The Dark Knight Rises Depp to play the Riddler and Hoffman to be Penguin?

I know this is fake, but I do not want the overrated Depp as The Riddler. But that's just my opinion.

Hello everybody... imagine depp as the riddler

I like depp but I thought Hugo Weaven would be much better at it If you just watch V for vendeta thats how i want my riddler talking in tongue twisters always proving his smarter than you ever will be and soon becoming obsessed with the one guy he cant beat. Other than that I can see Depp doing it justice if this turns out to be true.

Here is what an article on Yahoo says:

"Johnny Depp is tipped to play Batman villain The Riddler in the next installment of the comic book movie series.

After the huge success of The Dark Knight, which has taken GBP220 million at the worldwide box office, producers are confident they can convince Depp to take on Christian Bale's Batman on the big screen.

And, according to the National Enquirer, studio bosses also want Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman onboard to play another of the Caped Crusader's arch-foe, the Penguin.

The Riddler was played on the small screen in the 1960s by Frank Gorshin and in 1995 movie Batman Forever by Jim Carrey. Hoffman would be stepping into the shoes of TV and movie Penguins Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito.

A source tells the Enquirer, "(Producers) are convinced that the role of the Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro. He'll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own.

And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman."

Naturally, the source is iron-clad. I mean, they've covered Batman ever since he was Batboy.

yea i know but seeing as this is the most popular forum and its probly the biggest news at the moment i thought i'd put it in here! ;)

Put it in the proper place next time.

And now we have two threads on the same thing. :o

...this kind of reminds me of a time when Heath Ledger was picked as the joker... and everybody threw a fit

but yeah this article has no basis

LOL. You do this on every thread. I suppose it has to do with your campaign thingy? :o What are you running for my friend?

I like welcoming the newbs into the forums! Alot of times they are flamed because they're new.

As for the campaign thing, the Political Forum is hosting a HYPE Presidential election to be held in early August. It's like the national election, but without all the mudslinging and dirty tactics. It's all in good fun. You should visit the PF! I don' think I've seen you in there before! :yay:

I'm sold. I want to throw you a fundraiser.

Throwing in my two cents:

My brain initially rejected the idea of Depp as the Riddler, because well he's one of the biggest names in hollywood right now, and I just dismissed it as people shouting out top dollar actors that they love.

But the more I think about it, the more I realize that Depp would probably do a really great portrayal of The Riddler. He has that suave, calm manner of speaking that the riddler is known for, and yet he can get angry when the situation demands it.

It's obvious that no one has been cast yet, and no one even knows what villains will be cast in the next movie, but I'm just saying that if Depp were to get the part, I'd be fine with it.

In my opinion the only other interesting villian that could work in Nolan's movies is the Riddler.

The casting buzz is getting a bit extreme. People are still treating these casts as if they are part of the Schumaker movies. I mean A-list stars are the ones going to be picked...?

What's funny is Depp became A list like what 5 years ago it's what happened to Robert Downey Jr. this year. I'm old enough to remember 21 Jump Street and like RDJ I remember Depp not being the most popular actor but he was always around. Movie fans always knew he was a versatile actor but once he became mainstream naturally some people start underrating him. Depp has proven to have enough range to tackle a role like the Riddler without having to ape a previous role.

I don't think most people here give the guy credit. I'd personally like to see his take and I haven't even liked his last few movies including the Pirates sequels. Also since he is mainstream now it'd be easier to ease people off the fact that Heath isn't around. They could potentially even top TDK this is Nolan and co. so I think it would help to have an actor of that talent and popularity. I guess the closest we get since he's already working with Bale is Public Enemies.

yea i think its just Warner Bros execs saying all this stuff at the moment, theres no guarentee nolan would agree with them and i think nolan and only nolan should get the final say.

Yeah I don't believe the article at all but it's funny to see this same reaction again cause some fans want Depp as the Riddler. I didn't like Heath Ledger in anything but The Patriot, Ned Kelly and Candy never saw Brokeback Mountain and this was all before he was cast. So when he got the role I was one of the few with an open mind cause I knew the guy had presence and range down pact. I had faith in him cause I didn't think Nolan would just cast anybody to play such an iconic part.

The Riddler's known for being suave? I always thought his whole thing was getting on peoples bad side by being horribly obnoxious and uppity. More like a neurotic gambling addict than a master thief.
I think that if The Riddler met the mob bosses like Joker in The Dark Knight he'd get his legs broken.

People who don't believe that Depp is a great actor that would do nothing but up BB3 are purely and utterly delusional.

Is he my first choice? No. But Johnny Depp is one of the best actors in Hollywood and that point is inarguable.

Ironically I hear that Depp may be playing The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland. So I guess we won't be seeing him as Jervis Tetch any time soon.

I agree Depp would be great with the role I never said he wouldn't. I'm just expecting another curve ball or out of left field type decision with Nolan's next casting choice because we all never saw Ledger as the choice for the Joker.

To me it seems that the executives or whomever are starting to look at it like it's another Schumaker run and they are gonna try to cast as many A-listers as possible.

There is probably nothing to this rumor, but I wouldn't be opposed to it in the least. Depp is a great actor, and on top of that, he's one of the few big name actors that could probably easily make the third movie as hyped as the second. It certainly helps that he has the talent to back up his popularity so at least if he were cast I wouldn't assume that Nolan cast him for any reason other than the fact that he was right for the part.

JOHNNY DEPP is tipped to play BATMAN villain THE RIDDLER in the next installment of the comic book movie series.

After the huge success of The Dark Knight, which has taken $440 million (GBP220 million) at the worldwide box office, producers are confident they can convince Depp to take on Christian Bale's Batman on the big screen.

A source tells the Enquirer,

Considering the original source on this one we are going to file this under the RUMOR catagory for now.
