Countdown: New Weekly Series

I've been reading Shadowpact, and it's a nice title. Nothing spectacular, but I like it.
I'm mostly just waiting to read more about Blue Devil's trials.

Oh really? You know I want the Breitweiser issue just because of the art, he is amazing. If the fight happens next issue (and it probably won't, given Countdown's pacing), they'll still split it over a few issues but I imagine it may be New Avengers/WWH syndrome where people who have no business getting owned will be owned. I was checking the January solicits, she isn't mentioned in them. So I'll have to wait till the february solicits to try and read into the future.

It's possible Shadowpact's fight with Mary Marvel will be entirely in Countdown.

I thought the issue where Ragman was stuck inside his costume was pretty good.

There have been some good issues. I liked the one where Nightmaster discovered the secrets of his sword and his dad's connection to it. I just overall haven't really been that impressed with the series. Dr. Gotham's pretty lame, for example. Willingham has absolutely no clue whatsoever about how to write Zauriel. Little things like that make it a little less enjoyable.

Plus, now that I've been seeing Traci Thirteen and Detective Chimp together in little scenes in Blue Beetle, I keep wishing Detective Chimp would quit Shadowpact and star in some Croatoan Society stories with Traci and the ghosts of Ralph and Sue Dibny.

You mean where they start the fight on one panel, and on the next panel all the good guys are unconscious?

I hope that doesn't happen but I can see it happening. I guess you read lots of comics huh? Also, I just don't want Shadowpact to die just to prove they mean business with Mary. That kind of stuff rings false with me. If they are knocked out... alright... I guess so.

well, there has been a new newsarama interview on the latest countdown. It is, as most always a good interview, the the editors were being very cagey and guarded today, which is always leads up to more speculation than proper. I love arguing from silence when they are like that. In posting from a mobile so I'm not gonna be able to give yall the link or my thoughts on Mary marvel (only worthwhile thing) but I posted my thoughts there under this name as well. When I get in ill lay out my case.

I'm also going to put this in the Wonder Woman section as well, but I was reading the DC boards and heard that something interesting was said in a pod cast by Gail Simone, relating to Wonder Woman and Final Crisis.

she said fans will wonder who is stronger, Wonder Woman or Mary Marvel

Very interesting for a lot of reasons, and it looks like I was largely wrong with many of my Countdown theories, at least as far as Countdown goes. Final Crisis will definitely reboot DC, and Countdown doesn't really end until Final Crisis does, as it is all one long event, but it looks like my predictions were somewhat off.

As far as Countdown goes though, I am dissapointed because a lot of what is being set up is being done so poorly and with such disregard to even the basic guidelines of some characters that I have trouble giving it credit. Things like that leave a sour taste in my mouth.

...Okay, this has to be intentional. I just...it has to be.

Haha, Superboy Prime sucks more every time I accidentally see him. :D

Seriously, though, a fight between SBP, who sucks, and Captain Monarch, who's still lacking any sort of reasonable explanation behind his turn to evil? Whoever wins, we lose. :(

It's certainly not earning the numbers that the "spine of the DCU" should be earning and it's getting lower as we speak...

..but it's still doing a whole helluva lot better than it deserves to be doing. Anywhere even near the top twenty is honestly a travesty, considering how many comics are hundreds of times better and selling much worse.

Though, of course, that's nothing new for the industry.

I don't post here often, but...wow, BrianWilly, that was my "laugh of the night". Thanks for the scan, man.

Someone's been inhaling too much Kryptonite or something. :wow: Abandon all Hope indeed.

People beyotch and beyotch abput il kill you to death but thats what prime would say. that guy is a square and talks like a square. hes someone immensely powerful but we still cant take serious.

I can't stand how they are drawing Prime it's so stupid.

I did love how he went completely off the deep end last issue though.

You know, I ask myself why I keep buying Countdown. Then something like "I'll kill you to DEATH!" happens, and I remember why.

I figured I'd even things out. For every couple of consistently good titles I have on my pull list (Blue Beetle, Captain America), I tend to pick up one of the bad issues I look through at my local comic shop.

It's a practice rivaling that of kicking oneself in the crotch.

You buy Countdown for the same reason you buy all star batman... for the lulz.
One day, I hope fans everywhere realize that when they buy bad comics for the laughs, they're convincing publishers to make more comics like that, and less good ones.
