I'm pretty sure this will be over -60%. FF6 was facing After Earth and Now You See Me in it's second week. NYSM, was a modest hit and a pretty fun movie with a great cast. After Earth was one of the biggest bombs of 2013 (LR beat it out based on ridiculous budget but took in more money), and I think everyone got a sense it was going to bomb.

DOFP will be facing much tougher competition. While both films are receiving tepid critical response (I'm being kind in McFarlane's case), both films are going to bring in more money than AE and NYSM did. X-men films typically are front loaded due to more of a niche fan base compared to other films in the genre that have wider appeal.

I see this weekend as:

Maleficent - 55-60M
DOFP - 32-35M
AMWTDITW - 25-30M

Niche fan base  ?

Adjusted for inflation X men 3 =284,813,000 and Xmen 2 =$283,747,900.
In fact, the big 3 were Spider-Man, Batman and X men during the comicbook mania in 2000. The franchise was lost but now it is the reborn :yay: .

What do you expect from the person trying to claim Thor has a "far meatier part" in The Avengers than Xavier does in Days of Future Past?

He must have been watching a totally different movie to us.

Maleficent has plummeted to 47% rotten on RT. Meanwhile DoFP has bumped a notch to 92 % Fresh. Hmmmmm...wonder if the former film will bomb immediately if poor WOM continues circulating?

Doubt it. Mixed to bad reviews didn't seem to hurt Oz or Alice at all. If Families are interested they are gonna see it regardless of the reviews.

I want to watch DOFP again, hopefully next week.

Oh and nice critics TV spot for this movie

Oh and Maleficent might be the worst reviewed Disney fairytale live action yet, if it keeps going at its rate.

 great spot.

I said compared other films in the genre. I said this exact same thing last year about Star Trek, compared to Star Wars.

Yeah and who was the one that said that Thor's role was "slightly more developed than Colossus"?

I know what I said, if you want to troll the boards, because me giving DOFP a 9/10 isn't good enough.

You're just piling up the crazy talk in this thread, aren't you?

DOFP is going over 4000 screens this weekend, don't know if that will have any noticeable effect though.

Is the fan base for DOFP as big as the fanbase of Dark Knight? No it's not. I said the exact same thing about Captain America, when a lot of people thought that TWS was better than Avengers and IM3, why it wasn't reflected in the box office. It's a smaller fan base.

They just added 5 screens so it's pretty negligible. Good looking out though!

I think if DOFP can make $40M, then it'll be a good weekend. And we can always hope for more! :)

That will be horrible for Disney at this point. They can't seem to win for losing. If not for John Lasseter taking over Disney animation and producing hits like Tangled and Frozen, Disney would be in a world of hurt. Disney's success is pretty much coming solely from it's subsidiaries.

I know what you're trying to say... it's all relative. However, I think niche just wasn't the right word since it's the opposite of mainstream... the latter of which is what blockbusters are considered.

Disney's live action films seem to always have a lukewarm reception. :csad:

Agreed, and niche probably wasn't the right term. Thanks for engaging in a discussion.

I dont know much about Disney and their animated films but a live action spin-off of a 50 year plus animated classic (all be it popular in its day) of a villain doesnt scream to me as a film that was in dire need of being made. Or am I missing something obvious here? Just a Jolie vehicle? When was the last time she had a massive hit?

I think Salt was a hit. I loved that film :word:

Hopefully it bombs like Transcendence, they probably sold more tickets already but one can hope.
