All the Box Office sites will be tomorrow (.com, Mojo, Guru), while Variety and THR will likely be today.

Ah, thanks. Makes perfect sense.

I usually follow Mojo. Sometimes they miss bad, but they are usually in the ballpark.

Reviews for Edge of Tomorrow look pretty good so far, Maleficent not so much.

that seth mcfarland movie looks atrocious and I like the guy and maleficent looks decent but I still say x-men wins the weekend
the wom is phenomenal and people who were on the fence hopefully
show up this weekend

Never like Seth MacFarlane, every time he opens his mouth in public, something sexist gets out. That said, i think he has a relativelly strong fanbase, i don't think he will easily fail in the box office.

Making a western is an easy way to alienate your fanbase. I love me a good western, but they just aren't what people want right now.

I just heard on the radio that Xmen made an estimated 4.8 million for Tuesday? is that true? if so, that is the biggest drop on day after Memorial Day big budget history! Someone confirm cause that sounds very low.

Night at the Museum 2 made less than that with $3.6 million, so, even if the $4.8 million figure is true, it isn't the biggest post-Memorial day Tuesday drop in history. Ditto for Terminator Salvation.

I think overall will become the best selling xmen, seem like after all the good results. Pleased it beat of some of the competition also.

Certainly not if that ridiculous Tuesday number is true.

Actually read on the BoxOffice.com forums the Tuesday take was around $8.1MM which would be on par with FF6 last year.

We'll see if it's true or not...

Over in Korea, it's holding up really well, dropping just 1% Tues-Wed. :D

I think it dropped less than a percent in China Mon-Tues as well if I read it right. Has grossed 49.6 million so far there.

My weekend projection:

Maleficient 67 Million = (Blockbuster Sleeper Prediction)
DOFP 34 Million = 62% percent drop
MWtDitW 21 Million
Godzilla 17 Million
Blended 8.5 Million
Neighbours 7 Million

Dropping to 34 million would be terrable.

I would really be depressed to see Maleficient get close to 70 Million.

Why would you be depressed if Maleficent got $70MM? If it's a good film it deserves to get as high as it can.

Dropping to $34M wouldn't be terrible, that's just in line with expectations.

62% percent drop would be quite normal actually. Less of a drop would be amazing, of course.

62% is much better than 66%

Major disappointment? What are you smoking?

I never expected X3 figures. No movie this year has done that yet. And considering the X-Men aren't as 'pop culture' as Godzilla or Spider-Man, they were all pretty close in numbers.

X-Men is rebuilding itself and, hopefully, this movie will be the first big stone in the foundation.

That being said, it's clear that the more splashy nature of X3 was also an audience draw. X3 had a great trailer (better than the one for DoFP) and a bit more snap, crackle and pop in the whole 'feel' of the pre-movie marketing. DoFP was presented in more of a sombre fashion.

Maybe not major disappointment, but a disappointment none the less. When it was expected by everyone to be the no 2 domestic film of the summer, and every box office site expected it to beat out TASM and CA, and it came in below both of those.

Everyone agrees TASM2 was a huge disappointment. You cant underperform below that film and call it anything other than a disappointment.

Again, I'm talking about the numbers, not about the quality of the film which everyone has said is great, and as I said, I gave the film a 9/10. None the less it has underperformed at the box office.

I also disagree with the marketing. People were probably invested more in X3 after the big cliffhanger of X2, but I loved the marketing for this film. The teaser trailer for DOFP is probably one of the most epic trailers I've ever seen for a movie. I almost felt like crying watching the damn trailer!

I think we just underestimated the audience drop off after years of mediocre to sub-par x-men films. Hopefully the audience will be back for the next one.

Official:

@BoxOffice X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST took in $8.21M on Tuesday. 5-Day domestic total stands at $118.78M. #XMEN #DOFP
