Chris Hemsworth is Thor

I guess they are opting for Coipel's rendition of Thor :cwink:.

Something about Chris Hemsworth impressed Kenneth Branagh enough to change his mind last minute, after already practically casting Alexander Skarsgard in the role.

His role in Star Trek was small, he was basically exposition with a emotional hook. I think he did fine.

As for Home & Away, 'wooden' is basically the requirement for soap operas. You're also required to work on a weekly basis. Not to mention that he's going from that to being directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Hemsworth is the only casting I'm worried about. While he'll be surrounded by good actors, the whole film will stand on his shoulders and contrary to another rookie that played a super-hero, Brendan Routh on Superman, I think Thor will be far more challenging.

Hopefully Hemsworth won't be wooden like those that have watched him on soap opera have suggested him to be. Because Thor is everything except wooden, he's emotional as Hell and he can go nuts and start fighting anybody when he feels like it.

i am sure with kenneth's direction and all the others on board will help make chris do a very good job.

I didn't think He was wooden at all in Star Trek with the little screen time he had.

Well Supes got the rookie card played twice. One was epic the other was dull. We just have to hope that Hemsworth is more Chris Reeves and less Brandon Routh.

I think the reason Reeves shined, as I said in other posts, is that he had quite an extensive baggage in theatre acting contrary to Routh who had a few bits parts in a few tv shows.

Routh was also saddled with a terrible script. Hopefully Hemsworth will be able to avoid that particular setback.

Also for whatever reasons they seemed to have cast Routh as much for his Clark Kent as his Superman. You could see in the movie, his CK was like a parody of Reeve's work as Kent(similar voice, etc...) while he wasn't able to pull off the Superman part. It's like he couldn't make the break between Kent and Superman sometime contrary to Reeves who was able to make them two distinct personalities. Hopefully Hemsworth will be able to do the Thor part right, at least. Not too restrained. Thor to me is similar to Charlton Heston as far as grand standings and so forth.

And that all has to do with acting ability? Not the crappy screen play? Which Returns most certainly had.

For me, Chris Hemsworth's big test will be Cabin In The Woods. If JOSS WHEDON can't make you look like a star, then you really must be a block of wood.

I'm not saying he's one of them, but some of Australia's best actors started out in soaps. Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, Heath Ledger.

I have faith he'll be good. Branagh knows more about acting ability than any of us ever will.

That's the key really. Branagh should be trusted here I think.

Internationally known Australian actors who did not begin their career on a soap are very much in the minority.

Has Hemsworth being working on anything since his casting? I'm asking because it seems like they're not far off starting to make the movie and I wanna know if he's been hitting the gym.

I just got Star Trek on blu ray and I'm really excited for Hemsworth as Thor, he looks the part, and I think his acting will be top notch. Out of all the movies coming out in the next few years, I'm most excited for this one. The director and cast are fantastic and I think Hemsworth is going to surprise everyone.

Yeah, but most weren't as wooden as him.

I just Branagh. Like I said, he knows more about acting ability than you or I or anyone around here will ever know.

He hasn't had much to do with the press as of late. He is busy filming Red Dawn.

Actually I believe Red Dawn has wrapped and Hemsworth is currently busy with Thor rehearsals alongside Branagh, Hiddleston, Alexander, etc

Chris Hemworth is completely not buff enough.. He has to be shredded and HUGE to be Thor... he looks big but in a tom welling/frat boy way, does not look like a Norse God at all... are they going to use a fatsuit for him like they are for Ray Stevenson?

Ahh I have been corrected.... damn I wanna see what he looks like now.
