So interesting thing about issue 600.

At another board I visit a poster asked who the artist/ writer team would be and I answered that it was JRJR/ Dan Slott.

The following poster quoted me and told me I was thinking too small. That posters name?

STEVE WACKER!

And yes it is really him.

What does this mean for Doc Ocks return? Maybe a different writing and artist team? Maybe more than one story? Who knows?

That is AWESOME!!! I heard they were pulling out all the stops for the 600th issue, but I had no idea it was going to be this big.

I can't wait. Thank god ASM is coming out three times a month! I couldn't imagine waiting nearly a year for this. Cheers for the heads up, Jack. This is fab news.

Hello Octophiles!

I'm in need of some very cool/awesome/plain ol' Badass shots (from the comic books) of our dear Doctor Octopus!

I thought...well, what better place to ask than the Octopus' Lair?

Any help would be much obliged!

Let me know if you'd like more.

Probably already shown, but whatever;

Any Doc Ock pic is welcome here, whether we've shown it before or not. We're always re-posting our fav pics.

And I love that cover. Bagley rules

Sweet, I'll keep it in mind next time.

It was easily more powerful than Norman and Eddie's respected film finales, I'll give you that. Also, while I disagreed with a few things I still believe Mr. Molina's portrayal of the Doctor to be the greatest (ever set into motion that is)...though Spectacular Ock is rising in the ranks pretty fast.

As much as I adore Molina's Doc Ock, I think Spectacular's is better. The reasons are obvious. Aside from being a truer version of the character to the comics, we've seen him in three of his greatest storylines from the comics. Leading the Sinister Six, being the Master Planner, and being in the thick of a gang war for control of New York's underworld.

Awesomeness.

See what I mean, Doom? Bagley's art rules all. Definitely my fav artist for drawing Doc Ock.

And don't worry, Demo, I haven't forgotten about the scans for the Goblin thread. I have a personal favourite of mine in mind...

Not at all, Doc. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in mind...

Yes, well...as great as Spectacular Ock is, I prefer Molina's Ock a little more...for silly girlie reasons that I'm ashamed of.

:facepalm

Those are made of win!

LOL! Believe me when I say we've heard this many times before. We've had several fan girls in here who also loved Molina's Doc Ock for "girlie reasons", too.

You are not alone :cwink:

Ooooh, I love these two. Never seen these before either!

Just for fun, anyone want to list their top five Doc Ock stories from the comics? Mine would be:

1. The Ock/Owl gang war, where Ock wanted to nuke New York just to prove he was the most dangerous man alive. Ock put some serious frighteners on Peter, and Black Crappy got some seriously lethal pwnage from Ock in the process. Fabulous!

2. The Return of the Sinister Six. Ock ups the ante and rounds up his old partners using blackmail, force, and manipulation, so he can hold earth to ransom. Great twist at the end regarding Ock's scheme. And he's strutting around this six issue arc in his snazzy white armani. Class.

3. The Nullifier arc in ASM #53-56. Moving in Aunt May's house as her lodger, trashing the Parker home in a battle with Spidey, putting May into hospital with a stroke, infiltrating Stark Industires with his Nullifier weapon, brain washing Spidey into being his criminal lackey. Greatness.

4. The Death of Captain Stacy. Octopus becomes so dangerous that Spidey has to resort to new tactics to try and stop him, and the results are disastrous and tragic. Classic.

5. An Obituary for Octopus. The backstory of Doc Ock is revealed at last, and interwines nicely with the modern day story being told in this issue where Ock is stealing AIDS infected blood and radioactive isotopes. Spidey suspects Ock has something really fiendish in store as usual. But is he right....?

My top five. Very hard to pick just five. So many greats that I wanted to list. Honourable mentions to the Master Planner, the Ock/Fusion arc, Negative Exposure, Countdown, and Web of Death.

Ooh, that's a good one! I'll go first.

1) Negative Exposure, tied with:
1) The Master Planner storyarc

Negative Exposure proved why he's indeed the Master Planner of Mad Scientists. His psychological manipulations of one Jeffrey Haight proves he doesn't need his tentacles to wreak havoc. All he needs is a...catalyst.

With my username, how could I not like the Master Planner arc? Otto schemes to take over the world, using henchmen to do his dirty work. Spidey gets trapped in a mountain of iron and must use all his "native resolution" to pull himself out and save his aunt! Classic.

2) Year One

The story of how Otto Octavius died and how Doctor Octopus was born, in detail. In some ways, I like it better than Unlimited #3 (sorry Joker). Young Otto's obsession with DaVinci and his Vitruvian Man as well as nuclear fusion are a nice touch.

3) Web of Death

Nowhere is the psychological dynamic between the Mastermind of Mechanical Menace and the Wallcrawler expressed more eloquently than in this arc! Also, it's got Mark Bagley drawing Otto in that white suit! 'nuff said!

4) "My Uncle, My Enemy"

For the lulz! I love lulz! There's just nothing like a sociopath who's willing to sink so low as to marry a gullible old lady under false pretenses just to get his arms (all six of them) on a nuclear reactor.

5) The first Sinister Six storyline. Parker loses his powers and must figure out how to fight his way through six of his deadliest villains, with Otto in the lead, without them! Otto suckers Aunt May into thinking he's a nice guy! (Betty's not fooled though.) Classic fun. And it's got Otto in a fishbowl!

