BvS David S. Goyer IS the Script Writer! - Part 2

So, to get off the really tired and boring Goyer hate subject, I'm really interested in seeing what kind of dialogue Terrio has lined up for these characters.

I absolutely loved the script of Argo, so I'm hoping everything flows just as well as that. I'm interested to see what kind of lines Affleck's Batman will get.

I don't know much about Goyer's person but thought the BAFTA interview he did was a good watch. He seemed like a cool enough cat and came off knowledgeable about the biz.

What exactly did he say?

Nah, man, if you listen to the podcast you will see all this was said in a funny joking manner. :BA

Some already hate the guy, so they used this to attack him even more.

What exactly did he say?

Here's what he said:

“How many people in the audience have heard of Martian Manhunter?” After hearing some light applause and cheers, he added, “How many people that raised their hands have ever been laid?”

Goyer went on to explain: “Well, he hasn’t been rebooted but he’s a mainstay in the Justice League. He can’t be f***ing called the Martian Manhunter because that’s goofy. He can be called Manhunter… The whole deal with Martian Manhunter is he’s an alien living amongst us… So he comes down to Earth and decides, unlike Superman who already exists in the world now, that he’s just going to be a homicide detective… So instead of using super-powers and mind-reading and like, oh, I could figure out if the President’s lying or whatever, he just decides to disguise himself as a human homicide detective. Dare to dream!”

What a dick. Also, see MOS and read his Clark Kent interviews to find out more on how he feels about that. Keep this guy away from the DC universe.

MM is an alien. Who lived most of his life on another planet. A planet that's dead now. He was brought here accidentally by a scientist who died after he showed up. He's several hundred years old. Why would he give a **** if the president is lying or not? He doesn't know anything about humanity except that which he sees through the television at first, although he has a basic sense of right and wrong. He decides to become a cop because he's inspired by TV shows and wants to learn more about people in a different way than just a mind meld. He believes in helping the little guy.

Humor or not, you learn a lot about people by the way they joke. This is just further proof to me that Goyer doesn't give a **** about the DC characters that aren't Batman and maybe not even Batman some days.

They need someone who believes in the material and the characters and not someone who thinks he's "smarter" and "better" than it like this hack.

the podcast is up on iTunes for free...listen to the context and make up your own minds

I does actually make a difference that it is played for humor. I love Superman and I could tear him to shreds if I wanted to in order to get some laughs (and may have done so on occasion). And look at the ridicule Batman has faced over the years. Are the creators of the Batman '66 show just a bunch of Batman haters? Isn't Brave and the Bold also played up for laughs (I've never read or seen it)?

And Goyer also threw this out there in the same interview.

I would set it up like The Day After Tomorrow. We discover one of those Earth-like planets… So maybe like… we get the DNA code from that planet and then grow him in a petri dish here… He’s like in Area 51 or something and we’re just basically… doing biopsies on him. Then he gets out and he’s really angry and he ****s She-Hulk.

It's a worthwhile origin off the top of his head... or is it?

P.S. The She-Hulk thing is a call back to an earlier riff.

So this pretty much confirms that Terrio will be responsible for the majority of the work? Not just a couple of tweaks here and there?

Seems like the base story will still be from Goyer's work but everything else is going to be Terrio.

Basically what was expected from what I gather.

Joke.

Brave and the Bold is not played for laughs.... it's pretty much adapting the old 50s sci fi era Batman. I thought it was cool. The Batman TV show is awesome in its own way.

Meh.

I ****in' hate Goyer.

That credit happens a lot. It means Goyer wrote the screenplay and that Terrio is polishing that script.

because terrio is getting the main written by credit, it was probably more extensive than a polish. he probably re-wrote a significant portion of it. i think it's fantastic news.

If it was anything more than a polish Goyer would not be listed

His comments re: She Hulk are concerning. Hopefully he has nothing to to with writing anything with Wonder Woman.

A glorified proofreader wouldn't get front-billing, methinks.

Goyer's story may be intact, as well as the framework of his screenplay, but Terrio had to do enough revisions to put Goyer in the backseat. That suggests significant.

I enjoyed the subtlety of Terrio's writing in Argo. Maybe we can finally drop the heavy-handed exposition and regurgitation of themes that has plagued us under Nolan and Goyer.

They'll still use Goyer's basic plot outline, but it definitely seems it's going to be more Terrio. I still think they'll keep some elements Goyer included in the actual script, but we don't know for sure.
