^ I'm opposite.Back in the eighties he did good work on a few GI Joes and his work on Hulk was great. It wasnt until his run on Spiderman and later Spawn that I started to dislike his approach. He takes too many liberties with his panels and splash pages. He needs a good editor to rein in his creativity and tighten things up.

Not much an editor could "rein him in" on now; he's a rich man. The latter approach to creativity worked in his favor but hey, to each his own I guess...

Forgive me but I don't recall what his G.I. Joe looked like; I never bought the mag.

IMO, Todd Mac improved alot from his Spider-Man days. In defense of the naysayers, a good inker & colorist can always make the average penciller looks more than formidible...

Just depends on what you want to see.

^ yeah, remember those Liefelds we saw a few months ago--it's all in the coloring. like the use you make of something, not the size of it. ahem.

I don't care if Alex Ross was painting over Liefeld's pencils...it's still the equivelant of waxing a turd.

That guy's work has always sucked to me.

That being said, I love McFarlane's early Spawn work.

just like McFarlane's to me :oldrazz: (it never ends!)

What if you had a great comic script and both of these two guys were available to pencil it for you...who's the lesser evil to hire? :woot:

:cmad: grr I hate those extreme scenarios

I dont know about all that,. A great colorist couldn't fix all those Liefeld jellyfish spined contortionist women with ***** feet.

And your Mac example goes to what I'm saying.I think Todd can be much greater if there was someone standing behind him with a stick pokin' him in the head "Get it together crazy!"
Here you have a two panel half-a-splash , with no sequential story to speak of.He's more than competent as an artist. But with complete creative control, ^thats the result.

Liefield is just a bad artist, no matter what he might have some decent images every now and then but mostly it's just bad, Now McFarlene's work is decent, his Spiderman stuff is okay, but his Spawn work is pretty cool.

I'm not a fan of the Fantastic Four but this here cover points out all the stupidity of comic books in the 90's

ff_375_2-1.jpg

-Big frickin' guns for the FF who already have powers
-The obligatory leather jackets with pouches of course
-Susan Storm with ****ty outfit showing cleavage
-Awful gimmicky covers (glow in the dark, die-cut, holofoil, polybagged)

You're absolutely right! This is an outrage!

Where the hell is Johnny's gun? And don't try to tell me he and Sue have more than ten pouches!

That page is ****ing terribly constructed.

Why is the Thing wearing a mask/helmet? Is there some other orange brick guy out there he gets confused with? And what is that thing between Sue and Ben, a broken cog wheel?

I think it's Ben's ammo belt?

Also, for how long were there six people in the Fantastic Four? Because I'm sorry, that's completely ****ing dumb. How hard is it to change the title of a comic to Spectacular Six for a little while?

That, we'll agree on. As I posted earlier, you cannot polish a turd. Especially when the feces is Liefeld's art. :whatever:

Yeah, I expected some would think so; I don't know...I kinda like it.

McFarline has some amazing designs and concepts, but most of his artwork when it comes to page after page of comics isn't too good imo. Some of his single shot concept arts or just random poses he draws of random guys look amazing.

And that FF cover...why the hell does Johnny have a jacket on? And for that matter, what is is made out of, the same stuff their suits are made of? Why the hell?

Why doesn't Ben have a jacket? I mean even Reed has a vest.:o

^^^Jackets and multi-pouched harnesses were the thing back in the 90s. :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

on closer inspection..

I'd say Ben's emulating some mexican wrestler :hehe:

and that girl on the left.. she's holding the gun weirdly

plus, that tagline on top--THIS IS NOT YOUR PARENTS' COMIC MAGAZINE! ()

Errr...why the hell have the FF got guns?

That Spawn page is pretty cool IMO. Spawn is one of my favourite comics.

I like the Spawn page too: the bricks look outstanding.
