also, any mentor/sage type character in ANY film has to be played by morgan freeman. bb and tdk prove this. i wouldn't be surprised if morgan freeman retroactively replaced mr. miyagi in the karate kid (using some form of digital manipulation, no doubt)

That's pretty much Hollywood's default casting list.

The way I see it, Sam Raimi had ruled out Venom before Spiderman III came out, but went ahead last minute and put him in anyways (even if it was done poorly), so that doesn't mean Penguin or Catwoman are out for sure.

He was pretty much forced by the studio to put Venom in, he didn't want him. I doubt WB is going to tell Nolan who should be in his movies after the success of this one.

In my opinion the only other interesting villian that could work in Nolan's movies is the Riddler.

The casting buzz is getting a bit extreme. People are still treating these casts as if they are part of the Schumaker movies. I mean A-list stars are the ones going to be picked...?

Well, Nolan did want Matt Damon for Harvey Dent and after Heath's extraordinary performance and most of the famous villains already been used, they certainly need A-list actors to sell the next movie.
