Chapter 59 - "An Invisible Thread" Discussion Thread - 4/27/09

Well, I think if you're a shapeshifter and then you try to turn into someone you touch, who happens to be another shapeshifter, you'll probably start tweaking out a bit.

Did anyone notice how Sylar sort of flew into the window was he using telekinesis?

no, he took Nathan's ability, empathy remember?

So, Sylar has an advantage over Peter because Peter can't fly since Peter took Sylar's powers............. this is such a stupid show

Think so, if he can use TK to move objects and people around theres no reason why he can't levitate himself or move himself like he did. Thats what I got out of it anyway.

Fuller has 18 episodes to save this show from the rubbish bin, vol.4 to me was just wiping the slate clean, and I don't mind the Sylar/Nathan thing when I think its an selfish act on Angelas part, a trait of hers since Season 1.

Man, that Nathan/Sylar switcharoo was exactly what made me stop reading the Exiles comic book a while back.

Other than that, damn good finale. The last 30 mins had the heroes using their powers in the most badass ways(finally!). Would have preferred to see Hiro die but w/e.

He can be killed. Just because he moved the spot? Incinerate his body. Freeze him and shatter him. Liquefy him under ****ing pressure. do something! Obviously shooting or stabbing him doesnt work so get creative.

I call BS on this "spot moving" crap. The spot in his brain wasn't just some random placement, it was his F'ing brain stem. You can't move that and still look human, I don't care how good you are at shapeshifting

but...b but he's Sylar.....He can do teh amazingzz cuz he's better than everyone else :whatever::whatever:

Ugh. I did not like this ending at all. It's just... wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong. I didn't really care that much for Nathan, but for them to have Sylar shapeshift into him and take over his life... one of the worst ideas I've ever seen.

And the way he died seems just far too... simple. One cut to the throat, he bleeds, sits in a chair, bleeds some more, and its over. It was too... small a death, IMO.

And I wish they had showed Angela's dream. It was kind of sadistic to be like, "Oh, Matt's gonna save him," and then... oops, guess not. What did she see, then?

It was a simple assignment guys. Kill Nathan and Sylar, and keep us away from your trite storylines:

Building up to Sylar vs Peter
Claire and HRG trust issues
Nathan's redemption and love for Peter

And you go and dedicate a whole f'ing volume to all three? If this is what is keeping you up late at night writing, GO HOME.

Thanks Brian Fuller for getting my hopes up. At least I know now that it CAN be done, you just... won't.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the shapeshifter taking over a dead nathan's life is almost THREE YEARS overdue. That was set up perfectly when Nathan was obviously killed at the end of S1 and kept alive through handwaving and bullish until Adam's miraculous plot-killing blood could 'save' him from the force of explosion and radiation poisoning that should have killed him within minutes of the explosion.

Anyway, the company had an investment and a shapeshifter on payroll: Candice, played by an actress who was leaving anyway. Adrian Pasdar could have been kept and Nathan could have been killed. It would have been PERFECT. But no, they wanted to keep the same old same old storylines and now, they use the old, old set up to... keep doing the same old storylines. Instead of putting "Nathan" in a new situation, we're still doing 5 years gone. We're still doing Company Man, and we're doing severely worse than they were the first time.

Absolutely ridiculous.

I'm still unsure how Peter held his own against him. Pete can only hold 1 power at a time still right?

In theory, Peter and Nathan flew around in there dodging lightning attacks and dodging TK grabs (right?) until Peter managed to touch Sylar meanwhile Nathan was thrown through a window. The rest is history.

Another thing that irked me about this ep was the constant declawing of Claire. She played it smart, but any chance of her being any help was completely diffused. The writers can't help but make her a dumping ground for the actions and consequences of every other character. She, in and of herself, doesn't matter one little bit.

Well when "Save The Cheerleader" is the slogan for a whole season, I don't expect said cheerleader to actually be useful.

I don't mind Sylar. I'm just getting sick of EVERY volume starting out fine then near the middle it ends up being all about him.

I laughed really hard when Sylar just went "woosh" and slit Nathan's throat. It was so anti-climatic, but hilarious.

Did Peter actually get all of Sylar's powers, or did he just pick one to take?

I think he just got the Shape-Shifting. Also was Peter the one on the left or the right?

So by the latest graphic novel I guess it confirms that
Meredith is dead for good
That sucks. They always kill the interesting people. Or at least the one's who havnt (yet) been bastardized beyond redemption.

I take it Claude was not in this episode then??

It was mentioned in Suresh's voiceover at the end of the episode.

The "final battle" was WEAK....they didn't show anything.
I DID like how Sylar ended up though...I think next season Sylar won't be the enemy...it'll be more about him remembering who he is...then the season after he'll be the baddie again.

So, besides a weak fight, I really enjoyed this season.

Peter was the one to our left as they flew in (Nathan got blasted away by an electricity blast and Peter was throwing a punch at Sylar as the doors closed).
To be honest, with Peter de-powered to just having flight at that moment Sylar should have made very short work of the pair of them. I guess for arguments sake Peter was taking on a different power from Sylar each time he hit him to account for the 'battle' lasting as long as it did, settling on the shape-shifting when he was knocked down while Nathan (presumably) flew Sylar out of the window.

Whatever the case, it would have been nice to have actually seen it for once...

I agree with your fight scenario. I'd imagine a full on Peter vs Sylar fight would be very expensive. Maybe we'll get it for the series finale.