:otto:

No particular order:
1. Countdown
2. Negative Exposure
3. Web of Death
4. the first Sinister Six story
5. The one in Sensational where he finds out Peter is Spider-Man

By the way Feather, do you consider yourself an Angelina-style or Carolyn-style Ottophile? ;) :otto:
Ottophile? ...I like that. :hehe:

I'm not really sure, as I have a thing or two in common with both of them... What would you consider the main classifications for each type to be?

I already listed my top five on the previous page but what the heck...

1. Return of the Sinister Six- This story really slated Ock's place in the big leagues and alternately made you realize how small potatoes some of Spidey's other villains were in comparison. When the team confronts Ock about the betrayal, the four of them together are unable to land a single blow...as he effortlessly stops their advances and calmly enjoys a cigarette (and first place in the Badass Olympics goes to...).

Not to mention that ridiculously wicked and humorous global get-rich-quick scheme.

2. The Owl/Black Cat- In all honesty, it's probably the most exciting comic story I've ever read. Ock was throwing out epic beatdowns and humiliation like free candy while Peter was left to silently reflect on life and love in what he thought to be his final hours. An amazing story with a great buildup to the climactic final battle.

3. The Master Planner- Another amazing story that had a combination of elements I enjoyed from the above two listed. One of the prime examples of Otto's genius and cunning (I enjoyed Peter's struggle in this one as well, very touching).

4. Year One- Like M.P., I also prefer this to the other origins. While I don't believe him to be quite as banana sandwich as portrayed here, it did have a lot of memorable lines and is the deepest look into his past and psyche to date. Also, though it doesn't seem to be everyone's cup of tea, I do enjoy Mr. Andrews' art.

5. Reign- I really, really loved the idea that Ock would have the foresight to make such plans in the event of his death. He does seem like the type of character to me that would make sure that even after he ceased to be, the world would still be greatly effected by his presence. They don't call him the Master Planner for nothing!

Was anyone else phenomenally pissed off at Spidey in that issue?

Spidey: Oh, I know! You're not just a villain but in fact a human being with feelings and must be developing a cure to save lives!
Ock: If I were would you believe me?
Spidey: Hellz no!

LOL! Can you blame him for thinking that way? Given his history with Octavius, what else was he supposed to think? When has Ock ever shown the remotest interest in curing any kind of diseases for humanity?

This is a villain who likes to poison and blow up humanity. Not cure them of AIDS lol. I thought Spidey's reaction was perfect. I'd have been surprised if he thought anything else other than Ock was up to evil again.

Spidey: "Whatever it was, with Doc Ock involved it had to be something fiendish.....right?"

Ottophile? ...I like that. :hehe:

Hmm. Actually OctoHaz is the one who first delineated the Angelina-Carolyn Spectrum of Ottophilia. I'll repost some information as soon as I find it :o

Okay, M.S. Feather, here's OctoHaz's first post on the Spectrum:

I have a theory which states that all Doc Ock fangirls can be separated into two basic categories.

Carolyn Trainer fangirls revel in Otto's big brain, his cunning, his bastardliness. We'd gleefully don the tentacles but only out of respect for His Octopusness. We want to imitate, not overshadow or supplant. We can be very jealous, but only in the sense that nobody's good enough for Octavius; we don't want to bed him ourselves.

Stunner fangirls have a hard time seeing Otto's bad side. They may acknowledge that he's no hero, but they're more likely to see him as thoughtful or caring and either ignore or disregard his selfishness or viciousness. Unlike Aunt May, they're not completely blind to what he is, but to a Stunner, the good always outweighs the bad. And oh, yes. Their feelings are definitely not platonic.

Me? I'm a Trainer fangirl. :)

Based on that, I made a little quiz for the lulz:

http://masterplanner.deviantart.com/art/Are-You-Angelina-or-Carolyn-88613850

As OctoHaz herself said, she's a Carolyn. I'm an Angelina. :word:

Can you blame him for thinking that way?

Not at all. In Web of Death Otto said (in regards to Peter's not trusting him) that if he were in Pete's shoes he would have reacted in exactly the same way.

Then again he also said that Peter was a better man than him for being able to have faith in people changing.

While he would never have a reason to trust a man he knew to be very manipulative and self serving it was rather cruel of him to taunt Ock about not having the capacity to care about something other than himself. Which is where my problem with it lay.

Spider-Man refuses to kill because he realizes that, flawed as they may be, the criminals he goes up against are people too. People who can change. Why continue sending them to prison for rehabilitation if you have no hope of them ever changing? Isn't the whole point of merciful justice ultimately redemption?

I'm really glad he second guessed himself in the end because I never want Spidey to become a character that only sees the world in black and white.

...I also think I may have just read way too much into that.

Okay, M.S. Feather, here's OctoHaz's first post on the Spectrum:

I'd have to say I'm a Carolyn then.

While at times I'm a bit of a dreamer like Angela, I don't think I could ever ignore what type of person Ock really is.

I do however admire his genius intellect and yes, even his "bastardliness" but only at a safe and very far distance (and who wouldn't want to take those tentacles for a spin!?). :woot:

And of course...fanart!
