My DOFP show was sold out tonight.

Great. I think I'll see it again with a friend within a week or two. Might catch Edge of Tomorrow as well. Never watched a movie twice in theaters.

I'm in an early screening for maleficent right now ( promise to niece) and its 1/3 full. I am going to see how full the next room is that is playing dofp on a food run.

We had a Maleficent screening going on that looked like it was for Disney employees. But the other screening that was going on at our theater was for How to Train Your Dragon 2. I saw the logo on their check-in sheet.

I think I read the foreign opening weekend was almost 222 million by itself which is huge, updated numbers.

Is that correct?

Haa! That is better than the lame "my friends dragged me to it" excuse. I have never gone to any movie, concert or theatre production I in no way wanted to attend. Nor would I expect that of anyone else. Unless it is a family or close friend performing. Otherwise, I say, have a good time and tell me about it when you get back, and maybe we can do something later. Who wants to be miserable, and on top of it have paid to be miserable?

Yep. I also enjoyed Grown Ups 2. I can also see why critics hated it. Every movie or concert I have been too...there is some reason why i go to it. I support my faves regardless of quality. haha.

I suffered through a Michael Bolton concert years ago with my best friend because she wanted to go. It was an awful concert, but she had a blast and we had a good time.

Today, that same best friend has two kids - and her youngest is autistic, so we rarely get the chance to go out together anymore. Bad concert? Definitely. But I'm grateful for the time we got to hang out like that when we could.

Not me, nor anyone currently engaged in this discussion. If you want to run around making absurd and overblown claims, be my guest. But don't think that rating a movie a 9/10 (or even a 10 out of 10 for that matter) secures you from people calling you out on them every once in a while.

You took a non related post in another forum out of context, to troll something I said here that was taken the wrong way.

The fan base of x-men is not as large as Dark Knight, Avengers or the earlier Raimi Spider-man films. That's just factual information. Cap and Thor also are not in that catagory.

As I said to someone else, 'niche' may have not been the right word, but that's exactly what I said about Star Trek Into Darkness last year, and IMO that was the best film of summer 2013.

If you want to have a discussion fine, don't go taking quotes out of context off discussions that you weren't involved in. That is flame posting at it's highest.

That's all I'm going to say to you on this.

But again what's the point  ?

The majority of others films in the genre aren't like Avengers , Spidey( Raimi) or Dark Knight. Beside, 300 Million Domestic is a hard to do in box office today ( CA, Thor,XDOFP say hi).

So, X men franchise was still a MAJOR comicbook franchise in 2000 .
But after, Wolverine origin, no ....

We are talking about box office here. I'm talking about how this film lost audience after poor films in X3 and XMO:W. FC and TW were good, but they didn't really draw in audience the way the first two films did.

The question is, did X-men hit the ceiling of their audience with X2 and X3? Because that's what happened with Star Trek '09 and Star Trek Into Darkness. Also ST lost audience after a 4 year hiatus between sequels.

As I said, Thor and Cap are not in the catagory of Iron Man, TDK, or Raimi's Spider-man. Cap and Thor did grow their audience in a post Avengers boost, but they are not at that level domestically. If Iron Man 4 or TDK 4 were released this year, they would make 300M even if they sucked.

That's why Spider-man 3 made that much even though most people think it's the worst of the lot. The fan base was there.

TASM2 is in a different category than Cap and DOFP. TASM2 is disasterous because it lost audience over the previous film. DOFP was up from XFC, Cap 2 was up from TFA.

He called you out on exactly what you said.

Maybe you should learn the actual definitions of "niche" and and "major disappointment" before you throw them around like you're so sure of yourself.

Maleficent has plummeted to 47% rotten on RT. Meanwhile DoFP has bumped a notch to 92 % Fresh. Hmmmmm...wonder if the former film will bomb immediately if poor WOM continues circulating?

I always knew that film isn't gonna be loved by critics after Oz/Alice in Wonderland. I'm not surprised at all!

Weekday drops so far have not been very kind. Still pacing on par with f6. If that continues, will prob end around 230M. Have to see what happens this weekend. Needs a 125% Thurs to Friday boost to avoid a >60% drop I think. Maleficent's previews seem to have hurt the Thursday numbers a bit as well.

Meanwhile Godzilla continues to free fall.

4.9M Thursday

Well, BOG said 130 by Friday, so I expected this.

Honestly the weekdays haven't been out of the ordinary so far. This weekend will be what's telling.

Movie is basically following F6. So that puts finish around $230-235M.

If this finishes 700M+ I would be happy. 6 is such a meh number xD

So Blended fell behind Neighbors. That shows some pretty ok legs for Neighbors, and just how little anyone wanted to see Blended. Some of the worst counter programming in recent memory. :funny:

Cannot wait. :awesome:

It started a bit behind F6, but Mojo is predicting a much better second weekend in comparison, so depending on the legs, I think anything between $230m-245m is in play.

Can I just say that maleficent was rubbish. It was well acted, beautifully made and sweet but it was just really badly written. If anyone cares I could ramble on just say yes so I can post what happens. DoFP is miles and miles ahead.

Yeah lot of reviews saying the same, Edge of Tomorrow on the other hand is getting great reviews so far but doesnt seem to be predicted to make much impact at the BO this weekend.

It's out today here :)

Think Edge of Tomorrow will stop me seeing DOFP a third time... which is probably for the best :funny:

would need an 11M Friday to avoid a 60% drop. So +125% over Thursday. FF6 was +115% Thur-Fri.

Most likely looking at 35M for the weekend. FF6 finished 238M Dom, so I think this will probably finish off 225-235 depending on how strong of a hold from the weekend.

Assuming the 65% - 35% split of foreign to domestic holds It will fall between 650-675M WW. That's probably likely as it will play out more like Cap 2 did than TASM2 and TDW did, which had greater reliance on foreign receipts.

If it does break out closer 70%-30% then 700M is still in play. So keep watching the % of foreign B.O.

Maleficent does $4.2 million Thursday night. Could be seeing a 70million+ weekend for it. Demo is different for it so may not hurt X-Men that much I think.

If anything I think AMWTDITW will hurt X-men more, as X-men seems to be geared at older audiences, than other CB films. Assuming that film doesn't bomb. I'm thinking it does 27M, which is way below what Ted pulled in on it's opening, but McFarlane's got a pretty big fan base.

I thought the previews were pretty funny, but some of McFarlane's stuff is getting pretty stale.
