The Dark Knight Rises Depp to play the Riddler and Hoffman to be Penguin?

my point is, is that they are ACTORS not movie stars. I like some of Depps films - (Dead Man especially) but this is a lazy idea thats got nothing but the dollar inspiring it.

yea its just the studios saying it at the moment, they'll probly ring up nolan and say "hey we've just secured johnny depp and phillip seymour hoffman for your next movie" and nolan will probs be like FOOOOOK OFF!!!

I severely doubt they'd use Johnny Depp.

Plus its WAY too early to start talking about the Third film; I'm sure Chris, John and David want to take a break.

Either way Chris is going to do "The Prisoners" so I'm sure BB3 isn't even on his mind right now.

I mean jeez let the guy have a little fun with TDK first.

I call BS on this. Nolan's directly addressed the Hoffman as Penguin rumor before, and he's said he'd be a lot more thrilled to work with Hoffman than he would be to have Penguin in his movies. Pretty sure he doesn't like the character. And Depp as Riddler? It could happen, I guess. But it seems a bit too predictable to me. I'd imagine Nolan would pick someone less known.

I really could'nt imagine The Penguin in Nolans Batman at all.

Riddler at a push.

Exactly. I expect something outta left field like Ledger's announcement.

But have you ever truly hated Depp in one of his movies? Even when he was playing a filthy drug dealer flooding America with cocaine I didn't dislike him.
Do you think, if he put his mind to it, he could really make the audience despise him? The Joker is one kind of villain but The Riddler is something else entirely, an annoying and egocentric little weasel who probably doesn't have the guts to kill anyone himself. He can't see beyond his own arrogance and is constantly trying to prove himself (Which is exactly what makes him dangerous).
Could Depp play the role? I don't want him for the part but I have to say that he is so talented he could pull it off.

And probably from the UK or Australia. Much of his cast so far has been from either or the other.

Depp is popular and thats a factor but if you really think about it, Depp has always played a sympathetic lead role, his "villain" roles have always been ones were we felt sorry for his character or his character was trying to be the hero.......He's never really played a classic villain.

hahaha fatty frankie lampard!!!!!!!! stamford bridge to upton park.....stick the blue flag up your arse!!

He's without a doubt one of the best actors right now. Have you seen The Savages? Before The Devil Knows You're Dead? Capote? 25th Hour?

But no Penguin and no Riddler. And a big NO to Depp in a Nolan Batman film.

agreed 100%

Why? With the rep of TDK and Depp the third film could be even bigger than this one box office wise, just imagine all the young girls wanting to see Johnny Depp in the film. I dont like the Riddler though so perhaps give him another role.

who cares? making a smart unconventional choice is what got the dark knight where it is. no depp!

Depp is a very good actor but I get the impression that Nolan, when it comes down to it, doesn't/won't like casting actors that are too obvious or simply popular box-office wise for the villain roles compared to the Burton/Schumacher days where that's pretty much all they did (Nicholson, Michelle, Devito, Arnie, Jim Carrey, TLJ etc).

The huge success of TDK proves, amongst other things, you don't need superstars to play the villains (an idea itself that partially originated from the TV series) in order to stoke up the box-office.

yea but no one ever is in the sequel section. and to whoever is calling it fake, its not some fanboy on the internet making it up, its an actual entertainment corporation so if they are lieing they would be in for god knows how many lawsuits and what not.

that is so off base. they report rumors and crap like this all the time. thats all it is

yea i think it would be better if it wernt "high-profile" stars, all these hollywood people piss me off they live in a fantasy land where they can have anything they want yet they think lifes soo hard.

Anyway, how the hell can they make Penguin a realistic character in this series?

To be fair, just because an actor is well know it doesn't mean he should be in the series. In fact, before I knew Ledger was in it I was certain Nolan would cast Depp as The Joker.

Serious ? said:

British arms dealer who operates out of the Iceberg Lounge. Not a freak but not quite a conventional criminal. Ladies man, no top hat but a trick umbrella (The handle is actually a cane sword) and he'll give Batman information in exchange for an unspoken toleration of his petty activites.
He's a good character (Read his story in The Joker's Asylum if you don't believe me) and is one of the more realistic villains.

I dont believe any of this, but I wouldnt mind it if it were true.

Oswald should just be an arms dealer or mob boss, his soldiers refer to him as Penguin. no fish stuff, no little man syndrome, no motorised duck, no umbrellas -just James Gandolfini kicking ass.

But isn't The Penguin British? I always thought so.
Plus, Gandolfini should play Bullock.
