Contest of Marvels II Thread 4

Rachel Grey - I think she'll go quite a bit farther than Forge.
Magneto - His power and skill is his big advantage here.
Pulsar
Apocalypse

Super-Adaptoid - I am of mixed minds here because of super-adaptoid did scan Magneto for his powers wouldn't he have enough to keep himseléf together?

Maestro - Pulsar was ineefective against the Hulk and as such she is not likely to fair better against Maestro

Rachel Grey

Apocalypse - Her is outmatched I think

Final Results:

Rachel Grey defeats Forge 8-0
Magneto defeats Super Adaptoid 5-3
Maestro defeats Pulsar 5-3
Apocalypse defeats Her 6-2

Location: AVALON

Avalon was a fictional space station inhabited by the Acolytes, a cult devoted to Magneto and his views on human-mutant relations. It first appeared in the Fatal Attractions storyline in Marvel Comics's X-Men books.
Avalon was originally named Greymalkin, and was the property of Cable. An interesting part of Greymalkin's construction was its Professor, not to be confused with Professor X. Greymalkin faked its destruction when S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to take it over, dumping parts in the ocean and in X-force's base, but the remaining parts, including its core remained, now using cloaking to hide itself.
Magneto discovered the abandoned space-station, deactivated the Professor and used Shi'ar technology to expand it, turning it into his new base and sending out his new servant Exodus to bring worthy mutants to it. His first choice were several members of X-force, who had been students of Magneto when they were part of the New Mutants. X-force leader, Cable, followed them and managed to disable Avalon's teleportation system and copy the Professor from the core of the station into his own techno-organic bodyparts. Cable and his team escaped, but former New Mutants Rusty Collins and Skids remained on Avalon with Magneto.
Shortly afterwards, Magneto sent Exodus to bring his followers, the Acolytes, to Avalon as well. He declared that Avalon would be a safe heaven for all mutants, away from humanity. The X-Men battled Magneto and he was put into a coma. Exodus took over the leadership of the Acolytes and Avalon. The Acolyte Milan repaired the teleportation systems of Avalon.
Avalon was destroyed by a battle between Holocaust and Exodus. Exodus tried to gather the pieces of Avalon to rebuilt it shortly afterwards, but halted his plans when Joseph turned up, thinking that Joseph was Magneto. Pieces of Avalon and Greymalkin were later gathered by Cable to build the island of Providence, his current base of operations.
Avalon is also shown and is a level on the SNES Game X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse and on the Sega Genesis game X-Men 2: Clone Wars. In Magneto's ending in Marvel Super Heroes, he uses the Infinity Gauntlet to create a new Avalon, an entire moon to serve as a homeworld for Mutantkind.

OPENING COMMENTS: Thor vs Nick Fury

Nick Fury is awesome, and I know my opponent will be throwing up a heck of a debate, so I'm keeping this short. These guys know each other very well. Sadly, one's a god, the other's a mortal. A badass mortal, but a mortal nonetheless. The location provides no distinct advantage for Nick, and out of respect for Fury, Thor will make sure to make this fast and painless.

Sersi (KYTRIGGER) bio

th_Sersi.jpg

vs.

Selene (KYTRIGGER) bio

th_selene.jpg

I honeslt yhave no idea who I should take in this match as to me it seems like an awesome fight.

Powers:

Sersi:
Cosmic Energy Manipulation: Sersi can manipulate cosmic energy, projecting beams of force, heat, or light from her eyes and hands.
Strength: Sersi has superhuman strength which she can increase to unknown levels.
Flight: Sersi, like all Eternals, has mastered the art of flight.
Illusion Generation: Sersi is able to generate illusions that affect all five human senses.
Invulnerability: Sersi is resistant against cold, disease, electricity, energy, heat, radiation and toxin attacks. She does not age, and can only be killed if her atoms are scattered.
Levitation: Sersi can levitate herself and up to seven others.
Matter Transmutation: Sersi is the only living Fifth Level adept at matter transmutation (on a 1-5 scale). She has an unearthly ability to alter molecular and atomic structures, allowing her near-unlimited power in altering all forms of matter, including living organisms. However, she has expressed difficulty in rearranging sub-atomic matter.
Mind Control: Sersi can control the minds of Eternals, Deviants, and humans.
Telekinesis: Sersi can telekinetically manipulate objects and generate a force field.
Telepathy: Sersi can communicate telepathically, though she can not mentally read the mind of any Deviant.
Teleportation: Sersi can teleport herself and others, but risks becoming paralysed in pain at her destination.
Uni-Mind: Sersi, like all Eternals, can join the Uni-Mind.

