Yeah I really don't care about the details. For christ's sakes it was an hour and a half film. It was just a movie. After the train wrecks of accuracy that were the first two, I didn't care at all what the backgrounds for the characters were. I was just happy they brought the feeling.

"Wolverine killing Jean Grey" Actually ya.. that did happen in the comics
good stuff

You do make a good point bringing up Singer in your earlier post. Many of the changes were done by him, and I don't award full blame to Ratner for X3 because he came on pretty late in the game, so there was only so much he could do, but I was making the point that X3 strayed just as much from the comics as the past two movies, and I thought (well x2 at least) had a better story.

Now, for Spidey I will say this. It was not a Superman 3, or Batman Forever, it was still good, it just wasn't amazing.

And Wolverine did not kill Jean Grey in the original Pheonix saga, he tried but hesitated when Jean's real personality took over for a second and told him to kill her. Wolverine couldn't do it, and then the Pheonix took over and blasted him away.

In my opinion, no.

To have a solid trilogy, all three movies have to have a standard of quality that's pretty much equal, or close enough to eachother.

Spider-Man 3 was a huge drop in the fine standards set by the first two movies. The heart, the great character development, villains who were fleshed out etc. It was all but missing from SM-3, IMO.

It wasn't a bad movie. I did enjoy it for what it was. But, it fell extremely short of it's predecessors, and that's why it fails to make a solid trilogy, IMO.

I'd like to point out that if not only did Xavier and Cyke not die, but:

-Jean not get sidelined
-Magneto not have anything to do but add SFX and spout cliches
-The ending not be boring and suck
-Mystique and Magneto's relationship not butchered
-Rogue getting ****ed up and ruining her connection to the first two films
-Halle Berry have lines
-The Juggernaut being the most wasted villain since Bane
-Stupid jokes
And a bad ending after only 90 minutes, X3 would be considered decent.

Now as to the main question...

Did it break it? It depends. Was it a decent to good movie that didn't suck? Yes, albeit leaning towards decent. Did it live up to the first two? No.

So I'd say in the middle, but closer than any series before. However, considering that it was not a bad movie I voted yes. But it is a hallowed victory over this "curse," in some respects.

IN some ways, the curse was broken completely, and in some aspects it wasn't.

Like I said in the review thread, to be totally fair... The curse wasn't broken completely, but for the first time EVER, they managed to at least put a huge crack in it!

I really dig "3" now!!! third time around seeing it, I took it all in! The only part where it gets over the top, was with the dance! They should've just let Peter get mad and knock the **** out of bouncers... But hey, what are you gonna do!

ps. Dont ever compare Spidey 3 to X3, cause it's FAAAAAR from an X3! X3 was really bad, Spidey 3 is NOT... It's not perfect either, though.

Absolutely it broke it. Look it was gonna be hard to top no. 2, and I never expected it to. It was the best 3rd installment of any Superhero movie ever, period.

X3 was a cluster you know what. If you're going to have a main character die at least have it mean something. Xavier and Cyke died like little whimpering losers.

Harry on the other hand died like a man. His death was heroic, saving his friend and sacrificing himself. I realize Harry died in the comic as well, but my point being if your gonna kill someone off like that, let them go out like a hero. Cyke's death was such a slap in the face to the fan base it wasn't even funny.

Don't forget Angel showing up in the entire movie for about 5 seconds.

this film had no legs. it had no pacing. It had nothing for the characters to do. very disappointing.

No in all ways
this movie lacked
basic principles that are encorporated in any and all movies

Exactly, and you know what's really ironic? Whoever the kid playing Angel was, and James Marsden probably only had about 5 to 7 minutes of screentime combined, and both of their performances, were better than most of the main cast, save McKellum and Grammer.

Sheez, people complaining about emo Peter? How bout emo Wolverine? "Jean I love you, now I'm going to stab you in the chest."

