Days of Future Past 'Days Of Future Past' BOX-OFFICE worldwide prediction - Part 1

Maybe not major disappointment, but a disappointment none the less. When it was expected by everyone to be the no 2 domestic film of the summer, and every box office site expected it to beat out TASM and CA, and it came in below both of those.

Everyone agrees TASM2 was a huge disappointment. You cant underperform below that film and call it anything other than a disappointment.

Again, I'm talking about the numbers, not about the quality of the film which everyone has said is great, and as I said, I gave the film a 9/10. None the less it has underperformed at the box office.

I also disagree with the marketing. People were probably invested more in X3 after the big cliffhanger of X2, but I loved the marketing for this film. The teaser trailer for DOFP is probably one of the most epic trailers I've ever seen for a movie. I almost felt like crying watching the damn trailer!

I think we just underestimated the audience drop off after years of mediocre to sub-par x-men films. Hopefully the audience will be back for the next one.
I get what you're saying... I think it's the initial hyperbole that was hurting your case. Fox was probably expecting a little better, but even they have to understand that they're working on a once knee-capped franchise.

A few things though:

- It hasn't performed worse than ASM2 yet, so no need to jump to conclusions. Memorial Day weekend 3-days are not fully comparable with 3-day weekends since they holiday spreads out the movie-going audience.

- The final take for DOFP is already projected to be same or likely better than that of ASM2. DOFP is already showing much better holds than X3's trends, so following that model it's worse-case-scenario is to make around $220M final domestic... but it'll probably do better.

- Lastly, the MAJOR difference between the franchises is that the X-Men box office is on a huge upswing while the Spider-Man movies are slowly sinking with each new addition.

That is actually the lowest after-Memorial-Day-Mon-Tues drop if I'm not wrong.

Tuesday Actuals: 8.2 Million

A little lower than X3 8 year later adjusted number of 10.8
million.

But not a debacle, anything under 6 million would have been.

Not the bump we wanted. Word of mouth?

Still 12 million behind X3 and that was 8 years ago........

Get your butts in the seat people and spread the word. It has to be better or we are going to a a 160 million dollar Apocalypse film.

What bump? Were people expecting a large bump on a Tuesday after a long holiday weekend?

That was never going to happen.

I was hoping it would beat X3's adjusted number of 10.8 million
But it's ok!

Go see it again....... add to the total :woot:

You need to stop adjusting and accept that the year is 2014...

Domestic 5 day total is over 10 million ahead of captain America 2 I believe. Let's see if this lead can hold out

That's very good for single day.

Box offic emojo hadn't put tuesday numbers out yet.

There Is very good chance no matter what the drop Is this weekend by end of second weekend DOFP will have outgrossed DOmestic runs of both the wolverine
and FC.

10 million from hollyday Monday X-Men had, unlike Cap, so they are pretty much on par. This weekend is pivotal, so we'll see how it works compared to Cap. This movie should really top X3

I am going today. In fact, counting the San Diego special screening I have seen it 5 times after today.

The people that were saying it was the lowest memorial day? I am sure that those people meant lowest drop.
I was the only one saying it was not a record because I count inflation adjustments that no one likes, lol!!

Daily Domestic Gross
Tue, May. 27 2014

Title
X-Men: Days of Future Past $8,207,674 = -58%
Godzilla (2014) $2,689,400
Neighbors (2014) $1,583,660
Blended $1,374,160
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 $728,078

-58% NOT BAD! I'll take that!

I wish people would stop comparing this to X-Men: The Last Stand.

It was 8 years ago when the franchise was at it's commercial peak. Not to mention the superhero genre was in a very different place.

This movie is doing amazingly well, in my opinion. And after all... It looks like this one might actually have LEGS!!! An undeniable first for the franchise.
