Chapter 58 - "I Am Sylar" Discussion Thread - 4/20/09

Very interesting turn of events, I like where this is going!!!:D:up:

Was anyone else upset that they totally blew the Micha/Sylar reveal? We shouldn't have known for sure until we saw Micha on the couch.

So it seems 5 years gone isnt gonna happen exactly. Sylar doesnt want to be nathan as president. He wants to be THE President.....pretty cool

I thinking Sylar's final comeuppance is that he's going to shift into someone for the final time and get stuck, powerless and all.

Decent episode, but everything started happening way too fast near the end.

And I'm curious as to why Sylar isn't dead.

I think Danko missed the precise spot that is needed to be hit in order to kill him. Maybe that's just my idea, though.

Remember how Sylar said his atoms were rearranging themselves on their own? I think the "sweet spot" inadvertantly moved elsewhere. That's why he didn't die.

And is Fuller just pretending nothing happened sense he left? Referencing 5 Years gone and Parkman just getting back with his first wife like Daphne was a minor fling. It's a little annoying.

Superman is a bit Fascist.lol

I guess if his dna or whatever was altering (ex.the tooth) it's possible his soft spot is different.

It was a good episode .Only some minor complaints/ questions:
Nathan going after Sylar alone..He should of known he wouldn't stand a chance.
Sylar should of been out at least until the next episode, Let Danko get the upperhand.
The Micah death rouse was almost pointless.

Ugh that is really corny and just another way to make Sylar invincible.

This episode was such a disappointment. Partly because NONE of the scenes they put in the preview were in this episode and partly because we really didn't need another exhibition of Sylar's mommy issues. God, how many episodes like this do we need?

Also, how the hell did Sylar know Micah, know his parents are dead, etc? They've never met, Sylar has never known who he, DL, or Nikki were. What was the deal with that?

Third, Matt's just shrugging off the exisitence of Daphne is a slap in the face to her fans.

On the brightside, at least the Hiro/Ando story was actually watchable for the first time since season 2.

Sylar can see the history of the object he's touching. He was at the time was touching Micah's phone.

Man I love plot devices.

So how does Micah's cell phone (which was a fairly new model) have the history of DL and Nikki's dea...y'know what? I don't care. I'm pretty sure that is the dumbest plot device in the history of anything. It makes the Parkman baby's super-convenient power look like a natural character evolution.

The previews were definately misleading. They used the same method with the Sopranos.
I was expecting an all out war ....

I felt the same thing about Daphne , it just felt weird.

Personally, I liked the whole "Norman Bates" spin Sylar had going on when he kept transforming into his adoptive mother and had conversations with himself. We already knew he was psychotic, but now his shape-shifting abilities have only added to it. Although, it did seem a bit repetitive revisiting his parental issues again. And geez, if the shape-shifting has also enhanced his regeneration properties, I guess he truly is immortal. So what now? Are the heroes going have to have to resort to coating him in molten gold and throwing him to the bottom of the ocean a la the bad guy from Ninja Scroll?

And speaking of ninjas, or rather would-be ninjas, why do I get the feeling that Hiro having nose bleeds and becoming catatonic are the creators ripping off Lost with the whole "mind can't compensate the effects of alterations of time travel?" Or in this case, altering time itself? I bet that, just like his mother, Hiro has developed some kind of brain tumor, in this case caused by his frequent use of his freezing time. Just another limitation to try and not make him as powerful, I suppose.

Decent, ep. That Hurt.<<<<< Loved that line.

Best part of the episode was Sylar getting stabbed in the back of the head. I was hoping it would take and Danko would just keep him inert like that until later when he or someone else removed the knife.

i loved the banter between sylar and his "mom"...i am alittle concerned that their is just too much to try and resolve in only one episode.

Referencing S1 has been happening throughout the entirety of this series. It's part of the reason why the show has been so weak. At least Fuller is doing less to try and COPY S1 storylines.

As for Daphne... she was a fun character, and they shacked up for a while, and Matt loved her a great deal... but Janice was his wife, whom he loved and went through more over a longer period of time with. And the father of his child. It's not like he moved on to a new girl suddenly, he went back to his first love, whom he never really had a concrete reason to leave in the first place.

And honestly, as cool as Daphne was, the lack of depth in her character (as with all characters not created in S1 or fixed by Fuller in S3), showed in the lack of depth of their relationship. They felt destined, but there was nothing concrete holding them together, imho.

^well said...i loved daphne's character and was sad to see her go. but at the end of the day she was little more than matt's rebound girl. btw what happened to turtle?

It's really getting ridiculous now. He started out as one of my favorite characters now they might as well call the man Jesus. Lord knows he has come back from the dead more times. :whatever: I share you sentiments.

It was cool and interesting at first then just got creepy and weird. We get is Sylar no one loved you...you don't know where you belong or what to do with your life. It's called being like everyone else. :whatever:

Also, how the hell did Sylar know Micah, know his parents are dead, etc? They've never met, Sylar has never known who he, DL, or Nikki were. What was the deal with that?
For that part I just chalked it up to the fact that maybe he has seen Micah's file at some point.

Third, Matt's just shrugging off the exisitence of Daphne is a slap in the face to her fans.
I don't think it's a complete shrug or slap in the face. As others have mentioned I think it's mor along the lines of going back to his first love and the realization that he now has a kid to look out for.

On the brightside, at least the Hiro/Ando story was actually watchable for the first time since season 2.
Meh some parts were good others not so much. I am really getting tired of their odd couple/trust issues/who gets to be the hero arguments all the time.

I think you have a valid point on most accounts but I chalk up some of the repitition and cheesy plot devices to Fuller trying to clean up a big pile of crap (Villains and early-Fugitives) all the while moving forward on his vision of the next Volume (Redemption). I really like how Fuller is having characters interact with each other for the 1st time, ala Sylar and Micah. And if their communication remains thru the next volume, then it will make Sylar yet again cheating death a lil easier to swallow. At least Fuller tried to foreshadow that happening by having Sylar tell Danko in a previous episode that he needs to precisely hit a very small spot. Anyways, like many on these boards, I hope we get the showdowns that we have been deprived of in previous season finales. Sylar vs the Petrelli Bros is a must for the main event , and Danko vs HRG would be a good fight on the undercard (so long as they both survive and make it to the next volume).
