Countdown: New Weekly Series

Giffen started it off with Rogers co-writing, but Rogers has recently taken over full writing duties. He's still kicking loads of ass, though. Blue Beetle is worth definitely worth a read.

A lot of people I know dropped Blue Beetle early on, I glad I gave it the chance because it has been nearly a flawless run.

Can someone who took more drugs than me this week explain to me the point -- or, hell, any point at all -- of the "Athena" story that Donna tells...Donna? Athena sprang from Zeus' head after he swallowed her mother. Donna was a portion of Wonder Woman's soul split into a true being. Yes, they are both utterly unnatural forms of "birth," but beyond that they have no fcking similarities whatsoever. And the moral of the story is...Donna shouldn't expect to become Wonder Woman if she doesn't want to? What? What? What the poo is with that whole bit about her being more like Athena than she thinks? By all that is good and Buffy, please don't tell me that it's some notsosubtle hint that she's going to turn into Granny Goodness or something 'cause if that's the case I really am going to have to choke a btch.

Why did Jimmy leave Cadmus, exactly? Weren't they trying to help him?

I'm going to stop reviewing this book. It's not worth any of my [admittedly vast] effort to say "Nothing makes sense here and the writing is still shtty" every single week. We all know by now how much of a catastrophic failure this is by now and we all know that it has not shown any signs of lasting improvement, nor is it ever likely to.

Seriously, apparently all DC has to do to get my money is make a weekly series. I can't not read it for fear of missing some integral bit of information, but it sucks so much.

The sad part is, there's absolutely nothing integral about Countdown so far.

I'm buying for Mary Marvel, who is evidently not that important, but every time I skip an issue I'm worried that I'll miss something... I'm not missing anything. Countdown isn't so much a weekly series as it is a chance to sell more tie-ins. A book a week and every clown needs an 8-part limited series?

The main story for that is definitely in Countdown, which has the unfortunate side-effect of making every Search for Ray Palmer tie-in issue seem utterly pointless.

I missed most of it but is the search for Ray Palmer (itself just an excuse to run through all the different DC worlds) important because Ray has some anime-style destiny or is it because he's really smart and they need him to avert the Great Disaster? Because their are a lot of smart people in DC. My guess is Ray Palmer will show up on his own-- "Hai guyz I was going around all the multiverse picking up parts for this neat ship."

It's important because Bob the Monitor said that Ray's supposed to play a big role in the Great Disaster.

If it was just a series without this whole tie into everything else concept (but only see the actual payoff in another book) it would've been scrapped. This is just a way to force up profits at the expense of ripping of and pissing off us. I really wanted to enjoy this book, and I loved 52 but now I'm just annoyed by the whole buisness.

This book's habit of tying into everything else is why I dropped it months ago. With 52, they only expected you to have already read several books. Infinite Crisis, back issues of X and Y, ect. They expected prior knowledge from their readers, which is the case with 90% of all comics.

With Countdown, they're basically saying "Sorry, Charlie. You won't understand a lick of this book unless you're currently buying the entire DC line." When I started reading Countdown, I was mainly only reading JSA. Imagine my frustration.

Countdown sucks, and I pity all of you who hate it, yet continue to buy it in hopes that the payoff in issue #0 will be worth it.

I should've known it would suck based on the numbering scheme. You know what the last series to number its issues backwards was? Zero Hour. Yeah, that was a good one.

It's double frustrating because we KNOW it's leading to Final Crisis, and DC will not make their big event hard to get into, because they wanted the proverbial main stream people to come into the comic shops to buy the books. Stupid.
