They're trying to make Maleficent into some sort of LoTR epic in the trailers. Lord of the Spindles is what came to mind. And some very silly prosthetic cheekbones. Not for me, but it looks good fun for Disney film lovers.

well from what i had heard shield was reformed in season finale. If that was bad information then I was wrong about not much fallout i gave up on show early and even though i liked WS I have no desire to go back the first time i had that reaction to a joss whedon TV show.

WS should really be called conspiracy thriller and not political thriller.A olitical thriller involves politics or people at white house.Even though I am democrat and voted for obama twice a film critizing his white house for drones and NSA surveilance would be totaly fair critism.

The stuff about Nixon In DOFP is more political thriller to me.

AoS started out rocky, but it really picked up toward the end and found itself.

To me the Nixon stuff in DOFP was the worst. That was one of the worst makup jobs I've ever seen in a film. He looked like a caricature of himself. Nixon wasn't fat like that, he had the funny looking jowls, but he wasn't fat.

That's the problem when you do a historical character like that, if you're going to do a make up job, it had better look spot on, ala Lincoln. This is why when Hopkins played Nixon, they didn't do a ton of makup. They wanted him to look human, not like some weird rubber face freak as he did in DOFP. And I loved DOFP, so it's not an overall criticism of the movie, but it certainly was a low point.

I hope Maleficent will flop. I'm sure visually movie will be stunning but story and plot will be pale and boring. And even Jolie cannot save it.

DOFP for president of Boxoffice :D

Even visually it looks kinda soulless with way too much CGI like Alice in Wonderland and Oz: The Great and Powerful

Racism was barelly the main theme in DoFP actually, it was more about how conflict after conflict only lead into more death, or "nobody's born evil". Hell, the film actually had more about self improvement and courage than dealing with racism, it's wasn0t heavy handed in the film, it was barelly there.

It was really about destiny, about cause and effect. Is time really immutable, or can we change it? Destiny was the key thing.

Exactly, it was about the fact Xavier/Mystique/Magneto finding out where their actions would lead to and whether given that knowledge they change their decision making or not, a second chance and all that.

Much like the series itself coincidentally.

You want legs, then the film makers are going to have to start gearing these movies with young women and teen girls as the audience in mind, because most movies with legs, have something for that demographic. It don't take much, just a couple of cute hot guys showing off their chests is all that will be needed. Unfortunately, Wolvie just isn't enough anymore. I'd say they might want to consider sexing up Fassbender and McAvoy a bit more in the next movie to get some extra legs for the franchise.

Isn't that the reason why Nicholas Hoult isn't Beast 100% of the time?

Well, we do have J-Law. And the franchise will be getting young versions of Scott, Jean and Storm, plus Channing Tatum's Gambit. So that should help.

We didn't really need to see Wolverine's buttocks, I didn't think! He appeals to the gym lovers and the housewives (and some of the guys of course). But we are getting some fresh meat coming in soon!

Channing Tatum hasn't officially signed on to be Gambit, yet.

I hope he doesn't. I just don't see it.

But, yes, AOA will have its firepower cast and I'm stoked to see it :)

Nice to have some good news coming into this thread. $300+ million is great.

After next weekend we should be somewhere around $450m+

The original Disney cartoon is one of my favorites. I saw it during a re-release when I was about 4, and I remember Maleficent scared the **** out of me when she first appeared. :funny:

The new movie looks ok, but I've been pretty mixed on their live action adaptations so far. I'll catch it at some point.

But I'll be getting my Disney fix next weekend...I'm seeing Aladdin on Broadway on Friday night. :woot:

I like the ending of TDK. But at the end of the day, why not just pin Dent's murders on the Joker? They are already lying about Dent anyway. It was a bit contrived.

And i don't think it went any deeper on it's themes than TWS. It had a scene of torture where Batman is beating Joker to get info. Joker lies. It's saying torture doesn't necessarily work.

Then it has a scene of Batman creating a device to spy on people.

That's it.

lol it took it a lot more serious than Tomorrow Never Dies.

Might be the wrong place, but I will say. I don't think they could have framed the Joker. Mainly because it would have to been used at his trial. At that point, the Joker could have blamed it on Dent. Also, some of those crimes happened when the Joker was holding hostages, so he couldn't have been at two places at once. You also have Dent's death couldn't blame that on Joker since he was arrested by then. Really Batman had only two choices and he thought he was saving Gotham, but it almost destroyed Gotham.

Wow! I had no idea Aladdin was on Broadway. My wife and I saw The Lion King last year and that was great!

So for all you Boxoffice experts. Would you say this opening weekend was good or a bit low from what people were expecting? I'm just hoping it can pull in some decent money next weekend.

Really happy with those box-office numbers. Maybe not massive OMG numbers, but solid nonetheless. Hoping for another strong week ahead. Quick glance at boxofficemojo and TWS made $22M from Monday-Thursday, ASM2 at $19M, Godzilla at $24M. DOFP is estimated to make $19.6M today so I think a Monday-Thursday gross of $35-40M is in order (similar to X3) going into Friday with around $130M. Assuming it drops around 60% next weekend it should be around $160-170M by next Monday.

Stop talking about the plot points of TDK in here, and stay on topic. We have a TDK forum for this. Go there. Or do this in PMs.

Yeah, it just opened. I can't wait! That's one of my other favorite Disney movies. My sister and brother-in-law are taking my nephew the next night (it's his first Broadway show!) and I'm babysitting his little brother. Basically, it's Aladdin weekend for all of us. :oldrazz:

I loved Lion King! My friends and I saw it in standing room when it first opened, and we got attacked by the hyenas. I'm not even making that up.

I'm thinking it's a good weekend for DOFP, even if it's nothing earth-shattering box office-wise. Hell, I'll take what we got over Last Stand's opening. It may have been bigger, but the movie certainly wasn't.

But...we need IMAX next time, Apocalypse. :argh:

Nice to get over $300m. Hopefully the weekdays hold up well.

I haven't tried IMAX before, is it really good? May go see Edge of Tomorrow/Maleficient in IMAX.

Yes, I love it. Definitely give it a go if you haven't before.