Good lord, Spider-Man 3 was the best of all 3! Venom Rocks

I'd say yes. It failed to do what X3 did. Although it was a very flawed movie, I think it was pretty good, but not as good as Spider-Man 2.

uh they took that straight out of the comics

In my opinion, NO.
But surely (PLease, God!) we'll see a fourth installment, and perhaps things can get back on track.
The problems with SM3 are just so numerous...The cringe-inducing Emo Peter dance-a-thon that culminates in his "mean dance" at the jazz club. All I could think was "What th-???"
Plot holes you could drive a Mac truck through. Peter never told Mary Jane about his problem with Harry, their mutual friend?? Yeah, right! Close relationship those two have.
Where the hell did Harry's butler come from? And it just so happens he's a forenzics-trained butler, too! How convenient.
So little time spent characterizing Flint Marko, and even less on Eddie Brock. Sandman isn't called by name until the final minutes, and Venom is never named.
And how many times did Peter freakin' CRY in this movie?? I counted at least FOUR. Again, "What th-??"
Brock should have been fleshed out more in this film, and the symbiote/Venom story saved for Spidey 4.

I'm still just stunned and disbelieving at the experience I had today watching this erratic movie.
As a Spidey fan for almost 40 years, I feel almost heartbroken.

Somewhere in Hollywood, a pooch is walking bow-legged.

if anyone can break the trilogy curse, it WILL be chris nolan.
I have my doubts...

Have ANY of you people ever heard of Indiana Jones? The Prequel Star Wars films? Lord of The Rings?

There's no curse, but the 3rd is usually mediocre and I think it's the same here.
I think we're talking about COMIC BOOK MOVIE third parts, althought it isn't mentioned on the topic, because there's lots of good third parts but not any good comic book movie third parts. SM3 kinda is the first good, I dunno yet.

(I really don't count the Finnish movie Pekka ja Pätkä lumimiehen jäljillä, which is the third one in the Pekka ja Pätkä series which is based on Finnish comic book strip Pekka Puupää, because no one knows it outside Finland. It was ok. :oldrazz:)

No. It's better than the other superhero movies listed, but it was still a big disappointment.

Did SM3 break the 3rd movie curse?

Financially, yes it will.

Quality-wise, nope.

Yes. Though I never saw anything wrong with Batman forever either.

Overall I thought the movie was pretty good standing alone. I don't like it as much as Spiderman 2 but it is on the level of the first film to me. Anyway it definetely didn't kill the series like some other 3 movies do (see Jurassic Park, Batman, Superman, Jaws, the Godfather, Rocky, and countless others). As I said before I liked it more than the original. My major problem was there were some seriously corny parts (like the whole dressing emo and dancing scene) and they tried to fit way to much in. Most all of the problems derived from trying to do too much. Which isn't the worst problem a movie could have. I thought it had a lot of positives that balanced out and outweighed the negatives.

I don't know. It wasn't a bad movie and in that sense it broke the curse. It just was really disappointing compared to the first two.

Also, I'd like to point out that WOLVERINE DID NOT KILL JEAN IN THE COMICS. She (as Pheonex) actually killed herself and had Cyclops help. NOT LOGAN WHO COULDN'T DO IT.

Sorry I hate X3.

I think people just were expecting a dark epic and got a movie about three people (Peter/MJ/Harry) that switched between broad comedy and romantic drama on a dime with two villains who weren't particularly deep and probably should have been cut to one or the other (just Sandman or just Venom).

But give the dancing *****ing a break, that was one of the best parts of the movie.

I am going to put Spider-Man 3 in the same level with Fantastic Four and X-Men 3. They were all great popcorn flicks. Had lots of action and good emotional scenes too. I don't love them, but I do like the movies. I'm definitely going to get Spider-Man 3 when it comes on DVD.

Yes and then let's put the bat-credit card scene on a pedestal too, just to be consistent.

uh they took that straight out of the comics

No, no they didn't. In the original Pheonix saga, Wolverine tried to kill Jean but couldn't. Jean ended up putting herself in a position to be killed by an ailen lazer gun of sorts.