Selene:

  • Telepathy: Selene's telepathy allows her to blend her own psychic signature into the background thoughts around her, making her difficult for other psionics to locate or track. Selene is not as powerful as other high-order telepaths such as Professor Xavier or Jean Grey, and is vulnerable to psionic attack should she be located. She often uses her telepathy to induce a hypnotic trance in others, and then slips away at superhuman speed, leaving them with the impression that she simply vanished.
  • Telekinesis/psychokinesis: She is able to levitate herself and others using this ability, but cannot fly like other telekinetics. She can also create powerful telekinetic shields around herself. Selene can psychokinetically manipulate inorganic matter on a molecular level, levitating and animating nearly anything within her line of sight, or reducing objects to dust at will. The maximum amount of matter she can mentally lift (press) is unknown.
  • Flame manipulation: Selene can control (but not create) fire. Whether this is a facet of her psychokinesis or a separate power is not clear.
  • Immortality: While not indestructible, Selene's body will always reconstitute itself given due time. She appears to be immune to most forms of conventional injury; she has survived both a knife wound and a crossbow bolt to her heart with no apparent strain or lasting effect. She also once survived and recovered completely from complete molecular discorporation, though it took considerable time to reconstitute herself.
  • Absorption of life-essences: This restores Selene to a youthful and healthy appearance when she has been injured (or when she over-exerts her other powers) and sustain her centuries-long life. A side-effect of this process is that Selene remembers the life of anyone she absorbs. Beings from whom Selene drains life essence from typically die and crumble to dust in seconds, but she can choose to take only a small portion of her victim's energies, thereby subverting them to her will.
  • Selene can enhance her physical strength, durability and speed to superhuman levels using the absorbed life energies that sustain her. She can physically lift somewhere between 900 pounds and 2 tons. The amount of energy she has retained from her victims does seem to correlate somewhat with her physical strength and resilience. Selene can momentarily move at superhuman speeds rivaling those of Quicksilver, though this requires a heavy expenditure of energy and can cause her to age rapidly and require more life energy immediately.
  • In recent years, Selene has proven able to disguise her appearance, though this may be a function of her telepathic power, a magical skill, or a combination of the two.
  • Earlier in her appearances she attempted to turn both Danielle Moonstar and Rachel Summers into her heirs or proteges, perhaps implying she can transform other beings into life-force vampires such as herself.
  • The extent of Selene's sorcerous powers is unknown but presumed to be vast. She was considered a threat to Kulan Gath, himself an ancient sorcerer of immense mystical power. To incapacite her, Gath once magically erased Selene's mouth and fingers, implying that her sorcerous power is dependent on speech or physical gestures.
  • In more recent appearances Selene has been depicted as a being of semi-substantial living darkness, able to appear and disappear at will and imprison people in the dark energy she is composed of.

Obviously both have a great set of powers and are very diverse and both can get info on most opponents. Sersi has more feats to her name since she has been written about more, but Selene is an evil ***** that is willing to kill and can heal herself.

There would probably be less info on Selene than Sersi since Sersi was an Avenger.

This might end up coming down to who and where they will be fighting next.

Nick Fury vs Thor

Against any other mortal on Earth, Thor would be the odds-on favorite to win. But this is Nick Fury, the man with more access to information and resources than pretty much anyone else on Earth.

Location favors neither since Thor wouldn't worry about using the technology and Fury may not be able to. Although, with the technology he has access to, Nick may be able to use the station. And if he can, it helps Nick greatly.

Prep-time favors Nick. As much as Thor knows about Nick, Fury can access every bit of information about Thor that anyone has. Every method known that can beat Thor, Nick can access. And he can bring that technology with him into the match.

