Man, I'm already looking forward to Canary #3.

:hehe:

I can get the need for legacy in the case of some characters like Golden age Flash & Green Lantern. They do come across a bit lame and using them to prop up the Silver age versions is the best thing for them. But,I can't warm up to things like Wally taking over for Barry or getting a "different" Batgirl/Supergirl to fill the role.

Thus lies one of the problens with DC in the last 13 years. All things move on and legacy character matter; let TV and film worry about it keeping the same roles; not the comics.

So we finally have something to look forward to with Laurel finally getting a major storyline.

We've known since day one that Laurel Lance would eventualy become Black Canary, and the murder of Sara Lance kicked the door wide open to that happening. The last few episodes of Arrow have seen Laurel training to become a vigilante much to Oliver Queen dismay, and some official images were recently released giving us our first look at her suited up as the comic book superhero. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Andrew Kreisberg confirmed that we will see her in the Arrow half of the upcoming crossover with The Flash, but they're holding back the good stuff for a little further down the line. "Laurel appears in the Arrow episode. She's not as present in these episodes, but that is because we've been building up to her appearance as the Black Canary. We sort of said that Sara was the Canary, but Laurel is the Black Canary. Episodes 10, 11 and 12 are a three-part trilogy that are about her. And episode 13 I think I can spoil, is called 'Canaries.' For fans of Laurel and for fans of Katie [Cassidy], they're going to get more than their fill after the winter break." Are you guys looking forward to seeing Laurel Lance become Black Canary?

Yeah it's generic, but fun to draw. I'm drawing her right now

@mguggenheim @CBR Would that mean a #canarycry at some point of the series for Laurel?

@CBR No.

That sucks.

Seriously. If they insist on making her the Black Canary (their emphasis), why not go all the way and give her the Canary Cry? It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but still.

Laurel may be suiting up in a new Black Canary costume, but Arrow fans be warned: The novice is far from being a hero.

Driven by revenge, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) has been desperate to take up the mantle of the Black Canary following the death of her sister Sara (Caity Lotz), inching her closer and closer to fulfilling her comic book destiny—something fans of the graphic novels have been eagerly awaiting since the show’s inception. But she may be putting the cart before the horse when she finally suits up.

“Just because you put on a mask and a costume doesn’t mean you’re a superhero,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim tells EW. “A mask does not a hero make. We’re really at the beginning of Laurel’s journey to becoming the Black Canary, not the end by virtue of the fact that she’s put on a costume.”

Therefore, when Laurel does finally go out to fight crime, “It’s not like Arrow [Stephen Amell], Arsenal [Colton Haynes] or Diggle [David Ramsey] going out into the field,” he says. “She gets punched, she gets hit, she gets injured. When she throws a punch, she doesn’t always connect. When she jumps off of something, she doesn’t always land on two feet. She’s a much more rougher and realistic kind of crime fighter.”

“I’m loath to even call her a hero at this point because I don’t think she’s earned that title yet, though she certainly wants to,” Guggenheim continues. “There’s going to be a continuing process of evolution with her despite the fact that she’s now in costume.”
Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

Why not? They already have super powered heroes on the show... not like it would be a major game-changer.

Production has begun on the 13th episode of Arrow Season 3, which is written by Jake Coburn & Emilio Ortega Aldrich.

The episode is called “Canaries” and it is directed by Michael Schultz. It sounds like the episode will also feature a return appearance by Caity Lotz, likely in flashback (well she is dead after all), otherwise spirit form is my guess

I'd really like them to bring Lotz back for some flashback episodes with what happened between the Amazo sinking and her coming back to the city as Black Canary. Would be cool if they used Flashbacks of Sara's training to parallel Laurel's training.

Hoping at end of the season they bring in Lady Shiva. No ones "island" is complete before they leave Starling for a couple of months and come a "new" person.

That sucks I was hoping she would have the cry. It would make her stand out from Sara more.

To me,the Canary Cry is akin to Toad's power to spit toxic goo in X-Men. Yeah,it gives them a little something different in the tool kit,but I don't really care if they have it.
