I just checked the answer that didn't have Wolverine in it.

I reckon the people who should actually go to the future should be a mix of the Brotherhood and the X-men.

So Havok, Emma, Banshee and new character Avalance have to stop the assassination of Kelley while Charles, Magneto, Mystique, Azazel and a very young Jean Grey go to the future to bust people out of the concentration camps.

So who's going to be the one trying to assassinate Kelley?

I would really prefer that X-MEN: SECOND CLASS and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE past be different films with their own unique focuses. But if they were going to do this, they'd have to do it very carefully.

People have been trying to choose between Rogue and Kitty as those who could be part of the past/future thing. No one's mentioned Xavier. As we saw in X3, Xavier switched his consciousness into another body. Based on what happens in Days of Future Past, couldn't a different version of Xavier perhaps switch his consciousness into that body as well? Could that be who we're seeing revealed to be communicating with Moira at the end of X3? Future Xavier somehow? And for some reason Moira never aged? :)

It gets a bit ridiculous from there. If they were going to go there, they'd have to GO there. That means a movie that explores the nature of time travel, the responsibilities that go along with it, and the impact of our choices.

And if they were going to do it full on, and attempt to use it to retcon some things, then they'd have to do things like explain why Xavier is still walking in X3 when he was already crippled in FIRST CLASS. Which I would imagine means Magneto would have to be involved involved heavily, perhaps with his own agenda, realizing that the Brotherhood isn't quite up to snuff, and now, even more resentful o his and Xavier's their split in FIRST CLASS, maybe trying to undo it?

There are so many possibilities.

I'd almost rather see an adaption of DOFP for X4 that simply deals with the fact that Xavier, Jean and Scott are gone, though Xavier obviously not permanently.

Definetly agree.

Days of future past is a great saga, but I think its too soon to do that, since they still can develop the first class characters in one more movie, before go into such a complex and big plot.

I thought The Last Stand as been thrown out, people kep saying they can't wait to see Stewarts Xavier and Cyclops so wouldn't any future sequences take place after X-Men 2 and not have anything to do with TLS thus being able to have Stewarts Xavier, Cyclops not dead and a powered up Rogue....

I just wish they counted First Class as a reboot in all honesty :o the X Films were great, but they were great for their time.

The thing is that nowhere has it been explicitly stated that The Last Stand has been 'thrown out'.

The mainstream audience doesn't know this, the director hasn't said this, neither have the writers and producers and studio.

It's going to be really confusing.

This 'pick and choose' filmmaking just doesn't work.

If there's a DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, the movie should at some point show the words:

"In the Distant Future..."

I am for this, if for no other reason than Days Of Future Past is one of the iconic, definitive story arcs in X-Men mythos, and for that reason alone, deserves to be translated into film.

I am also for this, because if there is any intention of rebooting the franchise, I believe this is the win / win way to do it so everyone is happy. Star Trek (2009) successfully rebooted Star Trek, creating a new continuity, while still existing in the original continuity as well. Days Of Future Past could allow for a very similar handling, where First Class is an alternate continuity, but also the same continuity, so those who want to ignore whatever issues they have with the previous 4 movies can do so, and those of us who want the entire series to fit together as one continuity can also do the same.

I am very curious to see how they pull this off.

I still think X2 is the best Marvel superhero film.

Agreed. I place X2 at the top of my list along with TDK. Its not at all dated & is just full of iconic moments. The invasion of the mansion was simply done perfectly. So much realism yet so true to the Wolverine character.

I will be bashed for saying It put I put X2 with Superman and The Dark Knight as best
Comic book films ever.

X2 Is closest we got to Wolverine's berezker fury on screen.Just so much to enjoy on this film.

Since I am more a fan of X-Men mythos, lore, and stories than comic books in general, I don't really rank the X-Men movies amongst other comic book movies, simply because X-Men are more special to me than Batman, Spiderman, Avengers, Superman, etc...

So I can only rank the X-Men movies amongst themselves. My ranking of them would look something like this:

1.) X-Men: First Class
2.) X-Men: The Last Stand
3.) X2: X-Men United
4.) X-Men
5.) X-Men Origins: Wolverine

- With none of the movies rating below a B grade, or 8 / 10

Prof X- Integral character to the universe
Magneto-Diddo
Cyclops- He needs respect and a much bigger part.
Wolverine- He's a must(as is Jackman)
Kitty Pryde- Time travelling edition
Storm-Cool mohawk version
Colossus-Same with Cyke.
Beast-Needs more screen time due to X-Men First Class
Iceman

we never actually saw Cyclops die (an it has been spectated that he could've some how survived)... the ending, with the Magneto and the chest piece scene suggested that the cure was only temporarily, so Rogue could always get her powers back... an there was that after credit scene that implied Xavier entered a new body... so, there was nothing in X3 that couldn't be undone (without having to completely throw it out, of continue)

After reading this concept, I am thoroughly impressed. Never in a million years did I think Fox Studios would be so ambitious as to greenlight a potentially massive X-men project. I think we all assumed the status quo of just another story with just another conflict pertaining to characters and a time period people do not have a huge interest in. While we may have gotten a good film, even better than FC, it was looking like the same old.

How do you go about this now? I think something over two parts would work, one serving as a direct sequel to First Class. The next serving as more of a future, T4/Matrix Reloaded type film, not that we are trying to attain the same level quality of those pictures. A First Class self contained trilogy really does nothing to provide an end-game and inevitably gets bogged down on the restrictions of the OT. It's a waste of time doing two more films in the 70's. Even a younger Jean/Cyclops would not mitigate this.

Time travel is really the only solution to fix the franchise if they use the concept responsibly. Then you could lead into X4-X6 with a clean slate. Redo Pheonix and Age of Apocalypse. Leave spinoffs to expain the history of the universe. I'll be more specific of what I think could be done when I have more time.

Too bad Exiles is cancelled. I have loved for them crossing over w/the movieverse and UU.

Very true. A timeline alteration can free up both timelines to interesting new stories if FOX wants to persue them.

dofp is a great way to explain first class as part of the continuity. what if cable or bishop comes back in time to better the future, but inadvertently creates an alternate time line where the prof and mag meet much later in life, and the original first class is never the original first class. it could also open up room for sentinels, age of apocalypse.

didn't vaughn say that they'd only add like one more character to this 1st class cast? bishop, cable, or rachel could work very well, especially with this story. someone from the desolate future with vague ties to the main cast could be cool.

Yeah I really hope to see at least one of them. With that story its probably gonna be the only chance to introduce a few characters, especially Rachel.
