🌎 Discussion: Civil Rights, Affirmative Action, Critical Race Theory, Systemic Inequality, and Racism - Part 4

World News
They're not going to do a press release where they say he's lying. They need his cooperation, especially if they end up trying to build a case against him.

Once again - people trying to act like they know more than the police.

"Everyone is out to frame Trump and his supporters! Fake News!!!!!!"

Honest question, do those tin foil hats ever get dirty?

Where did that poster claim Smollett broke his own ribs? One can believe he was attacked without believing his story behind it. Was even confirmed by Chicago PD that his ribs were indeed broken?

Nah, he just paid someone else to do it (sarcasm).

Saying it's a "publicity stunt" would imply either he did it to himself or that someone else did it for him - that he "orchestrated" it. Note how the poster never even rejected that interpretation of their post - if that reading was off, why wouldn't they call me out on it? "I didn't say he beat himself up." See: easy.

"The Fox star was treated for a fractured rib at Northwestern Memorial and discharged Tuesday."

'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked, rope put around his neck in suspected hate crime

Let me guess more fake news huh?

What will you claim was made up next?

OMG! Not only is the police in on it - the hospital is too!

I believe Bishop Talbert Swan said it best:

As is and always has been the case.

Some might try to say the Bishop is "over reacting" - but, nah, minorities are used to this kind of treatment always being the case.

Wow, seems like a wonderful guy. Have you read his book?

Maybe he has a point but using "wypipo" doesn't help his case much. It just fuels that fire. The equivalent of some teenager typing "Micro$oft" because they think it's witty.

His Twitter account shows plenty of hate and obnoxiousness directed at white people, particularly women and also black conservatives. Talk about "trash".

Actually no I haven't.

I do thank you for bringing it to my attention though since it changes my opinion on him. I knew he supported Kevin Hart, but not that he was that homophobic.

I would still say though the way he breaks it down on how non-minorities react to hate crimes is accurate.

Footage = "what happened before? What provoked it? Maybe something wasn't on camera that the minority did? = minority is lying and the minority is to blame."

No footage = "didn't happen without footage and the minority is lying."

It's a non-ending loop.

I disagree with his take. "What happened before?" is part of asking "What are all the facts?" which should never be considered an unreasonable question.

All of us already know you disagree with even this abbreviated version Holiday:

No footage = "didn't happen without footage and the minority is lying."

No one is surprised either.

With that im reminded of the first video of the Alton Sterling shooting which was a "modern day lynching" and then the subsequent video showing the officers pulling a loaded gun out of his pocket and the information released in the days/weeks after that he threatened a man with said gun (reason for the police call), was high on drugs, refused commands, got tased and still refused confused commands.

Some people believe cops can do no wrong just as some people believe the opposite. Okay.

Northam. :funny:

Knew there was something not-on-the-level with that guy the second he ran those idiotic "hillbilly chasing down minority kids in a pickup" ads in the campaign.

Funniest part is his "it's not me in the blackface there, I did blackface in some other event the same year, I was dressing up as Michael Jackson, totally different" maneuvering. Yeah, well, that's okay dude. Guess you can stay governor.

"During his concert Saturday night at West Hollywood's Troubadour club, Smollett told fans that he wanted to clarify that following the attack, he was bruised but his ribs were neither cracked nor broken. He also said that he went to the doctor immediately, but he wasn't hospitalized, and physicians in both Chicago and Los Angeles cleared him to perform at the concert."

That’d be the fault of news publications that were passing that aspect around as factual:

“Despite my frustrations and deep concern with certain inaccuracies and misrepresentations that have been spread, I still believe that justice will be served." - Jussie

This is why I don’t like the 24 hour news cycle.

Has this been popular lingo for a while? I feel old :funny:

Had a look on his twitter, guy seems to be making more barriers than ripping them down.

Mary Poppins branded racist by US academic in 'blackface' row over scene where she gets covered in soot.

Ah, the right-winger's bread and butter. Cherry pick some left wing academic, report it like it's front page news and apply it to an entire culture.

It's hilarious that's your default reaction.

I am right-wing because I share a story of someone making ridiculous claims? Hardly, don't pretend to know my political affiliation over one headline that's clearly rubbed you the wrong way.

Please also show me where I said anything that behaviour is indicative of the entire culture? No none of that either? I thought not?

This is merely an article I saw the headline of and thought it was hilarious. The same way I thought it was hilarious the other week I think it was one of you shared it when that "pray the gay away" preacher ended up coming out as gay after decades, showing his hypocrisy of it all. But if id shared that one I wouldn't be right-wing right?

Because getting covered in soot is somehow blackface now?

Call me cynical, but I don’t think people like that “academic” are even left wingers, and I certainly don’t think they give a hoot about blackface. To think a scene where a woman gets covered in soot somehow counts as “blackface”, you either have to be extraordinarily dense, or (more likely) trying to BS your way into getting some attention by frivolously cheapening actual serious issues for your own personal clickbaiting.

Before that Twitter quote I had never seen or heard of it before. And he definitely seems more interested in instigating arguments than having a discussion on racism. When someone uses a word like that they are not interested in having a real conversation.

It's not a new slang term at all. See it all the time.

Must be because I don't use the cesspool that is Twitter.

Liam Neeson came under fire today in the most disturbing way possible -

Liam Neeson: After a friend was raped, I wanted to kill a black man

“There’s something primal – God forbid you’ve ever had a member of your family hurt under criminal conditions,” he begins, hesitantly but thoughtfully. “I’ll tell you a story. This is true.”

It was some time ago. Neeson had just come back from overseas to find out about the rape. “She handled the situation of the rape in the most extraordinary way,” Neeson says. “But my immediate reaction was…” There’s a pause. “I asked, did she know who it was? No. What colour were they? She said it was a black person.

“I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody – I’m ashamed to say that – and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some [Neeson gestures air quotes with his fingers] ‘black b-’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could,” another pause, “kill him.”

Neeson clearly knows what he’s saying, and how shocking it is, how appalling. “It took me a week, maybe a week and a half, to go through that. She would say, ‘Where are you going?’ and I would say, ‘I’m just going out for a walk.’ You know? ‘What’s wrong?’ ‘No no, nothing’s wrong.’”

He deliberately withholds details to protect the identity of the victim. “It was horrible, horrible, when I think back, that I did that,” he says. “And I’ve never admitted that, and I’m saying it to a journalist. God forbid.”

“Holy ****,” says Tom Bateman, his co-star, who is sitting beside him.

“It’s awful,” Neeson continues, a tremble in his breath. “But I did learn a lesson from it, when I eventually thought, ‘What the **** are you doing,’ you know?”

As I said in the other thread, he made a mistake although he never acted on it and was ashamed. Pillorying him now doesn't seem productive or helpful.

His publicist is going crazy right now.

Publicist: You said you were going to kill black people.

Liam: I said I made a mistake.

Publicist: You said it was a mistake to go out looking for people to kill. You should have said it was a mistake to group all black people together like that too.

Liam: Oh...

Not to mention he likely said this at the same time people were uniting against Northam. That just makes it even more whack. It seems like twitter is more making fun of him for the randomness than attacking him.
