Justice League Ciaran Hinds is Steppenwolf

So...

[BLACKOUT]after seeing part of the post-credits scene, I change my position that Eisenberg might have made a good Luthor if they went with a more classic interpretation. He will NEVER play a good Lex Luthor. Even if you put him in a suit, shave his head and stick him in a ritzy yacht, he still comes off like a dweeby hipster *****e. He's awful, and while I really want to see a Deathstroke movie, I don't need to see anything else followed up on from that scene.[/BLACKOUT]

[BLACKOUT]Yeah I felt the same way. He kind of looked like Lex, but the voice and his line delivery just kills it. [/BLACKOUT]

The problem is that Eisenberg can't act. So, when not doing a quirky, awkward or/and annoying character he doesn't work.

After all the hooplah about the villain, I thought he was alright. Absolutely forgettable, yes. Ineffective as any semblance of a threat, sure. Bad? Nah, I wouldn't say so. Ciaran did fine.

It's absolutely fitting for what amounts to a Saturday morning episode of the Justice League Adventures.

I feel like they made a good decision going with a relatively unknown villain in the comic book universe, this let the characters have more screen time meaning I'm not utterly disappointed that he didn't have more time.

If they had Darkseid in there instead of Steppenwolf I would have been really pissed the lack of depth they gave him, but since it's steppenwolf i'm okay with it.

Steppenwolf was a joke, "End of Worlds" my foot Superman made him his b****.

They went from Doomsday to this guy? Lmao

lthe cgi was terrible, but the dialogues were great

"when he mentionned WW sisters blood on his axe, or his reply to that guy who said " we have families"

and people who said he was weak , yeah that why it took Superman to defeat him right ?

how it supposed to be noted if we based this on a avenger's ultron level of vilain again ? cause this robotic stuff was bloody awful but his dialogue were great, just like steppenwolf

overall both franchise have Vilains Issues even tho i liked Ares on WW

cant wait for thanos, he supposed to be this huge guy crushin the avengers, well we'll see about that one .

It was also a waste of Ciaran Hinds, who's a great actor (seriously watch him as Julius Caesar in HBO's Rome series, he's amazing there). And here, they gave him a nothing role to play.

I don’t think the cgi was bad on steppenwolf.
It looked fine too me.

I think he was a decent villain.
No worse than the average CBM villain.

Yeah. And the LOTR troll actually looked better, despite the movie coming out 16 years ago.

Doomsday was fine as a secondary villain. Steppenwolf is a secondary villain posing as a main one.

I still think he could've worked a whole lot better if they'd just used makeup instead of CGI. It could've "easily" been done.

Isn't this the same company that did the effects for the newer Planet of the Apes films? Because if so, WOW what happened? The difference in quality is staggering.

Also I don't buy, given how he's characterized here, that the JL would have such trouble with him (but Superman alone didn't apparently).

Main problem is he had no one to bounce off. He didn't have a second in command to have actual dialogue with. He didn't even really have a villain monologue to the heroes. We never get a real sense of who he is or what he's about.

Haven't seen it myself yet, but friends who have mentioned similar feelings. Having a "lieutenant" to interact with would've helped somewhat; someone like Devilance the Pursuer could have been an interesting Apokoliptian foil for Steppenwolf.

Edit: Actually some variant of the Canis Major, and his son Canis Minor, story would've been neat, though probably would be too much backstory to squeeze in here.

Steppenwolf was only marginally better than having no villain at all, and just leaving a blank space on the screen - or showing the motion-capture guy in his grey skin-tight suit.

Steppenwolf wasn't a complete tragedy imo, but not very interesting. The cgi was fine aside from some facial animation, but he should've been an actor in makeup with cgi enhancement. We spend hardly any time with him to develop his character and we are only given snippets of his motivation. He could've been widely more interesting if we were able the delve more into backstory and his relationship with Darkseid.

Agreed 100%.

We should've seen the character in a flashback being kicked off of Apokolips or something. What has he even been doing all this time? Sleeping?

The one cool thing about Steppenwolf is that we got to see him fighting multiple Justice League members at once. That was one thing the Avengers films missed.

I see Steppenwolf as being strong enhancement talent gussied up to look like a monster heel: he's more functional than fabulous, if that makes sense. He's big and strong enough to require a Aquaman and Wonder Woman to tag team him before Superman gets involved, commands forces and weaponry enough to necessitate the JL's formation, and has enough characterization to paint himself as evil but connect to our darker impulses and vision. He's not a nightmare, but he's an unsettling dream, with classic vices mixing with corrupted virtues.

His breakdown at the end is very nice, as are his lack of understanding for the value of family among humans. In a way, he has enough pathetic and pitiable features to make me think they were painting some of Apokilips's culture in him; while his desires and ruthlessness were monstrous, it felt more like a skewed cultural-grasp of morality rather than inborn sociopathy.

But at the end of the day, he is easily upstaged by the team, which is good, and his power level being eclipsed by Superman sells Superman's power and place on the team. He's also being set up as a step over which Darkseid and others can pass pretty easily to take on the whole league.

I wasn't totally impressed.
I found Lex to be a better villain than Steppenwolf.
Lex was able to bring Superman to his knees. Steppenwolf could not.

Which is why people can feel however they want to about Jesse,
but I maintain the position of his Lex Luthor being a really great villain.
