The Dark Knight "Dent, Damnit!", Dent casting "may not be considered conventional"

I'm not sure Jett knows what A-List means anyway.

And if DiCaprio is A-List, hell has frozen over.

DiCaprio is one of the top young actors out there and he is a major name in Hollywood.

YES, DiCaprio is an A-List star. If you watch anything outside of Titanic and Growing Pains you will see that as well.

First of all, he's like thirty.

Second of all, he's had one AA nomination. He didn't even get nominated for Titanic.

And third, he's so beyond overrated that an entirely new word needs to be created in the English language to define his meaninglessness.

Overrated? I think this guy hasn't even earned the respect he deserves yet. Titanic was an unfortunate blow to the public's perception of him. But he's slowly gaining that respect back working with Marty. His last performance was especially noteworthy, considering he went head-to-head with Nicholson and wasn't even outperformed.

First of all - So?

Second of all - he got rave reviews for his performances in Catch Me If You Can, Gangs of New York, Aviator and The Departed. Those are his last few major projects. Thats a sign.

Third - :whatever:

Hold his own with Nicholson? That's a laugh. We clearly saw two different films.

You're the one calling him young. Is thirty the new fifteen?

A sign of what?

Coversates with peers?

For that alone, you should be ignored...and possibly put to death.

Am I....missing something?

Is it all of a sudden wrong to talk with people, no less, with friends?

Apparently he saw The Departed. What movie did you see?

Yes, DiCaprio is, in fact, very talented. I was genuinely surprised when watching "The Aviator" (excellent film, by the way--and I thought it would bore me to tears).

Absolutely. I'll be the first to admit that I went through the I-hate-Leonardo-DiCaprio-because-he's-a-pretty-boy-and-was-in-Titanic phase, but once you get past that, you see just how good he really is.

Phoenix has a darkness, a mysteriousness about him that neither Foxx nor Denzel have imo.
Thats exactly what I dont like about Pheonix. Dent should be wholesome and evoke instant compassion from viewers to create a greater contrast between the Two-Faces of Dent.
We should like Dent as much as we like Bruce/Batman.
Tojo said:
He(Denzel) could give a fine performance, but too old, too a-list, and would overshadow every other actor imo.
Honestly, I dont see where all this "overshadowing" notion comes in with Denzel. Oldman, Neeson and Caine did not overshadow Bale and Bale is five times the actor Denzel is.

I can not see Foxx or WIll SMith or any of those guys (why dont we throw in LL Cool Jay)...
Will Smith and LL arent even in the same category as Foxx. Foxx is attractive enough to play Dent and he has quite proven himself as a flexible actor with Ray and Jarhead.

Im surprised more people arent behind Terrence Howard. Ive loved him as a choice for Dent before this rumor.
Cheadle, though a great actor, isnt good looking enough for Dent and neither is Sutherland.

Totally agree, though I never went through that phase, Ive been a DiCaprio fan since "Whats Eating Gilbert Grape" and my appreciation was validated with his perfect depiction of Romeo in "Romeo + Juliet".

I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers this phase. In High School I absolutely hated the guy. Why? Because all the girls loved him. But he is a great actor and he has a great screen presence. Most importantly, he fully invests himself into his roles. People also forget that this is the same guy who fought to get the role of Patrick Bateman.

how about Harley Dent? becomes Harley Quinn in the end? ok, bad sugguestion :P

And you wouldn't be happy with Denzel? That's kinda sad, actually...

Why is that sad? Because he's regarded as one of the greatest actors in the world? Get a grip dude, i have my reasons. Primarily because i don't think any characters in this film should be portrayed by someone SO famous. He is massive and i really think it will overshadow the film.

Now i know you're gonna say Oldman, Caine....but they are not on Denzel's scale. Another big reason is his age...sorry, but i think he is way too old for a Year 1/2 Harvey Dent. I prefer him to be the same age as Bruce, brothers almost...

Jett has said about casting in another thread, where ethnicity didn't matter, and he dismissed Denzel for being too old. Therefore, look for other ideas of 'unconventional casting', i.e. someone who would NEVER be thought of for this role, yet is aimed 'high' too.

I read about Ashton Kutcher, but I really don't see it.

Who are the big stars in Hollywood right now?

Cruise
Pitt
Clooney
Depp
Hanks
Smith
Penn

(All cast as leads and not co-stars, and therefore should be dismissed - maybe Depp, but too conventional to be 'unconventional', you know? Besides, he's busy working with Burton on Sweeny Todd).

So who's in the high end, but more likely?

Farrell
Foxx
DiCaprio
Damon
Affleck (already dismissed himself)
Law
Bloom (NO)
Jackman
Gylenhaal
Phoenix

All could be seen as Dent and Two-Face (except Bloom) i.e too conventional and obvious, so look elsewhere.

If you're working for WB, and you're 'aiming high' for casting, AND you don't go for the obvious choices, where do you go?

(1)Actors not known for playing these roles - 'Comedians'? Not Nolan and cos. style (Maybe Carrey, but NO due to BF)

'Critically acclaimed indie actors?' More like the target Nolan would want, but not as well known mainstream (e.g. Crudup)

'Award winning mainstream?' More likely, but who is there that could fit?

Dafoe? Del Toro? Matt Dillon? (Very possible) DDL? (Unlikely, but very in-demand)

One of the more crazy ideas someone had was changing the gender of Dent (I actually could see that working, but there's NO WAY anyone making the film would do that... It worked for Battlestar Galactica because the character became minor in the series as a whole, instead of the focus remaining on the character).

On the other hand, if you were to believe Jett's clues at face value, 'aiming high' refers to In The Line of Fire, and Harvey Dent will be played by Clint Eastwood, Rene Russo or John Malkovitch.:D

Its Jamie Foxx.

Jett posted a new Scattershots(his op-ed series) over on BOF a couple of days ago, and in it he said this: "Think Oscar winner, non-cracker (*wink*), who may end up as Mr. Dent."

Only three men fit this description I believe, and two of them are too old to play Harvey Dent(one DEFINITELY is, that'd be Sidney Poitier). The other is Jamie Foxx.

thats a joke bro.... can we make some logical arguments here... last time I checked Bale hasn't won anything... and don't compare Oldman to Denzel for pete's sake... he would steal the show and we don't know if that's a good thing...
