So with the 4 day actuals, the absolute minimum this should make domestically is $220M. I am hoping this movie actually shows some legs and can push it to $240-250M.

Lets go for $250m. :yay:

Agreed.

Avengers is more family friendly (again not an insult) and Marvel wont be putting any scenes with drug addiction/taking, swearing or decapitations in their films anytime soon.

Ummm That's incoorect because they already have:oldrazz:. Thor got his hand cut off, the whole extremis virus thing. They don't use the F bomb but they do have strong language.

And ThorTDW made the least amount of money out of the last four Marvel films:oldrazz:

Yes, Thor The Dark World was very mediocre, I watched it at home and was bored. I don't think Marvel cares much about Thor than the other properties, but I just hope Thor 3 isn't as bad as Thor Dark World.

91.4 is less than TLS.
I expected much more.

First Class only did 55 million.

What people don't realize is TLS turned a lot of people off. So it's really not fair to compare DOFP to TLS.

I expected a little more this time...But 90.7 million official for a 3 day is nothing to sneeze at. I was hoping for 98-100 million for a 3 day. At no point did i think it would top TLS 102 million 3 day. TLS did too much damage. To the point where i for one wasn't even excited for First Class when it was announced. I think I saw it on the Sunday of the release because my dad wanted to see it. TLS did a lot of damage.

Yeah perhaps with todays standards, the numbers were a bit disappointing, but with the track record of X-Men movies, it seems to be getting back on track. Apocalypse has a chance to really get the X-Men to a higher opening, maybe even topping TLS.

Also I want Apocalypse on IMAX, if possible.

Still doesn't change the fact that decapitation happened.:oldrazz: Movie was good, could have been so much better.

The circumstances are very different.

TLS followed from the momentum of X1 and X2, and featured the same cast in a big climactic movie. And Fox and Sony were the only ones making comic book adaptations then, before Marvel Studios came along.

DoFP has no real momentum behind it, it comes after two smaller films and feels like it's like the first in a refreshed franchise.

There are many more movies being made these days, many more superhero movies being released, and the economy is worse so people are more choosy.

FC was a 2D film. With that plus inflation the results aren't as far apart as they might look.

DOFP was expected to be the no 1 opening. While the fatigue of TASM2 was predicted on several sites, no one predicted this with DOFP. Mojo, predicted DOFP as the no 2 domestic opening of the year after How to Train your dragon 2 with $290M. It's going to fall well short of that figure and may not reach $200M if there's a significant drop this weekend.

Is DOFP a flop? No and international BO will take it to over 600M WW, but it is a major disappointment.

There's no way this movie fails to reach $200M domestic, it can perform worse than TLS and still go over that figure.

I have strong faith in the international numbers. We'll see.

Major disappointment? What are you smoking?

I never expected X3 figures. No movie this year has done that yet. And considering the X-Men aren't as 'pop culture' as Godzilla or Spider-Man, they were all pretty close in numbers.

X-Men is rebuilding itself and, hopefully, this movie will be the first big stone in the foundation.

That being said, it's clear that the more splashy nature of X3 was also an audience draw. X3 had a great trailer (better than the one for DoFP) and a bit more snap, crackle and pop in the whole 'feel' of the pre-movie marketing. DoFP was presented in more of a sombre fashion.

Cap 2 has.

Not for opening weekend it hasn't.

X-Men has fallen in popularity considerably since X3. Back then there weren't as many superhero franchises out either. The fact that it is able to do numbers it is doing now is quite encouraging, it is a stepping stone for the franchise's comeback. So I don't see it as disappointing. The worldwide reception has been very strong as well. So I don't see the reason be all doom and gloom, especially since it's only the first weekend.

Oh, you're only talking OW. My mistake.

It hasn't made the same money opening nor final when you account for inflation. Let's not turn this into another studio war, though.

I would add that they did a terrible job at promotion for First Class. It seemed like there were a few posters, a trailer and that was it. It only really got on people's radars when it good very good reviews.

It's funny when someone says something is one thing when every piece of evidence says otherwise!
