Chris Hemsworth is Thor

i see nothing wrong with chris's body for thor, he is tall, he is pretty jacked looking, now i just cant wait to see full thor look.

I think Chris Hemsworth is the perfect Thor for the "realism" that the Marvel Universe is going for in their new movies.

why would a god who is superhumanly strong need to be huge?

same with superman, why is he so big? wouldn't he be so strong that he'd have no way of getting that big. (though there is the theory of him storing yellow sunlight energy in his muscles)

Good point, Steve.

To me, Chris is the perfect size, Chris Reeves and Brandon Roth were averaged sized athletic people. They had muscle but they were ridiculously huge. I mean, they're playing the Man of Steel and they while they had some build, they were super huge.

I think in this "realistic" universe Marvel has created, they are going with that same concept like what Reeves and Roth brought to their Superman roles.

He looks like a twig. His arms would have to be six times larger for him to properly portray the god of Thunder,

Just six??

I'll put it out there - if Hemsworth doesnt go on the 'roids and give himself significant kindey failure and mental health problems as a result, it clearly shows that he's not committed to this role.

Man, if Hemsworth doesn't find the Mjollnir between now and shooting, Marvel is going to have a ***** of a time recasting for a 'roid abusin' dude that's at least 6 times bigger than Hemsworth.

Because it would look bad otherwise. Like comics, film is an extremely visual medium. "Strong looking" superhero types are drawn big for a reason. Their physical size is impressive, people naturally draw a parallel between size and strength. When you see an image of Superman or Thor in the comics, you're meant to think "body builder, wrestler, athlete, strong"; it's a huge visual cue. Also, humans automatically recognize physical proportions and relative height as indicators of strength and even overall attractiveness in males (actual or fictional). Its true that Superman and Thor don't get strength from the size of their muscles its important to portray them that way. Also that's the reason why a lot of early superheroes were drawn with "trunks" over their pants, it was a look that resembled what weight lifters and other strong men were wearing at the time.

You also have to visually distinguish them from members of their own group who they are supposed to be stronger than. Even though Fendrall is plenty strong by human standards, he's not compared to Thor so it only makes sense to make Thor look stronger.

Unless a character is specifically supposed to look unassuming but be super strong it only makes sense to make them huge, seeing is half the battle.

This can be modified a bit for movies since comic book physiques are definitely exaggerated compared to real ones. But Thor should be the "strongest looking" guy on screen since he is more often than not, the strongest character in the scene.... as long as Hemswoth looks "strong" compared to most other males in real life, people won't want to roll their eyes at his feats of strength, understanding that it is supernatural strength.

The dude is in fine shape, Thor looks like he does in the comic for a reason, it's a comic, the guys are suppose to be ridiculously huge and the girls ridiculously hot. No actor is going to spend over a year bulking up coz that's how long it would take to get that massive, unless a few substances are included. Not only that, to lose all that size is equally hard.

Wrestling fans dont count as "people".

Don't be too hard on the wrestling fans, I don't think that's who Chewy was referring to. I believe he was talking about the guy who came onto the thread earlier, and said that if Chris Hemsworth didn't take steroids to bulk up for Thor, it showed he wasn't committed to the role, and he should be fired and replaced with someone who was willing to take steroids to look bigger.

heck i am a wrestling fan but i agree i dont need to have a super riod guy for a thor or cap america and all that.

pretty sure he was being sarcastic

Fat Tonie is being sarcastic, sure, but I believe he's parodying a different poster who was in the thread earlier, who was quite serious in pursuing that particular argument.

oh right, well you get those militant fanboys around these here parts lol.

god some people just can't accept things have to be lost in translation.

yea boy we fans are a crazy bunch at times. Hard to please the masses it seems these days for comic movies.

Yea seriously. The comics are exactly that, comics. Not real life. The physiques are exaggerated.

And like I've said before, Hemsworth looks like a linebacker, that's big enough for Thor.

That seems to happen a lot on movies. Although, really, I guess it's no different from any kind of workplace.

Whatever, good for them.

^Oh my if this is true I hope it wont affect movie. ( Natalie mad because Chris is making out with Jaime ) Makes for bad chemistry if you ask me.

I'm sure they're all mature and professional enough that it won't be a problem.
