Contest of Marvels II Thread 3

Gorgon
Jean Grey
Air-Walker
Patriarch

Note: I was going to make a comment about how after rereading Mutant X lately, Goblin Queen probably shouldn't be in this tournament... but I actually strongly feel that Gorgon actually has a chance to beat her in this. Good debate Phaed.

Gorgon - Just needs to lose the glasses.
Jean Grey
Air-Walker
Moonstone - My pick, since she has greater versatility, and maybe even more power.

Results So Far:

Gorgon currently beating Goblin Queen 4-2
Jean Grey currently beating X-Ray 6-0
Air-Walker currently beating Purple Man 6-0
Patriarch currently beating Moonstone 5-1

Goblin Queen (very close match. Back and forth on this one)
Jean Grey
Air-Walker (bad matchup)
Patriarch (very bad-ass)

Gorgon (his telepathy swung it for me)

Jean Grey (c'mon...it's Jean!)

Moonstone (Harl's pick)

Air Walker (Purple man could have gone all the way but he got screwed in the draw)

Final Results:
Gorgon beat Goblin Queen 6-3
Jean Grey beat X-Ray 9-0
Air-Walker currently beating Purple Man 9-0
Patriarch currently beating Moonstone 6-3

Ultimus (PHAEDRUS45) bio

VS.

Kitty Pryde (JEWISHHOBBIT) bio

Location: Alcatraz

Alcatraz
Californian island prison, operational 1859-1963, held superhuman criminals in the 1940's. First appeared in Marvel Mystery Comics #25 (1941).

(This is probably going to be just your basic prison. Figure you are going to expect what you'd see in our world, unless anyone comes up with information different in their research. It will be in today's time; so, the basic prison stands, but it's been a tourist spot for some time. Also, nobody really has to worry about security features, like we've had with previous prisons. Also, you can go outside the prison; you just can't leave the island. Flight is possible, but within reason, as JH stated. Let's say 1/4 of a mile in the air is alright.)

Ultimus vs. Kitty Pryde:

Just like JewishHobbit last week feeling bad about taking out Nico Minoru, I hate to eliminate one of my favorite characters, Kitty Pryde. When I first got into comics, she was one of the featured characters in X-Men 150-152; those issues got me hooked on the X-Men forever. (It's funny how people age in comics. I think she was about 13 in that issue; yet, now she's a woman engaging in sexual activity, while everyone else has hardly aged at all.) I can still picture the cover of issue #151, packing her bags and leaving.

Sadly, she'll be doing the same thing in Round 3: Packing her bags.

The bios.

Ultimus:

Powers: Superhuman strenght, speed, stamina, agility and reflexes, metahuman durability, besides the ability to manipulate cosmic energy

Also, the bio from the Official Marvel Handbook Master Edition on Ultimus:

"Ultimus has the ability to manipulate cosmic energy to augment his life force, granting him great longevity and regenerative abilities, the projection of cosmic energy as concussive bolts from his hands, the ability to project an invisible force field about his body varying from a radius of one-inch to several yards, the ability to fly by harnessing anti-gravitons, and possibly other powers."

Also, under Strength, it says he has "Superhuman Class 90" powers, under Speed and Stamina both say "Superhuman," and under Durability it says "Metahuman."

Kitty Pryde:

Kitty passes the molecules of her body through matter, rendering her insubstantial. This ability also allows her to "walk on air," and even "detach" herself from Earth's gravity and appear to fly off, as she stays stationary while the Earth rotates at up to 1,000 miles per hour. She can phase other people and objects along with herself, as well as only part of an object. Her phasing through any electronic equipment causes it to short-circuit. She has refined this ability to sometimes allow her to cut off a person's nervous system (which is electrical in nature).

Shadowcat is also a fully-trained ninja, thanks to Ogun, and is a computer and electronic hardware whiz

It's very unlikely that Kitty can hurt Ultimus. She obviously won't go so lethal on him as to kill him with her phasing powers. Plus, Ultimus can keep out of Kitty's reach by staying airborn. Meanwhile, Kitty's airborn tactics is more of a floating than fly; Ultimus would easily be able to avoid her.