If any man can beat Thor, it's Nick Fury. He's got the knowledge, the tech, and the will to go as far as necessary to win. It's a matter of survival, and nick won't will do anything and everything to move on.

He'll have to get to the station first, and Thor won't just be waiting around for Nick to hit him. He'll go to the station (which one can easily see from the air), because he knows there's where Nick will go.

Except there's very little tech that beats Thor. It's usually magic. Then there's the question of whether Nick has access to that technology. He's got resources, but he can't get everything and y'know tech that can hurt Thor will be very rare.

And Thor knows Nick is that kind of man and deeply respects and honours him. So you know, he's going to wait Nick out and make it quick, out of respect.

This sounds like Thor will go to the station first by flying up to it because he can see it. But that's not allowed. No prep-time visits to the battlefield.

They'll both appear on the station when the battle starts. And there's no telling where they will be in relation to one another. Because he doesn't want to harm Nick, Thor can't risk ripping through floors and wall to find him (he may hurt Nick directly, or compromise station integrity). He'll have to look for Fury the long way, giving Nick plenty of time to setup whatever he needs (like station defenses).

Characters shouldn't have access to a lot of things, but they always seem to (well, not always, but enough times). And Nick is the kind of paranoid agent that would keep everything he needs around him to take down his biggest enemies or those closest to him who may go rogue. Technological, magical, or whatever.

Nick probably has similar feelings about Thor (honor and respect). But this is a matter of survival. And Fury will do anything and everything to survive, including sacrificing a friend/ally. Thor's desire to hold back could be his downfall as Nick hits him hard with everything he's got.

I have to apologize here. I was mixing it up with Savage Land because of my BP rematch. It got me confused for a second there. This point can be ignored, although Thor's obviously going to go for the centre of the station, because he'll know that'll be where Nick is heading.

Examples? I know Nick is a highly prepared individual, but if we don't have in-comic proof of him having measures against Thor, and actually be capable of using them.

Well, this is contingent on how hard he can hit Thor (which I doubt is very hard). Thor's not going to just stand and take it. He'll see about knocking Fury out as fast as possible.

Clea vs Paibok the Power Skrull

This is a heck of a match. Paibok has a lot of, well, power. Clea is a Sorceress Supreme. Location and prep-time don't favor either character. Although Clea could prepare a number of spells including shields and protection, while Paibok can armor up.

But, with all of Paibok's abilities, he isn't going to last against someone with Clea's power. Even on opposite sides of the station, Clea can cast spells to fight Paibok. She can have parts of the station come 'alive' and attack him. She can put him to sleep. She could even enslave him with a spell and put him under her control.

In a face to face match Clea's shields will protect her from attacks, all the while she can fire of her own blasts and other attacks. But there really isn't much need for that since she can send Paibok away with a teleportation spell. Shapeshifting won't even help Paibok because Clea will be able to find a detect him mystically.

Paibok is outmatched in this case.

Clea wins

vs.

Garrok (KYTRIGGER) bio

th_garokk.jpg

Note: I am leaving very early tomorrow morning for Vegas and won't be back until late Thursday so this will probably be my only comment. Phaed doesn't need to hold up voting or anything on my account if he's waiting for a rebuttal or something.

This is an obvious mismatch. Garokk is just too damn powerful for someone like Morlun.

Powers:

Morlun's main weapon is that he can drain a person's energy by touching them. He has to touch them to do this and he drains it slowly. It's not a "one touch you're dead" kind of thing.

He also has superstrength, and durability.

Garokk is a giant made of stone. He has superstrength, durability, is immortal, and can fire beams form his eyes. These beams can be concussive blasts, heat, light, or even open portals to teleport people. And these aren't smalls teleportations. Most can teleport themselves and a few other people. Garokk can teleport an entire city.

He can also rearrange matter on a sub atomic level and completely change the Savage Land one time by doign so.

He can also exist as pure energy making him almost impossible to harm but can still shoto blasts.

Neither will know anythign about the other or about Avalon.

