DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 1

We still have like 6 more titles to go. I think 4 of those will definitely be Superman family books (Superman, Action Comics, Superboy and Supergirl). The other 2 I'm not sure, they might be too for all we know, they may relaunch Batman/Superman in some form and could potentially launch and brand new Supes title or a new Power Girl book.

They already confirmed Superman, JLA and Superboy. They started talking about Supergirl yesterday.
They should keep Action Comics, or else they're idiots and isn't there rumors of a man of steel book too?

The fact that we haven't seen or heard anything about Power Girl is a really bad sign.

But even with all this, it's still 5 comics about Superman and family, compared to Batman, it's half of it's titles. For a flagship character, it's not much really.
Same can be said about Wonder Woman.

Does anyone find it funny it seems they're trying to sell Jonah Hex by connecting him with Gotham? :p But yeah i've always digged Midnighter and Apollo, really cool heroes and Midnighter was the king of badass under Mark Millar.

I think having Hex in Gotham in the 19th century is great. Shows that even back in those times it was a hive for scum and villainy.

Ugh, they're really gonna combine the DCU and Wildstorm?

His part of the story in The return of Bruce Wayne was great, they may elaborate on that?

Power Girl's probably a goner, I'm just trying to figure out what the remaining two (after Action, Supes, Superboy and Supergirl) will be. I haven't heard any rumors on a third book starring Superman but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

But hey, if there's 6 of those and they're all Superman related that's pretty good. If it's any consolation theres several of the Batbooks that won't make it like Red Hood and Batwing.

Yep.

Yeah he was a hired gun but turned out Vandal Savage's gold ultimately, yeah Gotham has always been a vile place since prehistoric times with a Batman rising here and there to help the city.

I think I'm actually glad the only book I'm at all interested in here is All Star Western.

Blackhawks would've been awesome if it was written by Greg Rucka. :o

the recent announcement is again full of book that will be cancelled. though, im intrigued by all star western.

Has Black Adam appeared in any of these preview covers?

No information on the Marvel family whatsoever. I do wonder if we'll get Captain Thunder in the mainstream or atleast the name change, even Morrison's Captain Marvel Multiversity issue will be called Thunderworld.

The main problem is there's a few of these books that would probably last a few years on their own with a cult following (not ideal but not bad at all). But there's just too many books that appeal to similar fans that will be split between titles because they can only afford to buy so many books whereas if the only supernatural book was say Demon Knights it would have more of chance because all the fans of supernatural books would probably read it, but now there's like 8 supernatural books in DC's stable and frankly Swamp Thing and maybe one other book will survive for very long because fans are forced to choose one or two books with that theme because for many its impractical to buy all those books along with the other books they're probably already planning to buy.

books making it or failing will have to do with how DC markets them

This is true. I'm actually really interested in see how they pull it off. They'll probably do an ad for each group of titles (though I could see them doing splitting the Batbooks up cause there's so many, like maybe doing a "Women of Gotham" or "Gotham Heroes" for books not actually starring Bruce) or something to that effect.

well i think the success of a lot of these books will depend on new readers being interested in them....and i dont think people will be.

I dunno. Might even out. Lose some diehards. Bring in some Marvel Zombies and some Indie Faithfuls.

I have no clue.

DC's whole thing is based on forward thinking...regardless of how you think of their choices of creators, costumes and characters....they cant make this work with the old ways of marketing books....

I'm sorry, but titles like the Resurrecting Man could be written by Christ himself, and it still wouldn't last 30 issues.

i hang out with two guys...one is into comics and the other one isnt...the one that isnt comes with us to the comic shop on wed and yesterday he said this "I want to get into comics but doesnt know where to start"....we both said wait til Sept.

i dont think so...How many weeks and months have we heard New Avengers is crap....and yet its one of the top selling books. Marvel markets the hell out of that book and every major event starts from NA

Don't care how bizarre it is, it's written by Paul Cornell and it has Midnighter, tho Apollo needs his long hair back. :p Short hair doesn't fit him if you aks me.

Yep Apollo just doesn't look right with short hair. It doesnt suit him

Think I will check that series out though

The Avengers books sell because they are the flagship books which feature big name characters.

The likes of Ressurection Man don't fall into that criteria. I'd predict a good 75% of these new books don't make it past 12 issues.
