Just wanted to weigh with a quick take with Countdown. My own reason for reading this is Mary Marvel and this was really weak this issue. She wasn't in the last issue, and in this issue, if you just read the previews then you are only missing a page and it can easily be summed up.

Mary says, "Do you want to be fish?" (she had turned the cows into fish, I thought she killed them but no) the people are silent. Mary reiterates that it feels good to have power. Eclipso says a few more lessons and you'll be ready. "For what?" Mary asks-- "Wait and see," says Eclipso. They fly off.

Unfortunately I couldn't read the whole issue cause I had to do some Up Till Dawn letter writing and I'm now in class.

Update time. I resisted bumping the board without something worthwhile (I try to deliver). Luckily I found something worthwhile, that is if I'm not the only poster on Hype who still cares (but just a little) about Countdown.

I found an interview where Paul Dini was talking about Mary Marvel. (Excerpts actually) and he said, in essence cute characters are no fun, it is better to “put that character through some tests and see if they come out the way they came in, or if they undergo some changes that ultimately make them a stronger, more interesting character,”

I ripped that quote second hand so there is no context or link to give you all. I take that to mean that she'll probalby come out good? If it's no fun to have nice cute character (I get the sense he was rejecting the "one note" character, he is probably rejecting the all evil character).

Can anyone say what type of interviewer Dini is? I know some tell the truth and some are really misleading.

Which pisses me off, the point of the marvel family is that they are too innocent and naive for their own good but they come off righteous in the end without the "darker" element and angst being added. They're raping my childhood by doing this to her and she'll just come of more whiney in the end. Everyone losses.

I liked that about them. But apparently their doubles on Earth-who-gives-a-**** are the innocent, naive ones and the New Earth ones are becoming generic, background-fodder superheroes.

Life's never exactely been swell for the Marvels but their childish view of the world was always something I loved. Yeah they can be duped pretty easily but they never (until now) did anything even remotely evil. It was cool to see the power level of supes in a child's hands. They were never corrupted in any form, that made them pretty unique and an interesting read.
