Disney in talks to buy Fox: X-Men Homecoming? - Part 3

There's a lot of speculation in that article, but little of actual substance.

The only interesting thing I saw in there was that Fassbender and Lawrence apparently signed lucrative one-off deals for the Dark Phoenix movie. So they don't have options to come back after that film and they might be too expensive anyway.

Also heavily slanted.

That article singles out Disney as a "safe player." Yes, like Guardians of the Galaxy was seen as a "safe" choice in 2012. Please.

Everyone wants to pat 20th Century Fox on the back these days because of Deadpool and Logan. And don't get me wrong, great films. But that happened after a lot of trial and error and they spent almost half a decade refusing to make Deadpool.

I never spoke about side deals of ownership (if that's what you mean) of assets.

See the post regarding who gets the profits might be instructive. In any case, and I'm sure you'll find some way to "speak" to how incorrect I am, the landscape has changed.

Ohhhhhh.....THAT'S VERY different. I would hypothesize that Fox and Marvel CAN work out a deal similar to the Sony/Marvel deal. "Do you have some examples?" (Your quote...not mine).

I've never blocked anybody before. Death comes for us all.....I just don't want mine to be from boredom.
Be my guest InCali. I just hope you aren't disappointed when the side deals don't pan out.

Lets see what Fiege and co can do with 17 years of X-Men rights.

Psh whatever. The concerns this article raised are of no concern to me.

Risks like X23, New Mutants, Gambit or Multiple Man might not happen under Disney? Oh nooooooo I’m so sad /sarcasm

No one wanted those movies anyways

Start with the big guns, establish them. Then get to the riskier characters.

Some of these same analysts probably thought Ant-Man was going to be Marvel's first bomb in 2015. And Guardians of the Galaxy as well.

I'm not sure why New Mutants has become this sacred cow all of the sudden? A movie that no one has even seen yet.

Let's put it this way. 20th Century Fox had the film rights to X-men a lot longer than 17 years. And fans had been talking about Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool since 2004, since Joe Quesada got him acquainted with the character after Blade Trinity.

12 years later we finally got the Deadpool movie. TWELVE YEARS.

Can't wait for Feige to set the record straight one way or another at BP press tour.

Lmao.

Yeah he''s only had GotG for 3-6 years and turned them into an A-list megahit bigger than X-men and Justice League.

New Mutants are cool but they’re doing Demon Bear already... I don’t really need a sequel, he’s pretty much as good as it gets

It is certainly going to be very interesting. Especially if the upcoming Fox movies get good reviews. It'll be unlike anything we've seen before for sure. :woot:

I never said they would. I was mostly referring to the fact that people forget that outside of the MCU stuff this is an absolutely terrible deal that will hurt the industry in the long term. ;)

Well, to be fair, SOME of the Fox movies got good reviews.

My life is already more interesting. :woo:

I doubt he will be able to say much other than that he's excited and it will be business as usual for now.

Here's an example of how false news can get circulated out of such deal announcements. Entertainment Weekly reported that Pixar was looking at Ant-Man after the Marvel Disney sale in September 2009.

Everyone wants to call Marvel safe rather than give them credit for what they've been able to do. Which as you just said, turning an obscure comic and set of heroes like Guardians of the Galaxy into a bigger movie franchise than X-Men and Justice League, who's films can't even sniff Guardians numbers at this point.

The most anyone will publicly get out of him at the moment is how excited he is for any prospects.

Guardians was definitely a big time risk. But it helps that the Marvel brand by that time had garnered so much trust from movie going audiences and it felt like something fresh and new from the other comic movies.

You don't get away with doing Guardians in you first phase, no. But a movie with that set of characters was still a calculated risk. And the fact that risk paid off I guarantee you is all the reason why Warner Bros. moved Batman v Superman away from Civil War in 2016.

Let's not forget, they both wanted that release date at first. Warner Bros. ultimately moved because they knew going to war with Marvel was bad news for them. Marvel made WB blink, and it was partially due to a talking raccoon. It's undeniable.

I remember plenty of people assuming the talking tree and talking raccoon movie was going to be their first flop.

Which was before Ant-Man was going to be the first flop and after Thor was going to be the first flop.

I wonder what their next first flop will be.

That's about the extent of what I expect him to say on any of this until regulatory approval is done. Even then, Feige tends to be the type who likes to keep things close to the vest for the most part unless it's a big slate event or announcement event.

Preach. It.

It's possible that Deadpool would have never been made had the "proof of concept" trailer not leaked.

It's only risky if it's dark and edgy.

Well if Marvel can do those, there's no reason they couldn't do Dazzler as a musical and have it be extremely successful.

McAvoy and Hoult, too.
