wait.....what's this about Rapunzel being a cousin of Elsa and Anna??!!

and I don't think Anna should develop powers.

unlike, say.....Elsa not having a Love Interest, I feel that Anna being normal is an integral part of her character.

The cousin thing is all speculation at the moment, based mostly on the Rapunzel cameo as Anna goes out the newly opened gates.
There is a ton of speculation that the Queen of Arendelle and the Queen of Corona were sisters and that Anna and Elsa's parents died while on their way to Rapunzel and Eugene's wedding (note that Tangled came out 3 years ago and after they died we got the notation "3 years later" to present day for the Coronation).
Everything seems to point towards all this, but Disney hasn't officially made it canon yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually do, it ties things together nicely and opens the way for expanding that particular Disney universe.

Eh, the character cameo thing has been going on in Disney films for years. Rapunzel isn't related to the girls.

......yeah........not sure how I'd feel about that.

I wouldn't mind a shared Princess universe, but I don't want all the girls to be related to each other......lol.

that being said, I suppose it is a plausible scenario.......but......idk.

what were the other cameos??

the only other one I know of is Belle in Hunchback.........

It's not that plausible a scenario actually. You could make the link between and two Disney films if you really want. Ie, Belle has a Cameo in Hunchback of Notre Dame which could mean she is cousins with Esmerelda.

I have a feeling it is just a cameo. Mickey, Donald and Goofy are also in The Little Mermaid if you look for them during the opera (or whatever it is) Sebastian throws at the beginning of that film. I think it's just a nudge, nudge, sort of thing for really observant viewers.

Or, maybe they will do that in future films, but eh. I do not think Disney needs to start "world-building" like the Marvel Studio films. In fact, that is kind of the antithesis of what has been the Disney model for decades up until now.

It's not canon (yet), but in the Reddit Q&A with the directors, producer, and songwriters of Frozen, there was this question:

Where were the King and Queen planning to go when they lost their lives out at sea?

Jennifer Lee (writer and co-director): A wedding.

I don't think it's hard to put two-and-two together and conclude that the King and Queen were in fact going to Rapunzel & Eugene's wedding.

yeah....I think it was just a little cameo.

plus, it's a blink and you'll miss it deal, and you only see the back of Rapunzel's head.......lol.

There's probably a website devoted to it. Off the top of my head I know Sebastian the crab makes a cameo in Aladdin, Mickey, Donald and Goofy are in Mermaid, Scar makes an appearance in Tarzan, there's a bunch more. It's nothing really new, technically all the characters are part of the Disney-verse by default the moment the film hits theatres.

Could just as easily be Ariel's could it not? Just saying, a wedding isn't anything special in Disney.

And honestly, it doesn't make a lot of sense to start. The characters by default become part of the Disney universe regardless of whether the films connect or not. Everyone knows Mickey inhabits the same world as Rapunzel, Simba, Snow White and Bambi because they're Disney creations.

Both Tangled and Frozen shared many similar traits, from their character design to their animation style. I think Disney has intended to let these two movies share the same universe from the beginning, and Rapunzel's cameo in Frozen wasn't just an accident; I think it has a deeper meaning than that.

oh.....I didn't know about the other ones......

thanks.

I also am not sure it is a good idea for the properties. The beauty of the Walt Disney Animation Studios catalogue is (in theory) each one is its own storybook type definitive adventure meant to sit on a shelf beside another. They are each supposed to have a certain weight and specialness for the eyes of children. The Marvel standard works because these are not supposed to be closed stories like say Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella. Rather, Marvel is about an open world that keeps building upon itself, but unfortunately the downside is that individual installments lose a certain amount of specialness or unique quality. While this works for a world of superheroes, I am not so convinced it is what Disney should do with their animated films.

Aladdin and The Little Mermaid were directed by the same men. Does that mean Sebastian the Crab really traveled to the Middle East when Genie summoned him about a thousand years earlier than when Mermaid takes place?

I could see Disney deciding to go that way if they think it is more profitable, but as of right now, it is just part of the studio's legacy to put in cameos for the most observant. There is nothing to go on that says otherwise.

I was about to say, I totally missed it, and I've seen it a few times....

yeah.......it's very split second and brief.

if I hadn't heard about it before hand, and seen the images online, I would've totally missed it too.

Even if Disney doesn't build on it in any way, I still like the idea of Anna, Elsa and Rapunzel being related. At least it would give an explanation as to why they look so similar to each other (some people actually complain about that :whatever:)

I think you're looking for something that isn't there. For starters, as I mentioned, the cameo thing has been going on in Disney films for decades. Second even before the switch to CG characters shared traits and animation styles, I could easily make the connection that both Ariel and Belle could be related given they share similar features with the exception of hair colour. Have you even noticed that in animation and comics the women tend to look very similar? This is actually because you can't make as many different female faces in animation as you can with males otherwise they tend to lose their attractiveness. Lastly, there isn't any real evidence to suggest there's a genuine connection between the two films. A wedding is generic thing that happens in fairy tales which is really the only connection Rapunzel and Frozen have. Rapunzel's cameo really isn't much more else than that IMO, I see nothing to suggest it's anything else.

to be fair.....that very 1st "leaked" pic of Anna's CG model did look quite a bit similar to Rapunzel........especially in terms of her facial expression.

It's actually both Rapunzel and Eugene. Here's a large pic of the cameo (click on the thumbnail)

And a side view showing Rapunzel's face...

the only question is........where's Pascal?? :o

The thing with the Anna/Rapnuzel look is that they really actually don't look that much same. The leaked CG model pic certainly did but they clearly changed the character design at some point. The biggest difference in the character design is that Rapunzel's nose is more upturned and has rounder eyes.
