CW Presents: The Vampire Diaries - Part 1

It was a decent premiere. I'm over Elena and her relationship with Damon, so the focus on them did nothing for me. I also thought her request at the end of the episode was unbelievably melodramatic. Why not ask Alaric to compel her to move on with her life? Why does she think it's necessary to erase all of her romantic feelings towards him? It felt like drama for the sake of drama.

I don't quite understand why Tyler is human again (it might've made more sense in the finale, I don't remember), but I like that he (once again) has to excercise a supreme amount of self-control to contain his rage. He and the witch (is it Liv?) would make a cute couple.

Alaric is...Alaric. He's cool and all, but I didn't really miss him, so I don't care that he's back. They can do some really cool stuff with him, though.

Stefan is still my favorite character. His new girlfriend is both likable and hot. I'm happy he's staying far away from Elena.

Bonnie and Damon...meh.

6.5/10. Next week looks :whatever:

Yeah I wish Tyler was still a hybrid. And I am wondering if when Bonnie comes back if she will be a witch again or just boring human, along with Damon.

yeah they kind of stuffed up. he really should be a werewolf since that's what he was before he died and became a hybrid.

They did that so that when Damon does eventually come back more drama

Elena asking Alaric to compel her to forget is taken from True Blood, at the end of one of the seasons, Hoyt Fortenberry asks Jessica to compel him to forget about Jessica and Jason.

Vampire Diaries really copies a lot from other vampire shows, they also had a season finale where Stefan Salvatore was placed in a metal casket and dropped to the bottom of a lake.

I know. That's what I meant by "drama for the sake of drama". It's unnecessary and will do nothing to improve or otherwise strengthen their relationship. It'll just give them an excuse to write Damon as a whiny man-child and portray their relationship as more "epic" for being able to overcome such a huge roadblock.

In this case she can also be given those feelings back. But knowing TV Elena will be dating & happy wirh someone else when Damon returns & Damon will be his angry self in no time

I really dug the season opener.I kinda quit this show last year because it just became to complex.I'm glad were back and keeping it simple.Hope it stays this way.

So Alaric is basically unkillable right? If I recall, the only way to kill him was to end Elena's human life.

I like Enzo, but Stefan really needs to tell him to mind his own goddamn business. Damon's not his brother, Caroline's not his friend, he has no reason to have any legit grudge toward Stefan.

The Good:

- Stefan/Caroline/Enzo/Ivy. I found them all very entertaining.

- Damon/Bonnie. Their first scene together was terrible, but I found them more and more engaging as time went on, most likely because they weren't interacting with their respective love interests.

- The last five to ten minutes. Everybody hurts.

The Bad:

Elena/Alaric. Their scenes were just as melodramatic and as stupid as I thought they would be. Like I said last week: Elena would've been much better off asking Alaric to compel her to move on with her life. It would've been a quicker and easier solution, and would have also been a more sensible request (IMO).

- Stefan being demonized by Enzo for wanting to move on with his life in the wake of his brother's death. I suspect the writers are speaking through him.

- Damon doesn't appear to miss Stefan at all. What gives?

- Jeremy is on the show for two reasons: to mope and to die. It's gotten old.

The Okay:

- Stefan wanted a new start...but apparently not a new number.

- They killed Ivy. Not a big deal in the long run, but I actually liked her.

This was a lot better than last week. 7/10.

Pretty much my thoughts.

Except I kinda liked the Elena flashbacks. I thought it was nice to be reminded of those moments

So, any ideas about who is hiding on the other side or whatever with Bonnie and Damon?

Good episode, except for Enzo, I don't like Enzo.

i really like the character.

looks to be some random dude judging by the promo. i hope there's more too it though.

Not only are they doing something a la true blood, haven't they already done this with Elena when she was compelled to forget Jeremy's death and she became am evil?

This show has become really repetitive

I wonder if the ratings will rebound because they are at series lows and have become standard like your usual CW show. I guess the time for teen vampire romance is dead.

I mean this show has been repetitive for a while. Im not really surprised when arcs look very similar to me.

It's the same with a lot of shows that go on for this long

Yeah TVD is the last thing that I can think of from the Twilight Era of things. I cant think of that many paranormal romances on TV still other that TVD and Teen Wolf. The bubble burst especially on teen vampire things.

Now it's all about dystopian futures and whatnot like Hunger Games, Divergent, and Maze Runner. Before that it was all magic stuff like Harry Potter, Spiderwick Chronicles

I can see this wrapping up in the next 1 or 2 seasons. If it ends next season it will match True Blood's season count

nope. that was damon invoking the sire bond to make her turn off her humanity.

Yeah, being compelled to turn off your humanity and having the love of your life erased from your memory aren't really the same thing at all.

One fundamentally changed her entire being, the other just means there will be less boohoo'ing.
