Jessica Drew is the complete opposite of Skye. Even if you argue that Skye will go darker this season, Jessica is a character who started off dark, got a little lighter in the middle, and then went back to being just as dark. Skye is a spunky, plucky and more wise-cracking novice with a perky personality. Heck, even Melinda May's personality is more similar to Jessica's.
It really IS shoe horning Jessica into that role if that is who Skye is. Would you like, for example, Spider-Man at all costs (if he were with Marvel rather than Sony) even if that means sacrificing his smart ass, wise cracking personality and giving him something completely different? Or taking away his origin and background, just so that we can at least say we've had Spider-Man? Maybe you would personally, even if it's just Spider-Man in name only.
Jessica is not half Asian, and she's not even American. She's British, and she dyes her hair black (meaning that the black hair isn't indicative of some Asian heritage). She's also a woman out of time like Cap, who has spent half her life in suspended animation. She's very isolated and alienated from society and is not someone to socialise with others. She either creeps the hell out of other women or she makes men fall hopeless in love with her because of her alarm/ allure pheremones. Jessica even has more in common with Black Widow with the whole spy angle than Skye.
Even what they have revealed so far about Skye sounds nothing like Jessica's background. Sure, you can talk about her duplicitous nature at the start of the last season and draw these tenuous connections, but then Ward himself was duplicitous and actually worked for Hydra. How do we know then that HE isn't really Jessica Drew, just with a few things (eg gender) changed around a bit and adapted for live action? He has more in common with Jessica too when you actually examine things.