This location doesn't do Kitty much good. The prison is old, and she will not be able to use her technical genius to it's fullest potential. Meanwhile, Ultimus can easily destroy the prison, fly around the outside, and eventually, Kitty has to stop phasing to breath. That will be all he has to wait for. (Plus, since Ultimus can control cosmic energies, it's possible that he can effect Kitty in some unknown way.)

Winner = Ultimus

BRACKET 6,

Match 1:

Emplate (AHURA MAZDA) bio

th_emplate.jpg

vs.

Quasar (WIEGEABO) bio

th_quasar.jpg

This will obviously be a very tough match, but it is not hopeless. Emplate has the ability to remain unsynched with reality and therefore Quasar cannot touch him unless Emplate attempts to touch him.

Now regarding prep time, neither character will know much of the other apart fom maybe a few offhand pieces of infomation. the key to this battle is whether Emplate can feed off of Quasar which would turn Quasar into his slave. he does have a chance to do this as he can track Quasar while being unsynched with reality and this is a closed prison island which is not that big.

Now with the element of suprise and his abilty to unsynch with reality and synch once Quasar's force field has been penetrated, he can feed off of Quasar which of course is not the same as feeeding off of a mutnat but would be good enough to win this match as it would make Quasar his slave.

Winner - Emplate

Quasar vs Emplate

Prep-time does nothing for either character. It's doubtful they'd find anything on the other. Likewise, location does nothing. There are plenty of places to hide, but Quasar wouldn't hide, and Emplate doesn't need to since he can be invisible.

That invisibility is Emplate's greatest advantage. But that's really all he has over Quasar. Emplate tracks mutants, Quasar isn't a mutant. Emplate needs to drain mutant marrow to stay in this plane of existance, Quasar still isn't a mutant.

So, in essence, all Quasar has to do is stay away, and Emplate will be sent back to the other dimension and lose the fight by ring-out. Of course, Quasar wouldn't know he just needs to stay away, but he doesn't need to. If the fight lasts long enough, Emplate will just run out of time.

Quasar's powers are more than enough to take out Emplate. One strong blast of quantum energy, and Emplate is out. Or he could imprison Emplate in a solid construct (eventually getting a ring-out when Emplate goes into the other dimension). Quasar can also keep a shield around himself that prevents Emplate from directly attacking him. And with his ability to manipulate quantum energy, it's possible that Quasar can 'detect' Emplate even if he is invisible.

This is just a case of Emplate being overpowered by someone he has little chance of even hurting.

Quasar wins

Victor Mancha Vs. Hisako Ichiki

This should be an interesting match mostly because it has "Sorta" been fought already. In Runaways Vol. II, Iss. 2, We get a flashback of Victorious (Victor's evil future self) in the process of defeating not only Heroine's Avengers, but also Hisako's X-Men. future Hisako states that her armor is weakened and can't take another hit.

I know what you're thinking "This didn't really happen" "Alternate timeline" "Piss-and-moan". and I'm not saying either of them are at those power levels. I'm using those power levels to guage where their power levels would currently be. at this point that we can extimate to be twenty years in the future, Victor would have had his powers for maybe sixteen years, while Hisako would have had hers for almost twenty, and he is far out of her league that he took out three whole teams, not just her. thus, thinking that he got his powers early, and has been working with them for roughly a year now, he's had time to get familiar with how they work, start experimenting with them, and figure out ways to win (much like he did with Swarm and the Gibborum)

Now prep time won't help either of them as neither could find out much about the other. Victor may find mentions of her as a mutant at Xavier's, but nothing useful. However, prep-time may be useful when it comes to the location. Victor can find out plans and layouts of Alcatraz, maybe even visit it (using the Leap Frog which he can pilot).

Strategy would be simple. keep Hisako at arms length until he can learn her powers, and come up with a workable strategy. I'd imagine that her joints are weak, he can try striking there, or work with metal that is already within her armor. a few coins striking her head at high speeds could knock her out. Plus there's always the possiblity of running a current through her armor and seeing what happens.

