Justice League Ciaran Hinds is Steppenwolf

Was Steppenwolf complete CGI? If so I really don't see why since everything about the character could've been done old school and enhanced with CGI.

Steppenwolf looks 100% CGI , I guess there making the denizens of Apokolips more monstrous and alien looking than they're usually portrayed.

I wasnt expecting a ton of depth out of Steppenwolf. All i want is him to be a crazy powerful son of a ***** who gives the League a run for their money...until Superman comes in and shows him who's boss.

Yeah, I think that’s why they picked such an onscure villain for this... it’s simply because he’s not significant. He’s a one-and-done baddie whose appearance foreshadows a much more prominent villain down the road (Darkseid).

I just wish he looked better. They really should have gone the mo-cap route because his movements don’t look natural.

My first major interaction with the character was during the New52 E2 series where he made a really great villain. So itll suck to see him wasted from the sounds of it,

But he is a character that would probably be better suited for a tv show big bad.

I'm kinda let down by his look. Let's hope they don't ruin Orion, Highfather, Lightray, Big Barda etc.. and make them huge CGI monsters.

I'm not expecting him to be super deep, but I like my villains to have substance.
However powerful he is, I just don't want him to be portrayed as a mindless brute.

That's one of the reasons why I actually did love Lex Luthor in BvS.
He wasn't physically imposing in any way, but his intelligence was frightening.
I feel like people don't give Jesse enough credit for his performance.

Lex was awful.

Yep.

Luthor is my favorite super villain of all time and I feel like it’s really difficult to make a good Superman movie without him involved in some capacity. But I have to say that I’d be fine with never seeing this Luthor again. And if we do, I’m hoping for a recast.

What’s strange though is that I feel like Eisenberg COULD have made a good Luthor. He has at least a couple of scenes in The Social Network that made me think he could play a cold blooded, ruthless genius. Instead, we got a *****ebag doing a bad impression of the Riddler or something.

I'm surprised Whedon didn't try to tweak his design some to maybe have the lava effect appear throughout his suit.

I don't believe that Eisenberg could ever be a good Luthor, and strongly think that it was a rather awful casting choice. Because Eisenberg can only do Eisenberg.

Zod is literally the only villain in DCEU franchise that they nailed! Its the only one, that is memorable and had some charisma about him!...Michael Shannon did the character justice (no pun intended!...)...As for others Enchantress is well...played by Delevigne it should tell everything already...while i admit her design kinda looked cool, but her performence is ewww...Joker is also awful, Ares is meh, So are that general guy in his gas mixing lady protege, Doomsday is a stupid cave troll, that escaped video game - Skyrim! And Luthor is probably cringiest of them all! And now Steppenwolf...Maybe Doctor Sivanna or Black Manta will break the curse finally?...Fingers crossed! At least they are next in line...so its they turn to suck...or not at long last!...

The bottom line with Eisenberg was that watching him perform and listening to him talk was extremely irritating. It was so unreal. Constantly quoting greek history and other myths. He was almost Shakespearian in a way. This guy got on my nerves.

I usually hate it when they recast a character in a franchise, but if they just tone his character down a little, and be the evil, but serious Lex Luthor we all know him to be, then maybe he can earn the role to Lex Luthor. Maybe I will be more open to his presence.

Face it though, and my God, anyone else think that Clancy Brown's Luthor or even Michael Rosenbaum would be annoyed by Eisenberg Lex?

They really need to stop him from acting so dramatic for a better lack of word. "The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world! Son of Krypton versus Bat of Gotham! Black and Blue...Fight Night!"

(May not have been in that particular order but whatever)...he was just annoying. My friends who are Superman fans but aren't familiar with Lex Luthor referred to Eisenberg as "that kid?" when watching BvS.

I'm looking forward to Steppenwolf. He looks intimidating. I don't care if he's all CGI. I like his voice. As long as he's intimidating and poses as a real threat, then I'm sold.

Eisenberg's Lex did pose as a threat more or less, but damn, they had to take his methods too far. He was driven as a psychopath which was a problem. Insecure and insane. Mentally ill.

Well should that a be a fitting description for Lex? Mentally ill, and a psychopath, well, pretty much, but he should act sane on the outside.

Thats my want and expectation too. I just a super intimidating, tough as **** bad guy. Someome that actually could give Superman and WW a hard time. Sometimes thats all thats needed to make a great villain.

My #1 favorite movie villain of all time is the T-1000. Why? Because the mother****er was a serious threat. Your heart skipped a beat everytime he entered the room. And the character had virtually no dialogue or development, he was a robot with a singular mission and it worked.

Yup! This is also why I loved the Winter Soldier as the villain.

100% agree.

So...

[BLACKOUT]after seeing part of the post-credits scene, I change my position that Eisenberg might have made a good Luthor if they went with a more classic interpretation. He will NEVER play a good Lex Luthor. Even if you put him in a suit, shave his head and stick him in a ritzy yacht, he still comes off like a dweeby hipster *****e. He's awful, and while I really want to see a Deathstroke movie, I don't need to see anything else followed up on from that scene.[/BLACKOUT]

I like the Wonder Woman villains more than most. Ludendorff and Dr. Poison were fun in a campy sort of way (but of course neither was all that deep as a character). And Ares had somewhat interesting motivations (and I like how David Thewlis portrayed him). But the movie wanted to play it up as a "twist/reveal" meant that we didn't get to spend a lot of time with him as an actual villain, which blunted the impact somewhat.

Yeah, I liked Wonder Woman's villains. They weren't perfect but I enjoyed them. My only nitpick was that I didn't like Thewlis still having his mustache when he made his Ares transformation.

It's become a moustache centric last two films. :woot:

I loved Eisenberg's Lex Luthor.
It worked for the film, and for this universe.
The "Problems Up Here" scene, alone, is what does it for me.

He was menacing in his own way.
It wasn't your typical characterization of Lex Luthor, but it didn't have to be.

I haven't read too deeply about whether or not he was in JL,
but if he is, then I'm definitely looking forward to his appearance.

Steppenwolf is exactly what I thought he would be. At best he's serviceable, at worst he's as forgettable as Malekith.

There is one thing seriously bugging me though...

I remember Ciaran Hinds' interview about the character where he expressed that he was trying to escape enslavement by Darkseid, yet none of that is in the movie and he had no issue with allying himself with his nephew.

Was this an original motivation for the character that ultimately got scrapped, or did it end up in the cutting room floor like I assume 35% of the original cut has?
