Justice League Ciaran Hinds is Steppenwolf

For me it’s not terrible CGI but it’s not great either, it’s somewhere in the middle but probably not enough to take me out of the movie.

Because those visuals are what some people want. It's like a comic book ripped straight from the page. Some of us love that. Others don't. It's not that hard to understand that some people have a different taste.

My mistake. I guess I should do a better job of understanding people want fake looking CGI.

I loved how Doomsday looked in the actual film even though I thought he looked weak in the trailers. Steppy looks alright, but hoping for better on the big screen.

Also, y'all know Snyder ain't the one choosing the VFX house right?

Maybe not, but the CGI looks the same in nearly all of his movies.

Criticizing people who like film effects that you don't really doesn't put you in a good spot, buddy. That condescending attitude doesn't help either.

With Snyder, it's a given that this point that people who don't like his visual style will continue to not like it and those who do probably don't have a problem with how JL looks.

Sometimes directors go for practical effects, but producers come in and replace them with CG in post.

Thats pretty interesting - it is mind blowing looking at the video and seeing how much work / effort and how many moving parts going into a movie.

All for us to complain about one little thing haha

Yep, the director does have control over art style and its rendering. They have to sign off on it.

There’s about 6 or so “main” VFX companies who are responsible for 95% of the CG you see in movies today. Even between the same company, you’ll see variances. That’s not by happenstance.

Give this same JL team to someone like James Cameron? One, say goodbye to the 2017 release date. But more importantly, expect some cutting edge stuff.

I could see what some people were saying about the cgi in some of the earlier footage, Cyborg looked unfinished, Steppenwolf looked video gamey and unfinished, but the latest footage from the spots and released clips they both look fantastic in my opinion. Steppenwolf looks a lot better than he did in the overseas released clip we seen only last week I think it was.

I just have an issue with his face.
It doesn't look very lifelike from the clip that I saw.

Of course, they could have made improvements for the release.

Bad = Snyder
Good = Not Snyder

I thought that was the motto?:o

Really depressing. Those same FX artists had their work ruined in I Am Legend as well. Well they bowed out of that one, but they did some good early work on it and found out the studio wanted to do those crappy CGI vampires.

I'm sorry. You can't tell me those vampires in 2007 I Am Legend movie look good.

No argument there. They look preeeeeeeetty bad. :funny:

Plus they ruined the whole point of the story with the changed ending.

That I would agree with. Actually, I think Snyder’s surrealist style worked in that movie. But I don’t think it works as well for something like Batman or Superman. Yes, they’re all comic books but Watchmen is so much more warped (despite taking place in a world that overall is probably more realistic than the traditional DC universe).

I think Snyder's aesthetics and color correction choices are great for Batman atmosphere (muddy, stormy and gritty look; a bit undersaturated but with enough contrasts and blacks to make the colour count); and really think they missed a great oportunity not making Superman (by contrast), make its own "light", make him somewhat more colourful and bright like they did with Dr. Manhattan particularly. I remember reading Azzarello/Bermejo's LL MoS and how they approached that visual characterization (this comic also portrays Superman rendition from LL pov, constantly watchful with his all-powerful, all-seeing gaze; unstoppable... just superb).

It would lively uplift the divine imagery and rendition Superman gets constantly in modern media. Something beyond humanity, strange but encompassing.

Oh my, where is the budget?

those cgi effort are no where near the top notch, but to say they are 'terrible' or 'bad' ???

I think the issue is that they’ve spent something like $300 million on this movie. With that kind of money, the lead villain at the very least should look better.

Have we got confirmation of that or is that just from the usual rumor **********?

Haven't seen that Steppenwolf clip til now. The CGI could be a tad better, but I have a bigger issue with the character rigging/movement; it's too choppy/stiff.

My uneducated guess is they didn’t use performance capture and just animated Steppenwolf which could explain why he looks “off”.

Sounds like he is a bit of a disappointment which is a shame.

Overall though I will make my own mind up.

Expecting him to be a serviceable villain. Nothing more, and nothing less.

Was anyone ever expecting anything special out of Steppenwolf? I'm sure if I had polled a thousand DC fans about their ideal choice of villain for a first Justice League movie, Steppenwolf wouldn't have been anywhere on the list of responses.

He sounds like he fills the function needed of him. A strong alien bad guy who forces the team to unite. That's all I need right now.
