic vision or something??
I always thought he ate brains...thats the most logical thing...because so what, you can "see how things" work, how does that change your DNA?....and I felt that through out season 1 and 2 the writers faintly suggested that sylar practiced cannibalism on his victims but whatever.
I was at least hoping though even if it wasnt "sylar eats brains" it would be something else that at least makes a tad bit sense. :down

And tracy strauss...dont like her so far.
AND I CAN'T BELEIVE THEY KILLED BOB!!! WTF! Hes one of my favorite charecters. And speaking of "charecter", is it me or does it just seem really out of charecter for Angela Petrelli to just throw Elle away like that?...she could get bitter and hate the company, I always though Angela Petrelli was much smarter than that :o

And everyone can catch how corny it is how Maya suddenly lost her accent....now Im asking why is she suddenly okay that her brother was killed, its like she doesn't even care ...and it happened like the day before, wtf, I thought they were close :hehe:

And daphne is soooo annoying, she needs to stop moving her neck so damn much :o

Anyone ever notice how all the women are blonde's ?? Cause that Daphne girl and Elle, I think were cast a little too similarly to each other.
Awesome season opener though.

What part don't you understand? Sylar's base ability is to see how things work. He's been able to cut open peoples heads and see how their powers work in conjunction with their brains and what functions need to be done in order to make that happen in his.

It's very simple, and a lot more logical then eating brains.

I hope Mrs.P has a plan when it comes to Elle since she just let a loose cannon go. Elle is probably one of the strongest heroes power wise and if she wanted to, she could shut down the company or accidently expose the special people. But if she were around longer, she probaby would have moved in with Claire and family. And we still dont know the connection that Elle has to Claire (unless its HRG) so hope we find that out.

I hope Sylar is not Peter and Nathan's brother. Having everyone close connected like that makes the world seem too small, kinda like how they did with the Star Wars prequels. Yoda just had to have known Chewie and Anakin building CP30.

True but... what was the point of the whole brain eating thing? I mean, if he wanted them dead after seeing their abilities he could...stab them...shoot them... push them off a cliff. But he didn't, right?

And about the whole I HOPE HE'S NOT THEIR BROTHER THING.
God, I hope so too. That's just ridiculous. Too much incest in this story.

Although I am sadly hoping for a Peter<3Claire thing >.>

Slicing someones head open and figging around with the brain would be enough to kill one person. Even if someone survives the head opening part, I'm sure Sylar kills them. Claire even asked why he kept her alive and he said he couldn't kill her even if he wanted to.

True. For a second there, I forgot about Claire's regeneration.
But, Adam has the same power, and everyone kept running around saying "Cut off his head, it's the only way to kill him." So this leads to more questions.

Did anyone else think that the reporter who was turned to ice looked like William Katt (The Greatest American Hero)?

Mama Petrelli's dream showed Claire without her head. So that seems to be the way to kill Adam and her.

I think Niki reminds me of Shane Gooseman from the Galaxy Rangers; her power manifests itself differently depending on what it needs to survive. She got super strength to fend herself from an abusive father, then she got ice powers to survive a fire.

Where did everyone go?

The return of Heroes on NBC, meanwhile. was a big disappointment last night. The one-hour clips show was third in the 8 p.m. hour, with 5.96 million viewers and a 2.6/ 7 in the demo. That led into the two-hour season three premiere at just 9.89 million viewers and a 4.9/12 among adults 18-49 from 9-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

Heroes (NBC)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 10.15 million (#3), A18-49: 4.8/11 (#3)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 10.28 million (#3), A18-49: 5.0/11 (#2)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 9.61 million (#3), A18-49: 4.9/12 (#2)
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 9.52 million (#2), A18-49: 4.8/12 (#2)

One year earlier, Heroes kicked-off the season (on Sept. 24, 2007) with a much heftier 16.97 million viewers and a 7.3/17 among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that’s erosion of a massive 7.08 million viewers and 33 percent in the demo. In other words, absence may not have made the heart grow fonder for fans of Heroes.

New shows always begin with tons of viewers. But as time goes on a lot of people don't stick with a show.

Not always, shows can see growth or maintaining viewers.

And 7 million? And no other show saw a 7 million increase, those people just didn't watch anything on network television last night. Prison Break is down 2 million, ABC stayed the same and CBS saw small improvements. If the show is around 9 million NBC better hope it doesn't dip around 6 million later in the season.

I watched it but only new the premiere was last night cause my GF told me. I had no clue otherwise.

So since we don't know exactly what Mohinder will become, its safe to call him for the time being SureshBug? :hyper:

I don't know if this was already posted, but I think this is what Suresh is turning into:

Or Seth Brundle.:oldrazz:

Anyway, I think some people are mis-interpreting the whole dream sequence that Angela had. If you recall since Peter had the same power (and got it from her) the dream he had, while prophetic, were also very symbolic, meaning while the events they show will happen, it doesn't happen literally. So when they show Adam Monroe, Tracy (?), Knox, and (surprised nobody caught this) Matt's dad, and then Sylar, notice where Sylar is? He's standing next to Angela. In other words, he's on her side and NOT with the villians. Which makes sense since we had the scene with Angela telling Sylar that he's her son, and [blackout]the preview which shows Angela assigning Sylar as HRG new partner.[/blackout]

And sorry guys, but Ali Larter is playing a new character, not Niki. Remember, Niki was blown up and Nathan getting shot happened roughly around the same, and all the events that happened in these two episodes happened roughly within days of those events. Also, Tracy apparently has been a political advisor to the Governor, and lover, for what appears to be a long time, maybe several years at least. And--here's what everybody has forgotten--Niki was injected with the Shanti virus last season which means she lost all of her powers prior to that warehouse fire.

Could Tracy be a twin/clone of Niki?