Sphinx Vs. Abyss

Prep-time helps no one. they are from different universes. The Sphinx can alter reality. game over. if Abys tries to swallow him, he'll punch a whole out of him, or time travel backwards so that he can escape.

OPENING COMMENTS: Hisako Ichiki vs Victor Mancha

Interesting match we've got here. Teenage runaway son of Ultron faces teenage X-Men wannabe (who, if we believe Runaways, will grow up to be the leader of the X-Men some day). Both are also quite frickin' powerful. Victor has electromagnetic abilities, as well as high intelligence and super strength. On the flip side, Hisako is also intelligent, and has a psionic body armor that can withstand quite a hit.

Neither has a prep-time advantage, and have no info on one another. They'll be able to look up info on Alcatraz though, and I will admit that's a wealth of resources for Victor's electromagnetic powers. Thing is though, they'll probably be wandering around quite a bit before they meet one another, and that's it up to the one who can hit the hardest at the right time.

That's Hisako. Not only will her armor withstand any hit Victor can deliver first, both will need to get close before they can really fight. Victor has some enhanced endurance, but a blow by Hisako will put him out cold just like anyone else. Brute strength wins out in this case. The fact that Victor can't directly affect Hisako's armor is just icing on the cake.

Rgarding prep time I agree with everything you say however your description of Emplate's powers are inaccurate. He is not just invisible, he is "out of synch with reality" somewhat like Zeitgast. Therefore none of Quasar's constructs or his blasts will touch Emplate or affect him.

Emplate can simply walk up to Quasar who will be looking for him and feed on him. One feeding would transform Quasar into his slave. This strategy is based on the fact that Quasar will not know at all what he is facing and as such will not know that he should avoid Emplate.

Emplate wins

Quasar is extremely battle experienced. Once he scans the island and find no trace of his opponent, he'll know that some type of invisibility is involved. So the safest option for Quasar is to take to the air. From there he'd be relatively safe (or at least more safe than staying on the ground) while he tries to figure out how to see through the invisibility. And while he may or may not do that, since Emplate is out of sync, Quasar can stay out of the fight long enough for Emplate's time in this dimension to run out, giving Quasar a win by ring out without even realizing it.

Furthermore, I haven't found anything that says Emplate's powers work on non-mutants. Emplate needs to drain mutant energy from their bone marrow. Can he transform a non-mutant into a slave, because it looks like all those that have been converted were mutants (like Synch). This means that, even if Emplate gets his hands on Quasar, Quasar can last out with full power against Emplate (since he'll no longer be out of sync). And that's all Qusar would really need since just weakening Emplate could result in him being sent to the other dimension.

That is not ging to be his instinct. He has no idea that Emplate will eventually revert back to his dimension. And by the way, the reverting can take days. It is not a matter of hours. Quasar will continue to search and if Emplate wants he could revert back and then become out of synch in an instant forcing Quasar to search the grounds of the prison which in an enclosed environment makes flight less of an advantage.

Here you go:

wikipedia said:
Emplate not only recruited mutants for his team but a human as well: a woman named Gayle Edgerton from Chamber's past. When Chamber's powers first manifested he had unintentionally paralyzed Gayle and Emplate offered her a chance for revenge, turning her into one of his vampiric minions.

He does not feed on humans generally as he prefers mutants but his powers are just as effective. And Quasar is a human.

Emplate wins

*Sphinx - (You debate, you win; but, I might need clarification from JH or Wiegeabo. I don't think we're allowed to change reality in this contest, as per one of our beginning rules to this contest. I know it's excluded from some characters, like Scarlet Witch; so, it stands to reason that Sphinx is not allowed to alter reality, either.)

*Hisako Ichiki - (Tough one for me. But, Hisako is really one of this contests underdogs who's making a name for himself.)

*Quasar - (While there are lots of questions about Emplate and his powers, it simply stands to reason from reading Quasar's series in the late 80's and early 90's that Emplate is simply out of his league with this match.)

Dude's got the serious mojo. Nice try, though.