As for the fight, Morlun is simply screwed. His life draining powers have NEVER been shown to able to affect someone that isn't made up of normal tissue like Garokk and he has never been shown to be able to absorb just pure energy like garokk can become.

Not only that, but he won't be able to even get close to Garokk. His blasts are strong as hell and would easily knock the crap out of Morlun. Even if he did somehow survive a heat blast, Garokk would simply rearrange his matter basicalyl killign him, or just teleport him away from Avalon making him forfeit. I don't care if Morlun has superspeed or not, he cannot outrun a teleportation the size of a city.

Basically, Morlun can't hurt Garokk. Garokk can definately hurt Morlun or just get rid of his annoying ass.

Winner- Garokk

Clea vs Paibok

Ok, this is going to be a tough match for paibok but certainly one he can win. The key here is going to be his superspeed. He´s going up against a sorcerous supreme which means he has to be quick and efficient in getting the kill. His superspeed will be a huge help here. Even doctor strange needs time to cast his spells and it´s this lag that will help paibok. As soon as he´s within line of sight he can use his hypnosis to overpower her and his iceblasts to freeze her on the spot.

Clea obviously has the advantage in terms of offensive power, but at the end of the day she is still just flesh and blood and the lag in her spells will betray her here giving paibok the win.

WINNER: PAIBOK THE POWER SKRULL!

But she´ll still need time to activate them once she reaches the battlefield. Something paibok´s superspeed will allow him to take full advantage of.
`
But, with all of Paibok's abilities, he isn't going to last against someone with Clea's power. Even on opposite sides of the station, Clea can cast spells to fight Paibok. She can have parts of the station come 'alive' and attack him. She can put him to sleep. She could even enslave him with a spell and put him under her control.

But in order to do this she needs to know where paibok is. This means casting a location spell giving paibok even more time to find her and rip her in half. This is the problem clea faces. Without the superspeed she could easily take this but it just takes too long to bring those spells into play. With great power comes great lags :woot:

In a face to face match Clea's shields will protect her from attacks, all the while she can fire of her own blasts and other attacks. But there really isn't much need for that since she can send Paibok away with a teleportation spell. Shapeshifting won't even help Paibok because Clea will be able to find a detect him mystically.

Clea wins

But as said before she needs time to bring up these shields. Time she simply does not have. For once it´s one of his passive powers that will win the match for paibok. Clea´s simply come up against one of the few powers that can beat her formidable magical power. Unlucky draw I guess :p

In this, and the rebuttle, post, the reason behind Paibok winning is his superspeed. I haven't found anything yet that says he has superspeed. The bios just say he has super human speed (and one bio didn't mention speed at all).

Superspeed and superhuman speed are two very different things. Captain America has superhuman speed.

Now, if Paibok does indeed have some degree of superspeed, it's nothing Clea can't handle. Clea can raise any shields she needs during prep-time and start the battle fully protected. She could also cast defensive spells that react if anyone gets too close. (She doesn't need to know about any superspeed, she'd just be preparing to stop anyone strong from getting too close.)

And not all spells take a long time to cast. Some just need a quick gesture or spoken words.

Clea has plenty of power to protect herself from anything Paibok can dish out. And she can give herself plenty of time to cast whatever she needs to stop Paibok (like teleport all life on the station to another dimension).

Clea wins

*Thor - (I almost went with Nick...but, just couldn't imagine him beating Thor.)

*Garrok - (Morlun could have taken this, but Ky gave an adequate reason why not.)

*Clea - (If Paibok knew what he was dealing with going into the match, I would have given it to him. But, he will not even realize what Clea is all about.)

*Selene

Thor- just too powerful

Clea- Paibok always seemed very powerful, but much more of a manipulator/strategist to me. By not knowing Clea and almost nothing about Avalon his tactical mind is negated.

Garokk

I still don't know about my selene vs. sersi match. i will wait and see what others say.

Thor - I cannot see Thor getting beat by Nick Fury no matter the prep time. There is way too much difference

Garrok

Clea

Sersi

Nick Fury
Garrok (good arguments against Morlun)
Clea
Sersi (tough call. I only picked Sersi because of her matter transmutation)
