I never understood why fanboys are so paranoid about the actors not being in shape for the role. They do this kind of stuff all the time. They will be in shape.

Was he scrawny? I remember him being tall and in good shape, at least. I never got the sense that Colossus was particularly gigantic in the comics anyway. A little bit above-average in height and build is all.

He was a decent size. I wish they would have made him a bit bigger when he changed form. That's how I always picture it happening when he does it in the comics.

The taller people get, the harder it is to get big muscles, because longer limbs mean longer muscles. A lot of weight needs to be gained to get huge at 6'9. Anyone that tall and as big as Colossus is in that picture would be absolutely enormous in real life, and would therefore appear as such in a live-action movie.
