hehe yea. I dunno how many times we've been over this but comic book characters are comic book characters. The way they are drawn is impossible to achieve in real life, especially for guys like Thor. Unless of course you want a steroid pumped wrestler who can't act!

So in fact, NOT impossible to achieve in real life at all.
And you don't have to take steroids either.

Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman are two guys who successfully replicated their comicbook counterparts physiques.

While Hemsworth may be 250llbs and able to 'swat' Bale, the fact is he does not have the same level of bulk that Bale had in BB. Bale was a monster in that film.

It's not necessarily gonna be a deal breaker for me... but I would like to see Hemsworth more bulky. Dolph Lundgren for example; -back in the day he had the perfect Thor Physique.

Hahaha, I had the same reaction to that pic. We're clearly not getting a good sense of his size when we see pictures of just him by himself. Scaled against normal-sized people, the man is a bloody titan!

And Hemsworth in A Perfect Getaway was about the same size as Bale in Batman Begins, so now that he's bulked up further he'll be larger than Bale

Well, even though he's wearing a top, you can clearly see added muscle-mass on Hemsworth in the Red Dawn set pics. It's there for all to see, the biceps and chest areas are comparible in size to Bale in the above pic [all the more impressive considering Hemworth has about 4 inches on Bale], and as we have seen from the Perfect Getaway sceencap, CH was already in possession of a decent back (consisting of mass and cuts - a quality thats hard to achieve).

And this is was all before his Thor weight training regimine started, so the guy will look even bigger now. But something tells me, from your post, that you'll disregard all of this. I dunno - just a hunch.

I do, however, agree with what you say when you say that Dolph Lundgren circa 1986/7 was visually perfect for Thor, but that was then and this is now. Not only does the guy playing Thor have to sumwhat look the part, he also has to be able to act to a sufficient standard too.

I'm willing to trade off a bit of muscle mass if it means Hemsworth can fulfill the dramatic side of the role; and considering that he apparently 'blew Branagh away' with his audition, it looks like thats what may happen.

It's naive to think every buff guy is on steroids.
It's not like it's impossible to become big and ripped without them.

I've read interviews w/ Lundgren and he comes across as a genuine when talking about his training methods and diet.

Why would I disregard this? From the pics Hemsworth looks good. If he managed to get anymore mass after that before filming Thor that would be great. Too bad he ain't got long hair huh?

If they pull this off, and it's as good as Iron Man they better not drop the ball w/ Cap.
Then Avengers, that's not gonna be easy to orchestrate but it could be the greatest Superhero film ever.

yea chris is tall and has a good wide frame already. Plus we know from the time he was filming red dawn/getting thor and not thor filming he bulked up alot more. He is probably going to look just fine once we get first in costume photos of him on thor sets and all that. As for hair sure it would have been nice if he was able to grow out his hair naturally for the role. But due to red dawn filming so close to thor start up it wasnt able to happen. i am sure any wigs/hair extensions will look good.

I hope they go for a wig rather than hair extensions. Extensions always look awkward as hell to me, like a super-mullet.

Yeah, plus with extensions, you can kinda tell where the actors natural hair ends and the new hair begins depending on a) the quality of the job (which shouldnt be a problem for an 'a' list production) b) the lighting and closeness of shots and c) the colour of the actors hair, with it being noticable more in lighter colour hair than dark.

No I'd not seen those pics, I think this film has got a lot of potential. The guy who is playing Loki is perfect;- he's got that whole weasely face going on. Re: Hopkins, while he's a fine actor, that one is a bit strange to me because in the books Odin is always this huge imposing figure, and well, Hopkins is not.

I didn't know that about Dolph, but I'll take ur word for it.
I know Arnie took roids as a bodybuilder, but Sly still claims to have never taken steroids, although we all know he takes other performance enhancing 'supplements'.

I'm sure they'll give it a natural color. It's not gonna be a cheap dollar-store wig that's more yellow than blonde or anything.

Bale was dwarfed by Neeson and Freeman in Begins so if Hemsworth is 6'4 I doubt people should be worrying that he isn't big enough, and in the costume you wont even be able to tell. I don't know why a lot of people on this board seem to be obsessed with the height and size issue because I bet most people on this message board aren't exactly the peak physical specimens. I've seen people who are 6'3 and probably a little less then 200 pounds and there massive.
